  4. Fortitude. Season 1. On a Norwegian Island, two kids find something interesting and take it in to their parents who try and identify it. The governor of the Island is trying to make the place more profitable by building a hotel in the glacier. A scientist who needed to write off the proposal from the governor is starting to change their mind when he is killed. Consequently a police officer comes from Britain to look into the crime as the scientist is a British national. Stanley Tucci plays the cop and was great in the part. See it for what he does if nothing else. There is one thing that really could freak you out later on.
  5. Dunkirk: Fight to the Last Man by Hugh Sebag Montefiore. This covers the British fight against the Germans when they invaded and the retreat and evacuation of the army. It also covers the aftermath and the extraction of other British troops thereafter. What is it with the Germans murdering Belgian civilians ? The massacres by German troops of British soldiers is covered. The famous halt order as well. Reasoning is given that it was not Hitler but the generals who gave the orders to halt not just once. Part of it was to do with the unexpectedly heavy resistance and counter attacks by the British and to allow the troops up catch up with the infantry. Then there is the terrain and the fact that the general wanted to go after the Allied armied south of them for which they would need all their tanks, so it was going to be left for the infantry. There is always new stuff. Like the fact that the German plans for the invasion of the Low Countries fell into the hands of the Allies due to a mistake by a German pilot and his passenger in January 1940. It raises the question of whether this was considered to be a fake and if not would the Germans alter their plans in light of the capture of the plans. One of my grandfathers was with the BEF so this is a must read book for me.
  6. My mother is home. Came home yesterday. We'll take things easy. I'll make her takes things easy. And thanks for the best wishes. Don't sweat it Cancer.
  7. Perhaps the showiest of the plagues is Royston Myles. Royston is fond of big musical numbers like 'There's no business like showbusiness' and other big barnstorming songs. However when he does burst into song it is accompanied by a thunderstorm of hail and fire. So while he won't be appearing on stage anytime soon he does go out and sing and cause all sort of havoc even death. Stormsinger is hat they calle him.
  8. They told Carl Anstruther that he would have it all. They lied. They framed him and had him sent down for fraud. He lost everything. When he got out of prison he was on the streets. and that is when he was approached again and asked if he wanted revenge on those that had wronged him. He did. So his desire was granted and he was turned into The Fleamaster. He is now able to unleash a swarm of fleas at people or dissolve into a swarm of fleas.
  9. And I get a call today that my mother has had a mild heart attack. So I get ready, rush across the capital and catch a train to Plymouth. Turns out she is alright but spending the night in the hospital. Might have been an angina attack. Still a close one.
  10. L Marcus has a tree surgeon. and a two surgeon and a one surgeon......

  12. Those of you who are observant will have noticed a distinct lack of my presence for the last week. Those of you with powerful powers of recollection will have twigged that this is the time of year that my mother is in the capital for a week. So I have been pushing her around in a wheelchair. We went onto the river as it was one of the things that she wanted to do and travelled from Parliament to Tower Bridge and back. One of the added bonuses of this was locating and seeing the memorial to the Battle of Britain pilots which is on the riverbank. Had a nice meal close to Waterloo station and visted the Anchor pub which has been on the site for over 400 years. Got a good view of Victoria street as I pushed her in the chair all the way from the station past Westminster Abbey and Parliament. We visited two of the biggest and most expensive stores in London, Harrods and Selfridges. This allowed for the purchase of Turkish delight, gluten free chocolate and candy. The latter got a return visit to allow for a lunch in the restaurant on the 5th floor (sixth to the Americans) which has a nice view over the skyline. Victoria station had an pop up ice cream shop which allowed for ice cream to be bought and consumed. The Taste of London ran on Saturday and we went there to have food and drink like octopus. As my mother had a VIP ticket she got a free glass of champagne and easier access to toilet facilities. It also allowed me to park her in one place and go backwards and forwards to get food and drink. Went to Kent to see my cousin on the Sunday and saw the Shard up close. It is huge. My cousin and family were the recipients of the gluten free chocolate and candy. They have a birds nest under the eaves where you can see baby housemartins which was nice. My mother expressed a desire to see the Queen's greengrocers Fortnum and Mason so we went there and got some small goodies. All in all it was a nice trip with just a little bit of rain.
  13. Use daleks to round them up. No compensation needed.
  14. Pariah has a method of dealing with his enemies. It involves enemas and full body cavity searches.
  15. I have the book. I remember and liked the art and the teams. So I want to see them again particularly as one was a small team and the other was a large one. Both teams had different agendas. And did things I had not seen or thought about like the woman with the high comliness/presence and how that could be translated. Then there is the relationship with the hunteds. In the Champions rulebooks one of the things mentioned came from the Strike Force campaign. One of Swashbuckler's enemies kidnapped a whole group of people and made them believe that they were Swashbuckler and then set them on him and his team. It followed the fact that first this was a large group, then a smaller group with more experience competant agent level and then almost at Swashbuckler's level. So I want to see that and how the hunteds change with time. I want to see La Panthere above all of the others. I look forward to it.
  16. As I have been off for a week I have not had the chance to contribute. So I'll take this team. The Ten Plagues This team of ten is based on the ten plagues that befell Egypt persuading Pharoah to let the Jews leave. It is upto the writers whether the people who make up the team are adherents, apostates or opponents of religion. The plagues are in order:- 1. Water into Blood 2. Frogs 3. Lice/Gnats/Fleas 4. Flies 5. Diseased livestock 6. Boils 7. Thunderstorm of hail and fire 8. Locusts 9. Darkness 10. Death of the firstborn There is the Dr Phibes version from the film the Abominable Dr Phibes Dr. Phibes takes his inspiration for the murders from the Old Testament, the Ten plagues of Egypt. The plagues described in the movie differ slightly from the Biblical account: Boils: Prof. Thornton is stung to death by bees. (Not shown, only referred to during the film) Bats: Dr. Dunwoody is mauled to death by bats. (This one is not a Biblical plague but may be related to the plague of lice or gnats.) Frogs: Dr. Hargreaves (who is not a surgeon but a psychiatrist) has his head crushed by a mechanical mask of a frog Blood: Dr. Longstreet has all the blood drained out of his body Hail: Dr. Hedgepath is frozen to death by a machine spewing ice Rats: Dr. Kitaj crashes his plane when attacked by rats. (This is not a Biblical plague but may be related to the plague of pestilence.) Beasts: Dr. Whitcombe is impaled by a brass unicorn head Locusts: Nurse Allen is eaten by locusts. Death of the first born: Phibes kidnaps and attempts to kill Dr. Vesalius's son Lem. (This is the final plague in the Biblical account.) Darkness: At the ambiguous ending of the film, Phibes drains the blood from his own body while injecting embalming fluid, apparently joining his wife in death. The one major criteria is that you have to follow the Bible order i.e. start with water into blood and end with death of the first born. They can be men or women.
