  1. Re: The cranky thread Well, my family has the day shift so to speak. And thanks, TKDguy. It kind of helps to know someone who has dealt with this sort of thing. I have no idea if I'm doing things right or not . Right now she seems to have settled down a bit, and I'm giving her space (Still in the same room etc) thinking it might be better to under respond than over respond.
  2. Re: The cranky thread Thanks. I apologize for railing in this thread, but it's about the only place I feel I can safely vent. I flat out had to tell grandma something to the effect of "You know I love you, right? Then trust me. I will do anything you ask that I can except let you hurt yourself." That firm declaration seemed to calm and assure her for ...fifteen minutes. I got nothing.
  3. Re: The cranky thread "No, grandma, you can't leave. You're still sick. Remember pneumonia? You still have it." "No, grandma, if you get up you'll fall." "Grandma, please stop pulling at that. Do you need a nurse?" Take above, recycle every five minutes. I do not see how professionals do it. I'm about ready to beat my head against a wall.
  4. Re: The cranky thread That's when she's coherent I suppose. We've gotten to the stage tonight where I don't know what she's saying and I'm not sure she realizes where she is. She wants to 'get up'...which I don't blame her for except she can no longer walk and even if she could, she'd disentangle IV , breathing tubes and monitoring device. She always seems less cognizant and 'here' during night time hours. During daylight she's more 'with it'. I'm not comfortable with the moments she's not but there isn't much alternative right now.
  5. Re: The cranky thread In some ways, watching my grandma tonight is worse. She's got more energy which is good BUT She talks a lot more in her sleep so I can't be sure if she's wanting something or just muttering loudly. (Not that I can throw stones about making noise as I sleep). She also pulls a lot more at the breathing apparatus and other doodads which worries me a great deal. I don't want to be a bastard and ignore her, but I don't want to be a pest either. I feel frustrated and wondering if I'm any use at all
  6. Re: The cranky thread Hell of a early morning visitor there.
  7. Re: Create a Hero Theme Team! I always lose track of these things. Very well... Name: The Four Rocketeers! Number: 4 Theme: Four superheroes, none of them with an innate power of flight, were granted rocket packs by an eccentric and grateful billionaires. Like the musketeers they draw homage from they are fun loving, fierce, and loyal to each other adhering to the old motto "Alll for one and one for all!"
  8. Re: Create a Hero Theme Team! Davis Walters was a closet neo pagan who ended up joining the United States Army. When his unit was ambushed, and many of them were badly wounded, he recalled an old spell that might allow him to save them that drew on the protective power of Mars, Eagle, and Inanna! His willingness to give his own life and lore attracted their attention it seems, for he was given great power in exchange for one task: He would become a champion of religious freedom in America. He would be allowed to keep his identity secret, but he would wear the colors of his nation, and his pagan trappings both proudly. Upon accepting, his ritual knife was empowered with many mystic properties. Now he is a sorceror soldier with a blade that can deflect bullets, sever mystic bindings, and grant him visions in its reflective metal. He calls himself American Athame!
  9. Re: The cranky thread Frankly anything that has a noose like effect and is expected to be worn tight strikes me as unwise
  10. Re: The cranky thread Spent roughly 4 and a half hours on the road, and 9 at the hospital. It's still touch and go, the nurses say she's getting better but who knows? Pneumonia at 96 is never good. I'm now at my parents place. Thanks for those who gave their support. yes, the suit is with me. Let's hope it isn't needed.
  11. Re: The cranky thread I'll be getting up in the morning to head towards another part of the state. My grandmother is ill again, and mom doesn't think she's getting better this time. I don't know, the hospital took her to the step down situation so I THOUGHT she was getting better, but my mom is a retired RN and she's there... so I'm going to trust her judgment better than my own. Yeah. I'm bringing the suit. Death wears a suit, I'm convinced of it. It's a fine suit, so black and somber it threatens to suck all the brightness out of a life. Sometimes its pull is so strong that even hope cannot escape. I barely fit in my suit sometimes. Death? He's got it easy. When you're a skeleton, almost everything fits if you just tighten the belt enough. No matter how nice my suit makes me look, Death is there wearing a better one. I hate suits. #$#$ing hate them. Of course, the logical part of mind realizes that's stupid, and maybe if I wore them for something beyond funerals I'd hate them less. Not likely. The suit I'm bringing with me is a triumph over practicality over optimism, a sign I've caved in before its even necessary. My grandma deserves the hope, but she's getting the caution. I feel like #$#$ for that. But the grim reaper? He just keeps on smiling. It maybe that my grandma will live, I'll return home, and tell myself all is well. It maybe she'll die while I'm there, and hey, I lost a grandma, but at least I have a mother#$#$ing suit. Or perhaps she'll seem to recover. I head home, and then I get the news I need to come back the very next week. Death wears a suit. Me? I feel like I'm wearing vulture feathers. I, selfish bastard that I am, hate suits. Of course, my grandma isn't the only one who could be in trouble. Apparently one of my father's sisters is also ill. Perhaps I should invite him to a suit burning party. No, damn things are too expensive. Probably one of the reasons Death grins about the whole situation. He sets the fashion and we follow even if we'll never match his dapper and smug look. I'll show him though. I haven't written a last will in testament, but I think I'll make one demand for my funeral arrangements: No suits. Folks can wear jeans, slacks, or skirts , but pull overs, the brighter and tackier the better, will be a definite request. Then Death can feel like the awkward one out. The jerk
  12. Re: Destruction of public property, and dealing with the aftermath I think the GM should let his group know from the start HOW property damage is handled in his or her setting. In my own games, there are 'handwavium' type groups, not just out of laziness, but because generations of superheroes and megathreats have been around so I figure society has good reason to have super construction companies and 'superhuman insurance' (The premiums are, admittedly, a real pain)
  13. Re: The cranky thread I read an article stating that's a typical problem with couples. As a generalization, women don't want men to FIX their problems, they want them to empathize. Men, on the other hand, feel a lot of frustration when presented with a problem they aren't allowed to fix. Women want communication about a problem, men want to SOLVE them. Again, that's a vast generalization
  14. Re: The cranky thread My problem lately is that when some of my friends and loved ones end up in trouble, meaningless platitudes are all I have to give.
  15. Re: British Heroes Well, I know some folks love the stuff they can hold in their hands, but it could always be made in PDF form only
  16. Re: British Heroes Well, given this would still be the CU, I think WW2 would probably be when superheroes would really achieve notice by the general public
  17. Re: British Heroes DT, here's a question for you and other Brits on the board. What's changed in the United Kingdom culturally, economically, and other wise that would shape the feel of a Champions game based there? The recent riots, the upcoming Olympics, and so on. I always pictured the CU as just a bit shinier and happier overall (Until some villain tears through a town or even a country; Takofanes tearing through the US was probably not a happy moment) but I wonder how otherwise the UK would respond to costumed masked individuals flying around. Would they have more or less support than in the US, etc?
  18. Re: Corporations Text Template Hmm, for some reason the post shifted from Upper case to lower, but other than that, the above should be pretty much correct. The name of the corporation was in a box header of sorts. EDIT: There we go Hope that helps you out, man
  19. Re: Corporations Text Template It went something like this. GENERIC CORPORATION NAME ABBREVIATION: PRIMARY OPERATION: PRIMARY COMPETITORS: WORTH: HQ LOCATION: HEAD: HUNTED/WATCHED: BACKGROUND/DESCRIPTION: CAMPAIGN USE: SLOGAN: OPTIONAL VERSION: SCENARIO IDEA:
  20. Re: Superhero team Leader: PC or NPC? IMO The field commander should be a player character if possible. I have worked with NPCs who are more the 'desk' jockeys or 'generals behind the lines' to good effect. Ironically though, one of my current campaigns has two active senior superhero NPCs in the game who can order the new blood around. One of my players liked the NPC heroes from the supplements and WANTED to interact/work with them so I tried to oblige for a bit. But except for rough outlines, they are being fairly hands off. Two PCs have been declared field commanders of sorts while the senior NPC heroes are off handling other things etc. Part of this IS because I want the PCs to be the stars but storywise
  21. Re: Order of the Stick "your fault..." Oh yeah, creepy stuff for stick figures
  22. Re: What CU supervillains could work on a fake superhero team? I actually thought of using GRAB way back on the old plot seeds thread for a Thunderbolts like situation... So I can see it going one step further and them actually getting redeemed
