  1. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat "Okay, who do you have in the Final Four of NGD posters to be banned in 2008?" NT: Obama, Clinton, and McCain walk into a bar...
  2. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Go to an Easter egg hunt dressed in an Easter Bunny costume with a hole under the tail so you can "poop" out candy and Easter eggs. "Yeah, kids, that's where your 'chocolate' really comes from!"
  3. Re: Duplication Powers and Tactics (1) You've covered most of the tactics I've used. Fr'instance, one duplicate grabs or throws, the others then pile on the attacks on Mr. Half-DCV. Or staggering actions so a number of Duplicates are acting somewhat like a single speedster. (2) Complimentary Powers: I had a character named Shuffle. He could create 3-4 duplicates that stuck around as long as he wanted, but he could also create many more on a very short-term (less than a second) basis. So he had some powers that used "duplication" as a sfx. For instance: Teleport, must cross intervening space -- though Duplication itself keeps a base form that the other forms merge back into, I had him near-instantaneously (1) create a duplicate, (2) merge his original form into the duplicate, and (3) repeat steps 1 and 2 until he's crossed a given distance. I did this as Teleport rather than, say, Running because he could stick his hand through the bars of a cell, create the duplicate on the other side, then merge into that duplicate. Autofire HtH attack -- creates many short-term (like half-phase) duplicates, each punching once then merging back in. Add Indirect, since he could do this in a ring around the target. For the Temporal Dislocation duplicator, you could justify Precognition. Actually, as a GM I'd want a reasonable in-game mechanism for why your character *doesn't* automatically know what's going to happen (since that could spoil the fun for all), like a swiss-cheesed memory ala Quantum Leap. (3) Haven't had to deal with a Duplicate death yet, and don't recall what the rules might say on it. (4) I'd want to know if they all share the same personality, or are different (and if so, in what ways). Using your Temporal Dislocation duplicator as an example, I'd wonder how the different ones get along, whether the oldest one treats the younger ones in a condescending fashion, etc. (5) I would allow a duplicator, assuming he's not going to overshadow everybody else. If the character is designed to be a 1-character team (regularly supplanting the other PCs), I'd be less likely to accept him. (6) Don't really have a favorite comic book duplicator, at least one I remember off the top of my head.
  4. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Dress in a sheep costume and visit Mightybec. Yes, I hate political ads that much. NT: Best. Political. Ad. Ever.
  5. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Saying "Ecky, ecky, ecky, ecky, p-tang, zoo-boingety." NT: Making "Monty Python" references has just been made illegal! What's a gamer to do?
  6. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat A "Foxbat for President" button. NT: The real reason Steve Long hates CLOWN so much.
  7. Re: Answers & Questions Q: What is on the tombstone of the man that created "The Hokey Pokey"? A: He has no higher brain functions. Never did, either.
  8. Re: "Neat" Pictures Check out his jet powered scooter (still a work in progress) at the end of that article, too!
  9. Re: Okay here is my soup, needs some more spices? I agree in general, but don't think that's the route to go in this specific case. The problem I have here is that this is the first time these players are playing Hero / Champions, and I wouldn't want to sour their first experience with it by having them feel humiliated and used. IMO, it's better to have them feel like they kicked butt and saved lives, but VIPER still managed to slip something under their radar, so now they need to fix that problem too. As to the other stuff, I absolutely agree on the news facts as clues (great call on that, PA).
  10. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Captain Slower-Than-A-Speeding-Bullet and his sidekick, Kid Less-Powerful-Than-A-Locomotive.
  11. Re: Okay here is my soup, needs some more spices? Echoing clsage's advice, don't make the players feel they were used. You want them to deal with the stuff at the mall, and for the plutonium theft to go through so they can follow up on that in the next adventure, right? So the mall thing has to be a for-real operation too. I like it being a two-pronged thing. Yeah, the mall thing may be mostly a distraction, but VIPER would still like the cold, hard cash. First, I'd drop the amount from a billion to an amount that the city could reasonably get together in a short amount of time. If I was the player, "one billion in three hours" would instantly tip me off that this is just a distraction. Twenty or thirty million I could see, and that's still a healthy profit for the goons in green. They'd have a team of agents nearby, monitoring cameras and some hidden microphones, ready to trigger explosives or broadcast threats to show they mean business. This also gives the heroes there someone to fight (very important IMO for a group new to HERO), and a possible way to "defuse" the whole situation. And if the broadcasts tip off the heroes in the mall that they're being watched, all the better. They'll need a clue on where to find those agents. Say the agents are in a room in a ten-story hotel overlooking the mall, and that the agent making the broadcasts is stupidly standing in such a way that the window (and mall) are visible in the background or in a mirror's reflection. So the heroes just need to figure out a way to get out of the mall unseen, over to the hotel, then figure out which room the agents are in and take 'em out. Once they've dealt with the agents, maybe the team commander knows about the other plans and lets slip that the heroes may have saved the hostages, but they can't stop the "other operation" going on at the same time. By the time they sweat the information out of him or otherwise figure it out, they arrive just after the theft has taken place. At least, that's my take on it.
  12. Re: Is Flight Slow? Your numbers are right. Of course, the car is going NC to get above 55 MPH, so both flier and car are at half CV during that combat. If he had running, you'd add in his base 6", giving him 36" running per Phase, or about 67 MPH, or around 135 MPH NC. Of course, the flying guy can cut corners and doesn't have to make all the turns, so in the end it probably evens out.
  13. Re: Storn Art from idea to Full Picture Year 5 Okay, here's a few: Needler: A dart-thrower of extraordinary precision, his costume consists of a red, green, black, and white bodysuit patterned like a stylized dartboard (not just a chest emblem, but over most of the bodysuit, maybe stretched out of proportion like a Salvador Dali clock). He has a satchel to carry some darts, a segmented belt holding more, plus wristbands and boots (thick enough to hide even more darts). He also has gloss-black wraparound goggles (high-tech look, like maybe some vision enhancement or radar inside). He has medium-length red hair, somewhat messy. Iron Cross: German super-patriot in battle armor. It looks both like German medieval armor and something high-tech. Flies by boot jets, super-strong, has ranged energy attacks from an enlarged blaster mounted atop his forearm. Considers himself displaced nobility, so if there's some way to convey that in the picture (pose or additional accoutrements), all the better. ROVer: a gadgeteer, he wears an armored vest over a padded bodysuit, with a helmet sprouting several small radio antennae and goggles covering the eyes. A half-dozen metal spheres, about 4" in diameter, orbit around his chest/waist area (front and back), each with a camera mounted over a blaster focusing lens. His ROV (Remote-Operated Vehicles) are all built as robotic dogs (flyine Airedales, tough Pit Bulls, and general-purpose Dachshunds), so maybe have one by his side with the fur partially blasted away and showing the metal workings beneath.
  14. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat 14. List four ways Jean Gray has died (or appeared to die). 14a. In each case, list the methods used to bring her back from the dead or othewise show that her "death" in each case was not real.
  15. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Well, I can't go into the details on a family-friendly discussion board... but there's a reason his eyes are flaming like that.
  16. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat Dust off the magic spell that banished him in the first place. NT: Exactly what (other than sheep) brought Mightybec back to the NGD?
  17. Re: Looking for Veteran Henchthug Ideas You could also add a couple of gadgets / foci picked up from fights with various heroes or alongside some villains, all bought as a relatively small Multipower (30-40 points) with multiple OAF and most slots having a low number of charges, some of which are recoverable. For example, two of Cat-man's throwing claws; a billyclub with swingline dropped by Thrillseeker; a set of bolos that had entangled the agent; one of Utility's wrist rockets that the agent got someone to reverse-engineer; etc.

  19. Re: Incarcerating Gadget/Focus Villains
  20. Re: Incarcerating Gadget/Focus Villains Generally, I try to avoid having a villain's focus be irreplaceable. In cases where it is, there are several options. In the past, I've had (non-incarcerated) supervillains do side businesses hiring themselves out to sneak smaller foci out of Stronghold lockup. An enterprising supervillain breaking out of Stronghold once carried off a bunch of other villains' equipment to trade back to them. Key equipment has been stolen while enroute from lockup to a top lab for study. (Not so hard to do when one of the PRIMUS researchers involved is actually in VIPER's pocket.) Some stuff has been replaced in lockup with elaborate fakes, and the heroes have no idea who did it or how it was done. (To tell the truth, in some cases I'd be hard-pressed to say how it was done myself; I was lucky and my players didn't push too hard trying to find out.)
