I sort of agree, as to use Blazing Saddles as an example, he spoofed the western. There is not much if any plot, and can be seen as a precursor to a lot f the spoof films today -- which is sort of like a new "genre" -- Hollywood keeps making them, why? *sigh* The only gag I did find funny was the toll booth. 
 
I also have a similar reaction to Life of Brian. I found that mostly pointless, with only the last part to make some sort of sense, and sis like the closing song to be a good bit of black humour. The rest was mostly unwatchable. 
 
I also recently watched RED and did find this as a "spoof" funny as the humour made sense along with the plot of the film. it is like if Die Hard had more humour in it, i.e. an action comedy. Plus, Helen Mirren with guns.  

Have you ever been half-asleep watching a sport on TV and in a moment of clarity realize there's not much in the way of plot or dialogue?
