  1. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Dude, it's kinda like throwing rice at a wedding... you toss out a little hard white thing that the groom could eat if properly prepared as they're on their way out....
  2. Re: Your PCs might be Underpowered if... Are you kidding? Have you read John Carter of Mars? You'll be king of the planet within a week, just as long as you can't actually fight on their level.
  3. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Heh - I love it. ^^ Most of my 'random generation' horror stories have to do with Heroes Unlimited, and the Understatement of the Century that happened in the included adventure (grenade + Atomic Gasoline + blockade of cop cars = big, big boom....) For some reason, I always managed to roll the most inane, insane, and useless combinations... particularly useless, like the time I rolled a mentalist who didn't have the telekinetic strength to do more than deflect a thrown grenade (see above 'my bad' moment.) and a mental projection that didn't work much behind punching distance. My favorite part - the GM had us roll stats, *and* class of powers. So you could, say, roll a Mentalist who makes Jessica Simpson look like a Rhodes Scholar....
  4. Re: Child of Mine . . . Oops - forgot to include a 'next up' - Whisper A'Daire and Moon Knight.
  5. Re: Child of Mine . . . Twilight - by day, flying energy projector with martial arts. By night, leaping/gliding brick. With his father's wings and his mother's strength, he might need solar energy to fly, but he can still get in the air and control his descent in darkness. Secret ID: Junior partner at a local law firm....
  6. Re: Your Gaming Group's Jargon Forgot one. "And Cap whispers to the Emperor...": More of a personal bit of jargon, since most people look at me weirdly when I say it. Used whenever you (and the party) are doing something that *seems* like the right thing to do, but there's a blatantly obvious bit of casting/detail work that nobody else paid attention to that says you're just as obviously on the wrong side. Referencing the idea that if you're on the other side of a fight from Captain America, You're On The Wrong Side.
  7. Re: Your Gaming Group's Jargon Squicked, "Squicking the roll": Utterly blowing the 3d6 roll, but getting a great damage result. Named for the current lead member of the Milwaukee Masks, who spent the entire first battle rolling great damage (mid-40's on 10d6!!!), but constantly missing the Big Freakin' Dragon (and VIPER agents) he was aiming at. "Halt! Or I shall whiff mightily in your general direction!": See "Squicked" - a quote from that first battle.
  8. Re: Nothing can stop me now! Another little trick, similar to the adaptation field - I designed a character once as a mental exercise that used a VPP setup to accomplish much the same thing. Any one attack would hurt, but it'd also generate a 'counter response' - fire turns Our Character into an ice-projector, that sorta thing. It made for a character who was hurt the first round, but generally invulnerable against at least one of the projector's for a little bit after that - and usually packing what said projector was vulnerable *too*, given standard "fire man has vulnerability to ice" logic. Never got a chance to use her 'in the field,' as it were, but it was reasonably effective on-paper, and forced tactical approaches (the high-SPD projectors would have to hold off until a slower partner had 'changed the polarities' on the villain before firing, that sort of thing) rather than 'hit them until they stops wiggling.'
  9. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... And don't even get me *started* on what the *media* would say about her! I hear her mom's about to get foreclosed on - can you imagine the irresponsibility of it all? (Forgive me, I'm ill... but here's a quote to make up for it!) GM: "We'll move the adventure along to the next major section once somebody gets Phelar to stop making paper dollies out of her former master's entrails." Phelar (OOC): "Good luck with that."
  10. Re: Nothing can stop me now! Really, that resistant damage reduction is the main trick. Even just 50% or so keeps your villain on his toes a good long time, the heroes can still hurt him, but if he goes down in just one turn you need a higher grade of master villain.
  11. Re: Senses in a multipower--legal build? I'd allow it... however, I'd suggest not using Telepathy. Make it a sight-based "Detect Lies" ability instead. He can see truth or deception, but he can't look at somebody and know their deepest secrets... unless that's the power you want to have him use. In which case, to get full value, he'd either be just as well off buying them individually, or he'll drop his AP limit so that the MPower is a real limitation, so....
  12. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Y'know, in some places, if you talk about getting some hot spicey tortoise, you'll end up on a registered offenders list....
  13. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Usually I see it related to phone sex, which is why I used it for the (admittedly weak) joke.
  14. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... I'd be worried that would turn from a 900 number into a 976 one....
  15. Re: The Joker Scenario Clarifying: I'd meant a teammate or DNPC as a victim (somebody the Monster or Caine had hurt/killed), not as the perp.
  16. Primarily a question for CvK'ers.... You've been tracking a vicious supervillain who's been leaving a trail of mutilated victims (not all of them dead) behind him throughout the city. On catching up with him, you stop him from finishing with his most recent victim, and chase him until you have him pinned down, at which point you find that you're chasing the infamous Monster - he has a track record of this sort of thing, and every time he's been apprehended, he's managed to escape, usually leaving a trail of bodies behind him. You've got him pinned down, and subdued (for now). There's no telling how long it'll be until recovers, but right now you've got a golden opportunity to put a permanent end to his threat. No witnesses (the rest of your team is still catching up), nobody likely to regret it aside from you... and no resistance. The Monster, for these purposes, is a magical construction; a gothic horror animated from dead flesh and infused with the essence of evil itself, utterly inhuman. Does your response change any if you find yourself facing Caine, a refugee from Dark Champions who's got the same track record the Monster does, but is actually human (in body, at least)? Does your response change if a teammate or DNPC was one of the victims? The goal here isn't a "right or wrong" answer, but rather looking at how various characters would handle an irredeemable, lethal foe who only exists for the kill - the Dark Knight scenario, if you will.
  17. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... For the player, or the character?
  18. Re: Campaign/Character Hook Mmm... I don't know about a non-super world, myself, but I'm that *that* fond of the "first super" type worlds. Particularly for this one - Professor Genome wouldn't necessarily fit in too well in that type, I don't think. Caveat - I *could* see it as a world where the babies are the first *super* heroes, but you've got Batman/Shadow/Phantom-esque 'costumed crusaders' out there too. That sort of world Professor Genome would fit just dandy into (a 'modern pulp' world), thus allowing for his developments. And it opens the possibility for conflict between the 'traditional' heroes and the supers, and for an older costumed pulp-esque hero to play mentor to the new kids on the block. Hell, *I* might try running this on HC, if I get a little more time for it... and can plot out something so it doesn't stall as badly as most of my games have.
  19. Re: Campaign/Character Hook I'd love to play in that one, I think - particularly in a game set X number of years into it. Could be a good source for a Teen Champions campaign too....
  20. Re: Most powerful psionic? Nah, most people don't worry about that too much. He doesn't want them to, so they can't.
  21. Re: Most powerful psionic? Of course, the big question is if Menton counts anymore. If we exclude Menton, it would have to be either Arvad, or possibly Luther Black and/or members of the Inner Circle, if you allow magical psychic abilities.
  22. Re: in the spirit of christmas! Dude. You're doing them gratis. You haven't promised a due date. Take. Your. Time. Relax. *headpats and hopes your personal reasons clear up soon*
  23. Re: HOW much is this lim worth Probably because he wants to add the real defense too. I'd say the Variable FX is bought separately from the limitation, myself. The limitation should probably be -1/4, more if you've got a lot of MD of course (in many of my games, half the characters come up with a reason for at least minimal extra MD).
  24. Re: WWYCD: "Dear Superhero" (Warning: Ugly situation) Void: Hire a few of his own mercs and independent supers to go and quietly take care of things. It helps to be independently wealthy to an obscene degree. He'd also bring over some of the locals, funding media appearances to bring their plight to public attention. Steele: Turn in her resignation with PRIMUS' Registration program, and then go on a 'research trip' to pay a visit. When the bad guys show up, pummel them until they go away. Rinse, repeat, call in backup when needed. Outsider: "You really don't want to attack that village. Honest! You *really* don't. You do? Let me clarify the situation. You really don't want to attack that village, because if you *do* you'll be the distraction while I evacuate it to keep Nyogtha from devouring *their* souls instead of yours. Now, care to rethink things a bit?" Guardian Angel: Would begin not-so-quietly harvesting spare parts from the bad guys when they show up. As you might gather, I rarely play characters with official ties for a *reason*.
  25. Re: Section 8 & the Ward I've got Pao Lung statted out, but I don't yet have Purifier's stats from the GM who has her. I should point out that there are some obvious... issues with the write-ups - namely, that Crusader isn't built on 350 points! Here's why. I'm currently playing Crusader (and Pao Lung, and....) over on Year of the Rat. The GM preferred the idea of giving the splinter personalities their own XP, rather than giving it to Shannon and having her boost her Multiform constantly. Also, there's currently some debate going on in my head as to whether or not the Director should be another of Shannon's personalities; thoughts?
