Wow 'ghost-angel' you are the man to have arround this place!!!

Your above review has sold me alone on buying 'Pulp Hero' core book too. I currently

have 'Thrilling Places' and just ordered last night with my copy of FH also a copy of

'Masterminds & Madmen'. I guess that means i need to also look at

'PH:Astounding Hero Tales'. Is there a review by 'ghost-angel' on that book too,

I must look to see it as well. Now are any other new books planned for PH?

  2. Hello everyone,

It is with a sad heavy heart that I must report that the company of ComStar Games that put out Traveller Hero and the New 1248 Era for the Traveller setting will be loosing it's license to write, and continue the Traveller line at all after their current license runs out (not sure when next year 2008).

You see Traveller's creator Marc Miller, has allowed Mongoose Games to have what he calls the official and only license to put out Traveller products from now on. All other Traveller license's will not be reniewed and that includes ComStar's as well. So Comstar will continue with their few inthe works and planned traveller products but that will be it. Heck these remaining products might only come out as .PDF style as many of their other Traveller works have.

For me a Die-Hard Old Time Traveller player/GM with a Traveller friendly wallet, this leaves me most unhappy. So what are we players that like spaced based stuff to do? Can we get Steve Long or Darren Watts to comment on this matter?

Also could maybe Steve/Darren open talks with ComStar Games for them maybe

to do a Hero System based line for their New Space Based Game line of Far Avolon? ComStar did a awesome job with Traveller Hero, why not get them to do a Far Avolon Hero too? It could add alot more space based stuff that could also be developed and used with Star Hero.

  3. Re: warhammer 40k Star hero

FYI for all to note about ComStar and Traveller Hero,

You know with ComStar Games loosing their license to write Traveller products (when their license runs out Marc Milller is not reissueing to anyone except MonGoose Games) then there will be no more Traveller hero products. Now ComStar games with Traveller Hero also came up with 1248 the New Era for traveller as well too. It will be sad, but they are developing a new space based campaign world called Far Avolon and I hope it is done in both their own game mechanics and hero system as well or they will be of no more use to this collective board!

  4. Re: Traveller Hero: 1249 Timeline in the Verge Subsector

    Exactly!!!

    Picture this scene:

The outbreak begins and spreads throughout a Starport. Ok a group of people band together and manage to make it to their Space ship, with only a few gotten scratched or bitten. They manage to launch and travel to the jump point and go into jump. Lets say 3 of the 7 man crew have fallen ill from their injuries. While in Jump, the three die for the 'Dead plague' or are taken over by the "Rage" and attack the rest of the crew. Now either the infected crew kill and eat the rest of the crew, and then the ship comes out of jump in a new system(destination for the ship to reach after it exits jump space). Then the ships exits jump into normal space and is adrift looking like a derelict and not responding to system hails to the ship. Next a System Defense Boat (patrol) is dispacted to the adrift derelict that appears to be undamaged and powered but no sign of life or answer to any hails. The armed patrol then sends over a armed Marine boarding party and then board the ship. Next they discover dead crew and a firefight and find a survivor and try to take him prisoner and he attacks . Someone is bitten and they kill this plagued person, but bring their injured Marine back aboard the patrol vessel and so the process starts again.

So think of the above situation starting with a bunch of ships escaping the first infection outbreak, only to spread it to a few other systems, and then a bunch of infected escaping those systems to eventually infect others and so on! It could spread extremely fast!

    Penn

First question: how did the biological plagues get off-planet? Since they both seem to reduce victims to low-functioning animals or zombies, how could an infected human operate a starship to get to other systems and allow it to spread across the sector?

I have not seen the movies in question, so please forgive me if it is supposed to be obvious.

I could see there being a "germination" period after a person is infected and before they start to show symptoms (especially if it were several days in length). That would possibly allow an infected person to get offworld and start the cycle on another planet. I could see a "cut-scene" (perhaps a recording the PCs find) in which a ship comes out of jump only to crash into a moon or something. The rescue squad finds the crew dead, except for one with very faint life signs, but he is nearly dried up. As the paramedics try to save him, he attacks. Before he is destroyed, he gets good bites in several of the rescue squad...

  5. Re: Traveller Hero: 1249 Timeline in the Verge Subsector

Now the players will be either Ex-Navy or Ex-Marines, and there will be a total of (5) PCs, (5) NPCs, and a squad of (8) Marines on their scout vessel. They will get the choice to explore one of (3) systems that are newly reached inwhich the Alninnarr have a outpost already in system. Or they can explore one of (2) systems that are yet total unknowns.

The (8) Marines are really "Red Shirts", and the (5) NPC crew are other crew that will have both a name and position, with their skills set for their specific function/position. So if one of the PCs characters are killed they have other possible crew members to assume and build as PCs.

  6. Hello everyone,

Ok as many may know I am a "Old Time" Traveller fan and am redoing my campaign and setting it once again in the Verge Subsector. Time frame is 1249 and I am making a change at least in my own campaign area of the Verge subsector.

Firstly inregards to the Virus, as it spread across space it caused great destruction as we all know. One of the super AIs it infected was a Mega Corp Bio lab research facility, that went to the extreme and infected people with the strains of the different Bio germs it was working on. It

exposed many patients and staff to a combination of two different Bio projects and the result was a disasterous plagues that spread far and

extremely fast into and across the Verge subsector.

Thus spread one plague that acts like the "Rage" from 28 Days and 28 Weeks Latter. After thus once infected with the rage, the plagued people will become extrememly vilent and attack anything living. These

infected were easy enough to dispatch, basically shoot them dead as normal works real well.

Next there is the "Dead" plague now this plague is passed on via a simple stratch or bite from a infected to a new host. Once the new victom dies, they re awaken with only primal instincts of wanting to eat and will try to eat any other living thing. They seem to feel no pain and have hightened strength plus can seem to see better in the dark. Now these plague infected will dryup if they do not keep eating fresh warm blood and meat. Their higher brain functions seem to be lost, but they seem to be able to communicate amongst themselves and work together in a manner of fashion. Also they seem to be able to take alot

of body damage, but massive damage to the brain will mostly kill them dead for good. Also massive structure damage to their bodies will cause them to loose use of body parts, but as long as the brain/head is still attached to their body they can move their limbs that are not destroyed. So if you were to hack off ones head, it's body would thrash for a while but in a few minutes would stop . The head would live on untill it runs out of fluids and energy and die in time.

It has also been noted that those that were infected with the "Rage" do not seem affected or are immune to the "Dead" plague. Thus also

those that have the "Rage" do not seem to see be able to infect them either. Both plague infected will attack one another as well.

So in my 1248 era Traveller set in the Verge Subsector, the AI Virus purged across the area, as well as did both the "Rage" and "Dead" plagues too. The destruction was extreme across space, and whole worlds were depopulated. Mostly both plagues burned themselves out in time, but they could be still out there :dyn!!!

Now I have decided to set my campaign in a system that has a culture of Humaniti that settled there in the 2nd Empire of Man, and fallen into decline and was slowly rebuilding their tech again. When the time of the Virus struct they were are Tech Level 9 on the verge of reaching TL 10. the Virus had very little effect on them and neaither of the two plagues never reached them either. So by 1248 era, they have reached TL 11 with some TL12. They use shuttle warp tech and cold sleeper to travel between star systems. Think Aliens (first movie) and Aliens II (2nd movie space ship tech). They knew about the "great war", but not the real details. They want to see what happened to everyone, not knowing what happened.

Also as a culture they unified and explored their system in great details. Their system was as follows:

    (keeping the detail simple here)

Sun : Yellow star just like our own SOL

Orbit 1: Desert world - thin atmospher with lots of minerals and

    elements - minor plant life

Orbit 2: Home world - Earths twin but only 65% water covered,

rich in minerals, elements and food resources

Orbit 3: Mars like world - but has frozen waters and some lifeforms

as well as some rare minerials and elements

Orbit 4: Large Gas Giant with (5) moons - rich in menerals and

    elements

Orbit 5: Asteroid belt - vast amounts or Iron ore and other metals

Thus the the race calling themselves the Alninnarr on their homeworld of Alnin have begun to make their first steps in the great beyond to explore space and see what happened. They have made it to the closest systems to them, but they need to fully explore them and to keep exploring.

The players will be apart of the Scout service and will be Explorers!

    Comments anyone...?

  7. Hello everyone,

I am trying to work out a new idea for a campaign world for PAH setting. I do not want to set it on Earth at all, but rather a Alien world based loosely off of Barsoom, but not exactly.

It is my plan to use Traveller Hero/Star Hero to design out the system that the planet is within, and add othere things out there to explore and be apart of the campaign. The PAH campaign will mostly be based off the one would and the planet will have two moons as well. I also want a high fantasy PAH game.

    Races will be:

Human (standard) - these came from the stars (TH/SH)

Blue/Green Humanoid - native to this planet

Mutants (Humanoids) - come from the above two races

Ape like Humanoid - slave labor race that was on this planet

in the past when the "PAH" events happened

I am planning to set the ruin in the past about 1,000 yrs or so. The tech which is still around in some cases is in some cases still working. That adds to the diverse PAH(Gamma World type) setting, and just drop some of the realisms in that regards. Better and higher tech lasts longer and etc.

I am looking for ideas from people, anyone care to give me some ideas.

  9. Re: Traveller Hero... What's Next?

You know the one drawback to ComStar Pub, the guys that brought us Traveller Hero/1248 Era, is that alot of their stuff is only out with .pdf's. I am one of those folks that do not care for PDF's but rather have Hard Copy printed versions of the books instead. I do not care that it costs more, I just want the product in a printed/professionly bound format only. I have spoken to or rather email a few of their people about my request and they have responded to me about it. They are not opossed to the idea, but I feel if we have more folks to say they would also like the resources in HC as well we might at least get a chance to get a limited HC printed copies of the PDFs.

  10. Re: Horror Hero

As tempting as that is, I live in southern New Jersey (Burlington County), and with a wife, two younger kids, and a Victorian House, plus a job that has me Oncall...I sadly can not travel up to NYC. BTW I would NEVER go into NYC, it is EVIL!!! Plus the people there have no idea how to drive, and must of gotten their drivers lience out of a cracker jack box!

I'll just have to pine away till I manage to find a copy of Horror Hero...somewhere!

  11. Re: New Mechanic: Limbs

Boy what a "tough crowd" you folks all are.....geeeehhh!!! I bow to the greater knowledge that many of you might have, but remember folks everyone has their own point of view or perspective to look at things by. Also it is a game and we are all here to have fun too.

I must say I have played the Hero's System since Champion's v2 was out(that is when I started playing) and think it is a awesome system, BUT I am NOT a expert in anyway. What I lack in Hero's System knowledge, I make up in GMing ability, style, and time tested gaming and GMing experience. SO hope I can offer a calming voice to many of these chats from time to time.

    Happy Halloween everyone!

    Booooooooooooo!!!

  12. Re: Traveller Hero - A concern

Well I have all the various previous versions of Traveller, BUT I like the new Era of 1248 the best because it ties everything together perfectly. I must say too, that I for one after playing Traveller for like 30+ yrs that the whole Virus Concept plot-line sucked. I for one wanted to 'move on' and put it behind the game, and ComStar did a awesome job!

I hope they can keep putting out Traveller Hero, or maybe start writing stuff for Star Hero too. Maybe even come up with their own unique Space Universe and write for that using the Hero System.

  13. Hello everyone,

Ok I have bought and have in my hands the four products published for Traveller Hero and they are:

    - Traveller Hero Book #1

    - Traveller Hero Book #2

Plus the New 1248 Era books that is the ComStar Traveller Era setting and their two supporting books are:

    - The New Era 1248 Sourcebook 1

    - New Era 1248 Sourcebook II

Now with the advent of Mongoose Publishing gaining the rights to put out Traveller, and it will be the only supporter of the Traveller line in the near future. It sounds like after ComStar lience runs out, it will be the end of the Traveller Hero line. Mongoose Pub has their own game system which is alot like the old Traveller d6 system. Here is the Mongoose Pub site:

    http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/news/news_item.php?pkid_news=166

So what do you guys think will happen to Traveller Hero, I feel with the four books I now have I can keep building for my Genre. Now that is why I want to see the Star Hero line grow as well too. Now I also realize that anything put out by Mongoose or anyone, can always be used as resourse ideas stuff and converted to the Hero's System but what do the rest of you think?

  14. Re: How long does tech last after The End?

My advice to you if you wanted to have some working tech still arround, simply state that prior to the PA causing event, that there were a few key tech advances that were developed and in the process of being distributed throughout standard day to day tech. Maybe such things as a Super Plastic that had a extremely high strength, maybe a metal alloy too that was harder than anything currently out there and extremely light as well as resistance to rusting. Also maybe a few other electronics break-throughs that specifically increased both electronic performance and increasing a items usable lifetime.

So not everything was built with these new resources, but those that were are seemingly still working or repairable to service. Hey remember this is a "Fantasy" based game regardless and one needs their flashy tech to play with. Man this reminds me so much of Gamma World it isn't even funny...LOL!!!

    Penn

  15. Hello everyone,

Ok as I have stated before I am converting/rebuilding my campaigns from their old systems into the Hero System. Now my former Gamma World d20 campaign, I will be converting and revamping it to the PAH Hero system.

Here is my campaign concept: (this has been played for years now)

Our world in the future, after a Nuclear/Bio War. In the past latter part of the 21st century a limited nuclear war was fought and followed by a bio war as well. About 2/3's of the worlds population was killed off, and those that remained were hardly the lucky ones. Life was extremely harse for everyone, but life went on.

So sometime at the end of the 21st century a new serum was develeoped that would alter human DNA making them resistant to many sicknesses. The serum was only given to a small amount of survivors located in the US and Cananda. The effects was that they seem to have resistance to the plagues and radiation, plus seem to grow stronger, and healthier overtime. Also children of these people tended to be extremely healthy and be superior humans in everyway with the average rating for humnas being raised above the normal levels in the past. Also it would apear that these new humans also used a higher level of usage of their brains as well too.

With this in mind these PSH (Pure Strain Humans -GSTs) started working on building a new society inwhich they built these huge domed cities to live in. After a few generations of time, these mega cities were perfect socities of peace and harmony. Now life outside the domes was just the opposite. The children of these people were at best humans, and at worst mutants. Life for them was a struggle everyday, and extremely harshe.

Now the player are all members of the population of the domes, and they have all 'selected' carriers in the Federial Enforcers Core (Federial Police). There job is to serv and protect the peace and people of the domes against all threats, internal and external. Now the players have been chosen and assigned to the Federial Interceptors Division (Federial Marshals) and they have powers to Uphold the Law in all the domed cities and in out in the waste lands as well too. (Think Judge Dread - They are THE LAAAAAW!!!)

Ok within the perfect life of the domed cities, all the domed cities are run by a single AI super computer called "Ultra Mind". It runs everything and it provides options and guidiance to the High Council (13 Councilmen, with the 13th being the Leader or High Councilmen). Now in truth it selectively trys to guide mankind for its own best interests and skus the information to help guide the council in mankinds best interests. The AI is not crazy, but it really does want what is best for mankind. It just allows mankind and the council believe that they are running the show instead of the AI Ultramind.

Well the basis of the campaign is as with everything 'human' there are always a 'few' that will complain about something. There exists a secret underground movement that thinks that life in the domes should be offered for those people in the wastelands too. The secret organization also insists that the AI UltraMind is really incharge of everything and that the High Council are just really puppets for the AI. The movement has secret cells both inside the city and support outside the city as well too. The organization is willing to do anything to further their cause and prove their points and that includes death and destruction.

So as the game starts, the secret underground movement had planned multiple terroristic attacks across New Philly Domed city. One of their attacks was to plant a bomb of sorts that would cause a surge through the system and would damage the AI UltraMind. We what happened we it went off was to cause a surge, and it was damaging systems, one of the systems it was damaging was the Penal system.

You see Ultra Mind could not allow anyone to be harmed not even criminals, so once a person was convicted they were made to stand in a special chamber , which mapped the body down to the atoms and then the subject was reduced to data and energy and stored until AI Ultramind could figure out how to take the bad out of the person. So when this power surge was cascading through the systems, UltraMind didn't have time to download and restore all of these criminals intime so it did the only thing else it could to perserv their lives. It dumped them at random into the Time Travel system and sent them back through time to different locations and points in time in the past.

So the players as Federial Interceptors were assigned to the Time Core and set up in teams of (5)s and sent back in time to 'retrieve' these criminals. The AI could only pinpoint +12/-12 hours of time when the criminial would appear but and within 100 yards of where they would appear as well too. The PCs would have to hide and try not to be discovered and bring too much attention to themselves, and capture these criminals at all costs. Also note that many of these criminals were mutants with different abilities and powers, arriving back in a modern day setting.

Also from a GM's perspective, unknown to the players when UltraMind used the penal System and atomized the criminals, it was able to capture everything except the person's soul. Those when they were atomized the being thought they were dead and passed on, but when they were brought back the body and collective life experiences were there but not the soul. In my GMs scope of things, this made these criminals 10x worse than ever before. With no more inner moral self they strickly acted to events as their previous life's experices had acted but with no moral inner self to say stop, enough, no guilt and etc. (Input PURE Evil!!!)

I also had many other sup plots and plots within plots and etc. Thus the team of PCs would have crimials to capture and then return to the future(their present) to regroup/re-equip and back into time.

    So what do you think?
