  1. Re: Create a Villain Theme Team! Slag-The Slag brothers, the name is stolen from the show, and it certainly seems to fit that everything else is as well; two cavemen riding around in a rock and acting like morons. But the truth is, there is no 'Rock and Gravel', they are but spawned creations of the Rock they ride around on. Back in mankind's stone age, an mineral life form fell to Earth and barely survived the experience. As it recovered, it found itself worshiped by cro-magnan, and found that hilarious. The large rock was a metamorph of sort, able to spawn offshoots and shape them to resemble even organic beings, a skill that improved with decades. It could also change its own shape to better roll along or fool folks. It once disguised itself as a monolith with hieroglyphics and a feline on top of it, instructing ancient Egyptians that they should worship cats! Hilarious! We won't even go into the stonehenge trick where nude women appeared to dirty minded druids, or the French troops that thought the Sphinx's nose was attacking them. Having Abe Lincoln appear at the top of Mount Rushmore (he was Abe's wart, Lincoln was his spawnling) and crying down to tourists, "It's okay, he missed!" was fun too. Let's just say, for a big rock, it got around a lot. Yes, the Metorite had a lot of fun on this planet. But the same old tricks and games can get dull. So it would sleep for a century now and then. Eventually, men discovered television, and the stone had to confess that was one of humanity's more imaginative creations though it too, got repetitive after a few years. Supervillains and heroes came into the world. This was just nuts, and the big living stone object just HAD to get in on that. So when it heard rumors of a team formed on the concept of one of its favorite earth shows, it showed up as a vehicle made of stone with two neanderthals riding along on top. It's main goal in the races is to beat the 'fleshy ones' to whatever the prize is that week, but it has actually grown fond of them. Secondary goal is to cause chaos. Rampaging through the car insurance office was a blast! While the public is fooled and calls it "The Slag Brothers" many of its fellow racers have figured it out, and just call it Slag. And Slag is happy with that.
  2. Re: The Powerpuff Women (or "Grown Up in Townsville") Maybe they're stuck with it. If the media and the public both insist on still calling them it, it maybe hard to escape the name. So instead it becomes another running gag. "It's the Powerpuff girls!" "We're the Power Company now!" DC Lawyers appear, shows papers regarding intellectual property. *Sigh* "We are NOT the Power Company." "It's just as well, folks kept calling our red phone complaining about their bills."
  3. Re: Conspiracy Theory: Who was really behind the destruction of Detroit? James Harmon... just not the one from this universe. It's been established he has , like many folks, multiple reality versions of him. Perhaps in one reality, a major villain* subjugated humanity because humanity was just not ready for it. Technology was too limited, science 'neglected' so when the battle did come, it was like fighting with horses and sabers against tanks. James SE (For Subjugated Earth) escaped to the main CU only to find it slightly out of time sync by a decade, but still woefully unfit for the conquest that was to come. Already maddened by grief, the escaped freedom fighter did all he could to covertly draw the interest of Doctor Destroyer and provoke him, to speed up his plans. Then from behind the scenes, he used the resulting tragedy to guide the formation of Millennium City, arguably both the highest tech city on Earth, as well as a major new muster point for superheroes. * If the villain in question was Destroyer himself, then James SE sacrificed hundreds of thousands to save billions, and hoped the heroes would stop Destroyer before he would become unstoppable on his world. If it was V'Han or an Alien invasion instead, then he went after Destroyer because, as evil as Destroyer was, forcing the likes of UNTIL, PRIMUS, and the superhero community to try to match him would better ready Earth as a whole. In the mean times, James Harmon SE has created an alternate identity where he can work behind the scenes to keep the High Tech Arms race between superheroes, Supervillains, and Organizations going. Perhaps he is even one of the leaders in ARGENT, less interested than his peers in money or science, and far more interested in making sure that THIS Earth will have the technology it needs to survive the coming storm.
  4. Re: The cranky thread Preaching to the choir. I try to be more openly chipper about it as I know my attitude can be a buzzkill for my friends, but yeah. I'm not a fan of the season (Love Jesus, Jesus was cool ... not crazy about folks killing each other on Black Friday(Thursday night) for 50% off a DVD player). I'll be heading to my family sometime tomorrow, and probably head back friday. I love my folks, but frankly I prefer to keep at three days if I can help it (This year, it can't be helped). I'm going to be very much on edge, and I'm going to miss my dogs.

  8. Re: Order of the Stick He and the characters he's made are very much missed. The good news imo is that he's had LOTS of time to plan whole arcs ahead

  10. Re: Interesting article about Sexism in Geek Communities Reminds me a little of the 80s movie "Soul Man" Where a white kid masquerades as Black in order to get a scholarship
  11. Re: Interesting article about Sexism in Geek Communities You know, I have played a female character in the game. I prefer to play male, call it a limit of my own imagination, but I didn't get hit on TOO much. I WILL say that folks seemed far more tolerant of my mistakes (And while I enjoy WoW, I am not good at it). Maybe they were just being nice because they wanted 'a chance', or maybe it was misplaced chivalry or flat out sexist bull#$#$ ("It's a man's game blah blah so of course she sucks").

  15. Re: Small Town Superhumans? Astro City is great material for any Champions game master imo
  16. Re: Small Town Superhumans? I once ran a small side trip visit for a group of superheroes in a small rural town. Happy Mill, Tennessee ... the heroes were chasing after a known supervillain team on the run. The townsfolk were somewhat secretive, but otherwise friendly, and seemed not too concerned about supervillains saying "These things have a way of working out, I'm sure." Naturally, Players being players, they were convinced they'd come into town possessed by aliens, or 'Children of the Corn now all grown up'. While they were hunting the villains, one local fellow in a folksy shirt and other apparel asked if they needed any help. They asked him questions if he's seen anything odd, any sign of the villains. He told them what he had heard and seen of them which he admited wasn't much, but he had a theory about a factory that had closed. He also made comment that the heroes had certainly made a flashy entrance in town, but the team ignored that comment and rushed to the factory. Right into a well prepared villain team. It was a hard fight, and it could have gone either way. With one hero down and one villain down, numbers were thinning when that same local appeared and asked in a worried tone if the heroes were going to be alright. Well, they told him to get the hell out of there (understandable) and sought to protect him from any friendly fire. The villains got wise to this, and when the heroes whittled down the awake villains to one, that last villain seized the local and took him as a hostage. Said local sighed, told the heroes not to worry, and then proceeded to rip the powered armor off said villain with his barehands. As most of you have already guessed before this (I'm sure) turns out "Coy" (The local) was a VERY Powerful brick. He apologized for complicating the PC's mission but admitted he was plumb curious on if they had the stuff. Their willingness to protect him in battle surely convinced him they just weren't showboaters, though he did suggest a sneakier tact next time they approached a villain hideout. Coy then invited them to the house where he and the wife would serve them up a fine meal. After securing the villains, they accepted. They asked why the heck he was the superhero of a small area like this He explained that THIS was his home, and while he didn't see as much action as most cities, he had plenty of fires to put out, meth labs to shut down, and so on. Heck, he even helped with local construction. When asked why he didn't have a codename or a costume, he admited he had one for special situations, but "While the folks here are nice, the boys would tease me something powerful if I were to go around like a circus act...meaning no offense, and I have to fish with them." Much to my delight, many adventures later when the superteam was facing a dangerous invasion of the country, they remembered Coy and asked him to suit up and help them. He did, and enjoyed it quite a lot, though he admitted the REAL trouble would be when he'd get home. His fighting an alien threat had delayed his "Honey-do" list by a week. Fun NPC for me.
  17. Re: Halloween 2012: Zombie Invasion Analyze the enemy, discover its weaknesses, get any innocents out of the undead path. Once you find the weakness, start applying it. It could be holy sites, could be arcane disruptions, could be the ole bullet to the brain. It could be necromancy applied to control and contain and ironically, that means you might have to turn to OTHER mystic villains for help-if you can trust them.
  18. Re: Interesting article about Sexism in Geek Communities What are you trying to do, end the thread with a clear headed summary?
  19. Re: Public vs. Secret Identity Yeah, that was a good point for the show's writer's to make. Not everyone wants to be a combination of celebrity/on duty cop&soldier 24/7. It's not any way to live unless you're wired for it. I recall one teen Champs game I was in, my hero got some advice from an adult hero on the importance of having a life with friends and family to keep you grounded, sane, and remind you what really mattered with the unspoken "So don't ignore your secret Identity...it'll keep you together." Possibly my favorite scene from that entire TV series.
