  1. Re: The cranky thread Well, I was going to get on this thread and gripe about how my internet connection today is horrible. When it takes 30 seconds for a page to update (or more) just for a simple post you can bet more complex stuff is out. Then I notice the REAL problems others are facing in their lives, and I feel very small. And, of course, that makes me cranky as well
  2. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. Not happy news but you gotta do what you gotta do and you're upfront about it. *Tips hat* And that is a pretty awesome looking team
  3. Re: Master Villains Mirror Mirror challenge Thanks. The idea of a Teleios counterpart who goes around as a creator of origins is not new to me so it was fun to get to dust it off for this thread. Frankly, I'm tempted to use "Doc Quixotic" in the mainstream CU of my own game. After all, genetics need not be for villains alone.
  4. Re: Create a Hero Theme Team! Thrust Once a common Roadie for the band 'StormWylde!' , Herbie Franks found himself on the wrong side of a mad scientist who insisted the band play (for free) for his beloved daughter. Rather than die from the weapon, Herb found himself able to create incredible amounts of Thrust allowing superflight, and repulsive blasts guarenteed to ROCK you! Now, he's the heavy metal headbanging member of the Flock! Fortunately he's also pretty durable, as he's still not the most agile thing despite his extreme speeds.
  5. Re: Master Villains Mirror Mirror challenge The woman lay in the hospital bed unable to move. Being trapped in her own body still scared the hell out of her as nothing else could. The bullet to her neck was something she'd expected back when she was in Afghanistan, not on the streets of her Texan home town. Hell, she couldn't even remember the name of the little girl she'd leaped in front of when that cartel's bully boys went on a shooting spree across the border. She wasn't even sure why she did it. Instinct? Training? Just something stupid way down inside? The reward she'd earned was the loss of control of her own body of everything from the neck down. She muttered out loud to herself, "You'd do it again, you stupid @@@@, you know you would." "Yes, I believe you would," came a voice. Susan's eyes widened. She thought she was alone in this room. She didn't hear the door open after all. "Who's there?" "An admirer who needs your help, Sergeant," said the voice. "Yeah, I'll be a BIG help," she snorted, "I'm sorry, give me a few weeks and maybe I'll be embracing my condition with nobility and all that. I'll be the shining role model facing her disability everyone wants me to be, but right now? I just want to feel sorry for myself and cuss about how much this sucks!" "You really would do it all over again, wouldn't you?" "Yeah, but I'd try to move a bit faster and a bit more to the left when I did it," She confessed. "I thought so," and for the first time she saw her interviewer, or at least his hand. It was bearing a needle. "Hey!" She panicked. But it was too late, the needle slid into her neck. It didn't sting as much as she thought it should, "You son of a..." She started to spit, then choked in surprise. The stinging had turned into an odd tingling sensation. The sensation was going through her arms! "My arms, I think I can feel my arms!" Anger turned to joy. Christ, she thought, I'm crying! "In two hours, you'll have full use of your limbs," said the voice. Whoever he was, he was wearing a labcoat. "In five, you'll have the agility of a master gymnast and the speed of an Olympic sprinter. Twenty four hours from now, you'll be able to outrun a sports car easily. You will continue to have regenerative properties and you'll be able to project a sort of personal field or buffer to keep you from the worst, but you won't be invulnerable. Remember that. You were released from military service? I do not wish to have my gifts weaponized by any government." "Yes, yes, but how... how are you doing this? WHY are you doing this?" She managed to choke out. She managed to twist her neck. She saw a lab coat, and a handsome blond man with incredibly gentle eyes. He stepped back, as if embarrassed by being seen, "I retrieved samples of your DNA from the hospital lab tests. I studied it for compatibility, and found what powers would suit you best. Most importantly, I've learned what kind of woman you are, Sgt. You are a hero. You always were. If you stay to the right path, and I am gambling you will, you always will be. I'm just giving you better tools for the task. If you're interested... you'll find a small cardboard box hidden behind the Burger place billboard on Washington street. You know the one?" "Yes, I do..." she remembered. "Inside that box will be a costume, resistant to the stresses of your powers. Welcome to super herodom, Susan. If you want it, if you're willing. I assure you, you'll be able," The figure turned to leave. "Wait!" She called out. The lab coat clad figure paused. "Who are you?" She asked, "At least give me a name." He cleared his throat, "Just call me Teleios. It's really the name of my project more than me. It means... perfection. I know it sounds arrogant, but I really do intend it as a goal for the world and each other, not as vanity." "The world will never be perfect," Susan wiggled her fingers as she spoke. "I know," He sighed, "And MY idea of perfect would probably be someone else's nightmare, but the dream... the dream of a better world? That's something we can strive to. It's the struggle that matters, I think." "Maybe folks should call you 'Doc Quixotic'," Susan said giving a wide grin. There was a warm laugh, "I'd bear it with pride, but you think of your own superhero name, would you?" "I will," she confessed, and realized he was right. If he was serious and she got some sort of superpowers, eventually she would use them to help others. She would do it again she'd told herself. That wasn't going to change just because she could do more. "And...thank you. Do you do this a lot?" "No," he sighed, "I'm more cautious than I used to be. One of my choices went...very very wrong. Still, you aren't the first, and won't be the last. There's a burn ward patient in Chicago, a fireman, who I plan to make a similar offer to. Be well, Susan...and fight for the impossible." "I will," She repeated. And he was gone.

  15. Re: Create a Villain Theme Team! Oops... I think that's five, so: New Team: The Axis of Blood Membership: 6 Concept: While many scientists that had worked with the Axis powers of WW2 were given a chance to 'change sides' at the end of the war with records neatly expunged or forgotten, two scientists, the lovely but infamous Imperial biologist Dr. Riyoka Taksato and the mad but brillaint Eugenics expert, Dr. Botho Kortig instead simply fled to Brazil. Bound by a common hatred of the allies, and an obsession with building the 'perfect humans' they looked beyond their ethnic and cultural differences, fell in love, and began a breeding program helped along by genetic tinkering, chemical therapy, and conditioning. This 'experiment' expanded as generations of the Kortigs begat their own children/experiments taking in mates of power and few ethical restraints. Now, at last, success! This latest generation (between 18 and 30 years in age) have geniune controllable SUPER Powers of their own! They have been released on the world, supposedly to avenge themselves on the nations that defeated the Axis powers. In truth, however, some of the new "Axis of Blood" have goals of their own that look not to the past, but the future.
  16. Re: Create a Villain Theme Team! JavAneh Vazdi was NEVER a good person. She was, however, a genius. It did not take her long to realize that as a young Iranian woman from a poor family, it was best to 'go through the motions' and bide her time. She went as far through the education system as a woman could, focusing on atomic research as her country was so hungry for it it could taste it. She demured to other scientists publicaly, but secretly stole their work (and improved upon it). She feigned a strong faith, but actually worshiped nothing but her own ambition. She played her cards right until at last her big break came. An american superhero in high tech armor was captured flying through Iranian space. JavAneh was assigned on the team to study his armor, but took the oppurtunity to 'free' the superhero and return him to his armor. Feigning romantic interest and a deisre to defect, it was easy to trick the already grateful man. He took her to his lair in America where she played his loyal 'techincial support' for three years, relying not just on the hero's technology (And she soon knew far more about those sciences than he ever did) but using his own contacts to gain access to other high technologies, even that of alien invaders. When she thought she was ready, she used the rewiring she'd done to the hero's armor to turn him into a living atomic warhead and launched him at Tehran. The hero managed to detonate it early over the ocean, but that was her only failure. As both UNTIL and the hero's dearest friends came to evenge him against whatever foe had done this, an army of a thousand robots (Mimicing the looks and ablities of the hero who had saved her) engaged them, and there were so many more where that was. The UNTIL army was killed to a man, but the heroes were allowed to live so they might witness JavNeh make her own name, a name that challenged decency itself simply because it delighted her to do so. She would now and forever more be Jezebel Vile. She has no less than fourteen suits of powered armor (Each a varient in purpose and power) and more who knows how many more robots. She has claimed an island in the Persian Gulf as her domain, and has a dozen loyal and deadly women each with devices of her own either gifted or implanted within them to act as her shock troops. The other Tyrants are dangerous yes, but SHE has already claimed territory of her own, and death to the man who crosses her path.

  18. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Young Justice continues to be awesome, the last two episodes are both winners. I am also enjoying the new Green Lantern series. If the movie had portrayed Hal more in THIS light, it would have done better imo

  21. Re: Create a Villain Theme Team! Otis Oliver never thought he'd be popular as a teen, but one day all that changed. He was on a high school field trip with the chemistry club (His best subject) when a supervillain came into steal rare chemicals from the very place the studdents were visiting. Some cop wanting to play superhero fired at the villain rather than standing down, the bullet missed .. and Otis found himself bathed in a very unique mixture of highly oxidized chemicals. He woke up in the hospital only to find that his skin had turned sky blue and his hair had gone stark white. He was sure he'd be a freak forever, but then he found out the BIG bio-chemical change. It turned out people who were around him wanted to stay near him, NEEDED to. They'd do anything for the litteral touch of his hand. He now put out some natural chemical that, with skin to skin contact, caused folks to become addicted to him. He could even alter his secretions to the point where if he didn't touch someone again, they'd go through immense pain and then kill themselves unless restrained. People needed him just to live! It took awhile, but eventually, he arrogantly began to call himself Oxygen. Now, he's in his late 20s, and using his own blood as a baseline for his creations, is a very big player in the sale and production of illegal drugs. While he also has some measure of super strength and toughness, he avoids fighting superheroes directly when he can. But if he can get his hands on one of their loved ones? Well, he's got a trojan horse in the making right there.
