  1. Same thing, or at least I had the position on my short list as sometimes the friendship efforts go south Good one, Old Man!
  2. Magus University had many landmarks of historical and even artistic importance, but perhaps non loomed larger and grander than the great statues that were both over, and part of the Hall of Collaborative Magics where Amicitia-Mancy was chiefly taught! Said to be crafted to resemble the founders of the first academic studies of the art of pooling magic through a bond of friendship, they depicted the two great now passed wizards reaching in an eternal high five of power and masculine affection! Rumors of many sorts abounded about the titanic displays: * Rumor has it, it's not just the lower levels and basements that have rooms with in, that actually each statue is hollow but concealed away for who knows what nefarious or naughty purpose! * Rumor has it, the arch the two form can create a swirling vortex gate that allows students who take Amicitiamancy as their major to commute across great distances easily so they can visit other friends elsewhere and be back again. * Rumor has it, if the school is ever directedly attacked, the statues will come alive and defend it with brute force! * Rumor has it, one hapless student tried to climb to the top of the left one's head, then slipped and fell to his death screaming... but at least everyone got As that year! RIP Wilhelm Regardless of rumors, if anyone on Campus asks for directions to the Magical Collaboration department, they're quickly told: "Just head to 'The Bros', you can't miss 'em." Option Pick (Land Mark and Department building: "The Bros!" (made by the same folks who crafted the Statues of Argonath, but they got it wrong elsewhere by messing up the high five ie works of Tolkein)
  3. I'm a day behind so here's yesterday's pick... See you again in 1 and a half hours *********** "Anything else I can do for you, Dean Sparkle?" The shaved headed young man inquired earnestly. The young man was such a sweetie, Twilight Sparkle thought. Despite some truly traumatic moments in his child hood and far too many years on the run, he had a heart full of love and far preferred making friends to other means of interaction. It was one of the many reasons he was acing his courses in the department classes and their star pupil. That and his immense understanding of harmony as a concept period that he utilized for his elemental magics. He was also, she noted as she looked about at the unconscious and wounded assassins who had come after her Horn (She knew they hadn't been sent by Dean Brown, he would have wanted her flanks *Shudder*), scary as hell. Transforming back to her two legged form, she smoothed her dress, "No, I think stopping evil assassins will just about cover it. I'll have others tend to the clean up." "I don't mind helping" He moved to pick things up, "I could sweep it away with a wind if you like?" "Young man," She said gently "I have my own magics, and besides, we don't want others to feel left out or redundant." Despite his many years of world wandering, the student blushed, "Yes, ma'am. Then happy to help." He seemed to ponder "Hey, I could go shopping for my girlfriend while I'm out and about." Dean Twilght Sparkle approved, "She'd love that. It's very thoughtful." Smiling, the young student took his leave! "He's probably going to marry the girl as soon as they graduate," Sparkle chuckled to herself. Star Pupil Pick: Aang (From Avatar the Last Air Bender) (The college years)
  4. I'm a believer, and I approve this consequence
  5. Saw the latest Ant-Man & Wasp movie, liked it! Wasn't sold on MODOK but not because of the CGI, but still fun. Lots of praise to Majors and Michelle for this movie, but I have to give props to Rudd who showed some chops as 'dad who felt the sting' when his daughter clearly felt let down by him, and 'angry dad on rampage for daughter's sake' ... among others. Scott Lang in the comics is so so for me... Scott Lang in the movies? One of my favs. Didn't see that coming. Solid 7 out of 10 for me, maybe higher.
  6. Not that it helps you but sympathies, tkdguy.
  7. To say the kid was green was to put it mildly. He even dressed in the color, and looked and sounded like he fell off a turnip cart. Still, his scores on short term prophetic accuracy were off the charts, and that and his aptitude for clerical expertise was enough to make the admins drool about perhaps eventually recruiting him to serve the academic bureaucracy. That combination netted him the scholarship. That didn't stop him from looking utterly lost on campus. Clearly out of his depth away from his home farm, the poor guy ended up running errands for someone who mistook him for some kind intern. Clearly, a backbone insertion would be needed, and perhaps... just perhaps, more frequent showers. He ended up in Amicitia-Mancy as soon as they saw he had brought his own ursine friend. Boy howdy, THAT was embarrassing. Pick for Freshman: Walter Eugene O'Reilly
  8. He made Dr. Silverback . Who my players enjoy interacting with greatly
  9. Lyle Lyle Crocodile Which has some catchy music
  10. "Are all Star Elves like that? So.. reserved?" "I wouldn't know, I haven't met all Star Elves." "Funny." "Besides, our Professor of psychic information exchange and shielding class is only half star elf." "Right the ability to merge minds is creepy as hell, he could at least be a bit more..amiable. I mean, why is he in this department? "That Needs of the Many stuff..." Does a guy like that even really know what friendship is?" The two students continued to walk off away from their class. Meanwhile, hearing them quite clearly through the building window they had not considered, the professor in question looked about his office mementos and straightened a portrait of a Captain he'd once served under long ago. A younger him would have lamented their lack of reasoning and how far sound might travel while at the same time considering their views of him relatively inconsequential. It might still be logical to do so, but then, the Professor had learned decades ago that Logic, while crucial, was the beginning of wisdom, not the end of it. His magical specialty involved the sharing of thought, ideas, and memory... sometimes literally, and he made sure his students learned to use that responsibly. But if his students had actually asked him what he knew of friendship? He glanced at the Portrait again, and held up his hand in finger splayed greeting, his memory going back across the years. As he recalled the words, "You have been, and always shall be, my friend" Logic told him that friendship should terminate, naturally, when a shorter lived comrade came to the end of their cycle by age, violence, accident, or ill health. It should wither and fade. Experience? Experience had proven that hypothesis wrong. Professor Spock gave the smallest of smiles, most who did not know him would not think of it as a smile at all, stopped his salute to the painting, and straightened his wizard robes. He had another class to teach coming in soon, and the lessons would perhaps include that quantity did not trump quality. PIck: Professor Spock, teacher of Psychic Information transference and shielding, one on one rapports, and patron of the school's three dimensional chess club
  11. He also gives private lessons in classy tap dances... "Puttting on the RIIITTTZ!"
  12. The students left their first day in Consensual Interactive Imagineering class stunned. At first some had scoffed at the tacky props littered about the area. Still, a class was a class and they decided to play along with the kindly and soft spoken professor.. and suddenly they were in a kingdom of quirky characters, Kings and Catfolk, castles and trolleys. It lowered their guard to talk and add to the experience. They weren't just spectators, but citizens who could affect other citizens, to get to know them, and learn better about themselves. "That felt so damn real.." One student said "it was real, at least... the truths it revealed were" Another student corrected. "The man himself called it a Land of Make believe, but... yeah" the other said, "I think I get it." Pick: Professor Fred Rogers, who excels in classes of empathic magic, neighborhood ethics, and , of course, Make Believe.
  13. At the risk of closing off other avenues for others... I couldn't resist... *************** "Magic is often a solitary and lonely endeavor. It is easy to become reclusive, isolated, and withdrawn. Solitaries have their role in mystic society, but the true power of magic is to be found not in the one apart, but in the many united! I, myself, learned this. Before I had the mark of self knowledge, before I gathered the wings ascendant; i was sure all I needed were my books and my own thoughts. I was proud, I was young, i was... scared. Later I would grow to realize that it is collaborative magic that triumphs, group energies that flow best. Almost all other branches of Magic are enhanced by this area of study. Welcome to a course on Arcane Collaboration, of Mystic Synchronization. Group magic has many names, including Circle magic, Coven Magic, and so on... but your syllabus lists it as Amicitia-mancy! After all... " Professor Sparkle shook her glorious mane "Friendship is Magic!" Department: The Department of Magical Collaboration aka Amicitia-Mancy! Motto: "Amicitia est Magia!" Department Head: Dean Twilight Sparkle! (All grown up) Collaborative Magic is the study of ..well, Collaborative Magic, and how to use groups to make a sum that is greater than it's parts. Amicitia-mancy maybe an imperfect name, as other forms of partnership arcana beyond friendship are studied here, but Dean sparkle once ran her own school and Magus University was quite eager to snag this princess among wizardesses to teach!
  14. Maybe some of the ones you have seen do double duty? FREX: "The answer to all of the spots on the list is: The Big Lebowski'" "
  15. Toy Story as a trilogy is a good choice.. For me, the 'MOVIE THAT CHANGED MY LIFE:' category is one I had to think about. I mean, it's kind of vague. Jaws changed my life... I avoided the deep side of the swimming pool for over a year More seriously, there have been years in my life where I was caught in very deep depression and a movie helped pull me out (The Greatest Showman was much needed in that regard) So that's a change. ...and then now and then there is a wisdom in a movie I must ponder. I went with the Last Unicorn... because it's one I keep coming back to for new insights, old enjoyments. When I was young, I so understood Schmendrick's desire to be magical, to be really powerful and important. When I hit my late thirties or so, I looked back at what I had and hadn't done in my life, and I got WHY Molly Grue was so angry at the Unicorn at her timing, at her failure to live up to promises the world told us. And yet Molly still helped. Schmendrick was still an old friend, and I realized his desire for greatness didn't just arise from surrendering to magic, but helping others with their story. Older now still, I look at Haggard and Mama Fortuna as warnings... Haggard shows how one can be so desperate to relieve his own misery he inflicts on others selfishly. Mama Fortuna fascinates me.... "So that's MY immortality, eh?" For all her mockery of Schmendrick, she wants, like him, to be great. Better to be slain than forgotten and unimportant. Another warning I suppose. Lyr is faith, and idealism, and a fool and a hero and a good man... and the story shows how essential those few like him are. Some of this I knew even at a younger age academically, but I didn't understand it, didn't really grasp it, till later. The Last Unicorn, Movie and Book, has characters, small and large... that keep teaching me about the human condition, each their own lesson, each their own facet. As I am human, it often teaches me about myself too. Which is why I picked it... every now and then, I watch it again and let it change my life just a little, or at least let me think about it.
  16. 1st thought Please don't be Tennessee, please don't be Tennessee Okay, not Tennessee (for once), but still painfully stupid.
  17. New day and I already am sure that I could easily change 3 or so of my choices But I'll leave as is. Looking forward to others sharing theirs
  18. 1 PM US Eastern Time (Lucky 13 for those on 24 hour clocks)

  20. Oh but see, it's TOTALLY different because he wasn't doing it to be sexy where kids might see... or some BS like that ...
  21. Ralph seems to have a pretty versatile use of his strength, so I might allow some kind of variable advantage for his strength and any HA so at different times he could apply AE: 1 Hex , Armor Piercing, or even Autofire . He breaks through solid (video game) stone routinely so we are definitely talking superhuman. Ralph has a code vs killing, I suspect... for a 'bad guy' he rarely just punches someone. He prefers to punch some THINGS where he can cut loose. I would also consider buying him a very small amount of tunneling.. Ralph barges through obstacles like that. If you really want to get fancy, some sort of transform -'X to flattened X' might work. As to your original question, I think I'd put him at MINIMUM Strength 30 +6D6 HA. But I'd go mostly strength and make it 40 Str +4d6HA. If I brought him in a Champs standard setting where he found him facing other Bricks I'd probably just skip the HA and make him 60 str as a rookie 'hero' (And again that's not counting the Naked Variable advantage) But that's just my initial slapdash thoughts on it.
  22. I'll up one there... earlier this year I went to see "Tootsie" the broadway Musical, live. I was invited by a friend. It was, imo, better than the movie and freaking hilarious! Amazing performance by the cast. By this law's more extreme take, that might make me an accessory. I feel VERY dangerous now... wooo!
  23. Well, let's just say our figures of speech include the well known "Bless your heart" which half the time translates to 'You're so stupid that I think you could get run over by a parked car' or something similar, but also mixes in Applachianisms like 'I don't care to' which means 'Sure, I'll do it' Jokes aside, politically the state is a mess right now as the GOP Dominated State legislature goes after ANY LGBTQ+ folks it can instead of actually tackling issues that would help its citizens... for example, Drag Shows will soon be a felony it seems Yes, state Budget will be spent on enforcing this EDIT: I Should add, this bill could be used to squelch pride parades. One upcoming in Knoxville has already reported been called off for the fear of arrests.
