  1. Re: FTL vs. Lots of Megascale Movement

FTL is Faster the Light movement and depending on what SciFi reference show you

are looking at, it does have differences.

Star Trek FTL is Warp Speed or Trans Warp...but then they also have used others too

Star Wars uses a kinda Warp speed as well

Battlestar Galatica FTL uses a kind of Jump into hyper-space, as well as does Traveller

    as well as SG-1/SGA

B5 uses a Jump Gate system

Fold is something completely different but that was used by Robotech series..

I will leave "Megascale Movement" to someone else...

  2. Re: PAH - KV Virus - Infected designing

Hey TH...read it dude and help me out!!!:hail:

Ok to continue on with what I would like to design:

Ok as I stated I want to state that 90% of humanity will just catch the

KV Virus and die outright! Then 2% of humanity will be Immune to the

virus and can never be infected even from a bite. All players will be

members of this oh so lucky few!

Next for those that fell ill with the KV Virus but survived it two groups

    immerged:

MUTANTS: these humans fell ill with the KV Virus but managed to survive

it's affect, but their genetically altered.

    - loss of all body hair

    - skin has become thicker but rubbery(some power here)

    - slight increase to their STR

    - slight increase to their DEX

    - hyperaware /lightsleeper

    - retain their humanity and higher brain functions

    - Ultraviolet and Light sensative with blindness for eyes - disadvantage

    - Ultraviolet light is painful if exposed directly to skin - disadvantage

    - slight ability to see within darkness

NIGHT WALKERS (Invected): these humans fell ill with the KV Virus and

although they survived it, they were greatly genetically alterred

and lost their humanity. They became flesh eating monsters.

    - loss of all body hair

    - skin has become thicker but rubbery(some power here)

skin grants some damage resistance or etc

    - great increase to their STR

    - great increase to their DEX

    - greatly increased SPD

    - Flying Dodge

    - Leaping ability, running on all fours

    - Hyperaware /lightsleeper /telscopic smell

    - beserker - loss of their humanity/ pack nature

    - harden nails and sharpen enlarged teeth - weapons

    - abilty to climb and cling to things well

    - screaming sounds used to communication and cause fear in others

    - Severe Ultraviolet and Light sensative with blindness for eyes -

    disadvantage

    - Severe Ultraviolet light is painful if exposed directly to skin

and they take burning damage - disadvantage

    - See in the dark as normal as humans see in daylight

    - Carrier of the KV Virus, and their bite can infect animals that

would not normally be infected by the Airbourne Virsus

Thus is what I would like to have designed into TWO packages for

the infected of KV Virus : Mutant Package, Night Walker Package!

I need the aid of this collective body please!!!:hail:

  3. :dynHello my fellow Hero gamers,

I would like to humbly ask for some design assistance in building a "package"

for the "infected" with the KV Virus. Now let me stress I am looking for

working ideas and assistance in creating this to better design this for my

Post Apocalyse Hero campaign also set in a Traveller Hero new era 1248.

For myself I want to see and get a good feeling and understanding of how

and why you feel it should be designed what-ever way. Although I have

collected Hero System stuff, and I have read it all...sadly till reciently I

have been a d20 GM. So I am a bit rusty and not fully up to snuff on all

v5 Hero Systems stuff, and seek the "Help" of this collective to aid me

    with this design element:angst:!

GOAL: To design the KV Virus "package for the Infected" using the

Hero System v5. The KV Virus is the infection used in the current

movie of "I am Legend", where by the "infected" become genetically

altered Nightwalkers that have lost all their humanity and are total

berserking flesh eaters. I intend to use the infection on a world in

my combo PAH/TH campaign, and have the players be apart of the

2% of humanity that is immune totally to the KV Virus. I need help

in designing this using the Hero System v5. I want to design a

'package' that I can take any character and "Infect them" and then

end up with a KV Virus Infected.

BACK HISTORY for the Campaign: The people of the system know as

Grav's Reach had set up a colony on the 2nd world within that

system. This lone star system was in the Verge Subsector of the

3rd Imperium, out in deep open space. Well in 1130 after the

Rebellion was in full swing, the AI Virus spread to their colony

and crashed or shutdown most higher level computer systems

causing much of the high tech to stop working. Fortunely for the

population of Grav's Reach Prime, they were mostly self sufficiant

and survived mostly unscaved and had to fall back to more lower

technology to recover and go on with live.

So by 1248, the peoples of Grav's Reach Prime had managed to

recover much of what they had lost and managed to restore their

Tech Level (TL) to TL11/12 but still did not have sufficient star drives

that would allow them to Jump to the nearest solar system some

5-6 hexes away. Pre Rebellion they had been TL14, and only then

with Jump-6 drives could anyone even reach this system, otherwise

it was "sleeper ships" taking years to reach the system.

Well in 1248-21st day systems wide scans picked up a tumbling mass

enterring into long range scan zones. A Scout ship was dispatched,

and discovered a derelict hulk tumbling inspace and floating into the

system. The ship's systems were mostly powered down, the markings

indicated it was a Cruiser from the 3rd Imperium regular Navy. The

Scout ship docked with the derelict and a search team was sent

onboard her. It was soon discovered that all external hatches were

open to space and all the atmosphere was vented into space. All

inner hatches were also open as well too, and there were no crew

anywhere onboard her. The ship was totally powered down, and

only powered systems onboard the ship were (12) Cold Sleeper births.

So a group of ships were dispatched to recover the derelict and

bring her safely to Grav's Reach Prime - Space docks in orbit above

the world. Once docked, they swormed all over the TL 14 ship to

examine the her many systems. Now they also transported the (12)

Low Births down to planet side medical facilities and started working

on re-awakening their cryo-sleep inhabitants. The first two that

they tried to open and awaken, died from complications of prolonged

Cyro-sleep storage. The next four that they tried, did not die from

any complications but unknown to the medical staff these people

whom were still recovering from the effects of Cyro-Sleep storage

had been infected with KV Virus and all died of the virus effect with

4-6 hours of being re-awakened. Not knowing what they were dealing

with, a Strick Medical Lock-Down was in place with all the percautions

that they knew about in use.

So they continued to try to awaken the remained of the Cryo-Sleepers

and the next group of four. Three more died from prolonged Cryo-

sleep storage, and the fourth died from the onset of the KV Virus.

Finally the last two were re-awakened, and both fell ill with what the

medical staff had come to think was effects of Prolonged Cryo-sleep

storage, but these two lived. They fell into a kind of comma, and had

severe reactions to lighting as well. They were both moved to two

different isolation rooms, and allowed to sleep while doctors tried

to watch over them and figure out what was happening to them. It

was discovered that they both had some kind of a Virus in their

systems and that it was altering them at a genetic level. It was also

discovered that (5) of the other dead Cryo-sleepers also have that

same Virus as well and that is what killed them.

After about (12) hours the one former Cryo-sleeper woke up and

had lost all his hair and his skin had changed pigment plus he was

affected by bright light and Ultra Violet light (couldn't see in it and

caused him pain). He was still a little groggy, but basically otherwise

normal and told a tale of a plague virus called KV Virus that had been

spread by a killer AI in the Verge subsector, and that they had aboard

their ship and they were trying to kill it. He was one of the first to

show symptoms, and fall ill and was placed in Cryo-sleep.

Mean-while the other Cryo-sleeper some 18 hours after being awaken

from Cryo Sleep, came fully awake as one of the Kv Virus- Infected.

His first act was to leap on his doctor and nurse and killing both of

them, then when more staff tried to restrain him, he managed to

escape the Isolattion cell and the "air-bourne" KV Virus started to

spread to the unknowing people whom in the struggle unknowingly

    sadly spread the virus.

Within a week the KV Virus spread across the globe, and 90% of

humanity died within (12) hours of getting the KV Virus. Now as it

turned ok only 2% of the population was totally immune to the

KV Virus, and of the remaining 8% that fell ill with it and survived,

6% re-awekened as mutated humanoids. The other 2% became

the berserking flesh eating Night Walkers. It should be noted that

those that recovered from the virus and became the mutated

humanoids, still retained their humanity fully. The Night Walkers

(flesh eaters) would attack Normal humans, Immune humans,

mutant humans, and any anaimal that they could find to eat.

So how is this so far, I will follow with more shortly with what things I

wanted to do or have them have.

  4. Re: Post Apocalypse Hero: I am Legend

    Some more comments:

Ok he was a Lt Col in the US Army, a "Ege head Doctor" but why didn't he carry LOTS

more and better hand held weapons. There should have been all sorts of weapons about

for him to obtain and use. I would wear a double holster myself with a handgun under

each arm, with a buch of other weapons as well too stashed all over my house. I would

have carried something better than a M-16 for sure, plus a gernade launcher might

have been nice with some hand held grenades too.

Also my first reaction to seeing that dummy would have been to lob some gernades

into that openning and light that place up. To bad he didn't have a Mini-Gun as well.

I would not have fallen for that trap, knowing it had to be moved by something.

Now I feel the "infected" were far to fast, strong, and there climbing abilty was a bit

much too but it added to their creep feel. Now I can use these creatures as a

great Villian in a PAH / TH campaign.

Well it was a pretty good movie and I will also buy it once it is out on DVD!

  5. Re: Setting for a "realistic" campaign in space

I still like my first design of 2 worlds about each star, works the best!

You could also state that they have never made the leap to discover star drive tech.

Simply position your binary star system between galatic arms within the galaxy and

there isn't another near by solar system to be able to reach. Thus this would explain

why star driv tech was never seriously worked on, and why they would have focused

on doing tera-forming projects on the various different world to make those four

    different world liveable to humantity.

As to space ships, maybe you base the ships off of Traveller based smaller ships.

Thus System Defense Boats, and small merchants and etc. Make the crews like

4-5 men with maybe a robot or two with a AI computer and etc.

  6. Re: T5th give me a break

Hey I don't like the way this all went down, and I own the (4) products (2 TH, 2 New

1248 era) from Comstar , but I like all Traveller items and look at it all as resource

material for my own campaign. I don't care whom puts it out as long as it still keeps

rolling on with more stuff. I seem to collect it all, kinda like I need to have all Hero's

    stuff now too!

  8. Re: Turakian Age Q: Gunpowder?

I always like to give "gun powder" to Dwarves and call it something like

    "Breath of Mordin"

Stating that it has secret elements that defy all attemts to duplicate it

outside of the secret Dwarven temples that make it. Besides it is only

the Dwarves that have the skill to make the metal barrels strong enough

to be able to be used with it anyway as well too.

Hey you know what I discovered, I don't have a copy of:

One simply must have them ALL...!!!

  10. Re: Post Apocalypse Hero: I am Legend

    Hmmmm....

    Some comments with spoilers:

Ok as for the 'infected themselves' I did have a problem with the following with them:

    - how fast they could run

    - the fact that they could climb or hang on things they way they did

    - their sheer strength

I would have made them Normal in regards to speed and strengths, thus still making

them just as frightening. The climbing thing and hanging onto ceelings and etc, was a

bit much and I would have had purferred them to be more cunning with animal instints

and more cunning, than to be smart with them setting up that trap.

I must also say that one "infected" the aka leader type should have bought the farm

a couple of times durring that movie as well too. At least getting some injuries for his

failed efforts and etc. I guess I missed the "S" tattoo on his chest and that tattered

faded red cape flowing off his shoulders... lol!

    Just more of my thoughts!

  11. Re: Post Apocalypse Hero: I am Legend

My comments about the ending...to follow below(push button to read):

Ok when the woman and boy stopped at the end of the movie and got out of their SUV,

and walked up to that gate and then it openned...with the camera pulling back and

scanning above and away(seeing the enclosed villiage/area) did everyone get a good

look at the size and makup of those sement HUGE walls?

Oh come on, it didn't look like there were more than maybe less than 2,000 people

(and that is most likely high number) living there, and they built solid sement walls

that had to be like 40 feet tall buy maybe 10-15 feet thick at the base. That would

take a highly skilled and small army to do that, plus to make them sculpted as well.

with a catwalk at the top too. Plus that was a huge area they had enclosed as well

too, and they only had like 3+ years to have worked on all that too.

First they would have had to be organized or become organized and then get part

of those 2% of humanity to come together to work to do all that. It is a bit much

for such a short period of time.

Plus with all the infected around, how did they survive their attacks. They had to be

around and looking at how fast, strong and with their ability to climb and cling onto

objects, wouldn't they be able to just climb up and over those walls too.

Also the woman gave whomever that vile of blood, doesn't blood go bad if it is not

kept refregerated and etc. Also whom is to say that that colony has anyone left that

might be able to do anything with the blood to create a serium with it anyway. Plus

even "IF" one captured one of the infected and injected them and suffered them

the cure, one does not know if they would fully ever recover at all. Even if their

physical body recovered the ill effects of the Virus, whom is to say that their sanity

or higher brain humanity would ever be abled to be restored at all.

To me it would seem a smarter task to just kill all infected that one encounters,

because eventually they will die from lack of food, or injuries, or just grow old

and burn out. Remember that everyone got sick, but 90% just died from the virus.

Then a part of humanity was imune, and the rest were those "infected flesh eaters".

They don't reproduce and they can not infect the remaining humans so they can't

make more human infected, but can make animal infected but as always Nature

    has a way of surviving.

Just my 2 cents and thoughts to all!

    Penn

PS: I will use this Virus in my PAH/TH campaign...I like it much better than the pure

Resident Evil (T-Virus) and Dawn of the Dead (Plague).

  12. Hello everyone,

************* Spoiler Alert - If you plan to see "I am Legend" do not read****

    -

    -

    -

    ********************** Spoiler - Last Warning!!! ********************

Ok one of my friends/players and I just got back from watching "I Am Legend".

It was a pretty good movie and is most definately Post Apocalypse Hero setting!!!

So basically I like the whole "virus" concept and the "infected" were good but

I would think they should be toned down slightly. No they are not Zombies but

instead mutant humans that have due to the "Virus" have mutated physically

and become enraged, flesh craving monsters. Now I believe they were a little

to strong and will tone them down a bit when I use their plague in my PAH-TH

    campaign.

As per my view and drawing on the movie, 90% of the world population just

died outright after getting the airbourne virus (cure for cancer!!!). Now 2%

of humanity were immune to it, and the rest fell sick and survived but mutated.

Now I would then state that 2% of the total that got the virus and lived, turned

into the "infected - nightside flesh eaters" mutants. The rest that survived some

6% of the total, were also mutated but not as extreme as the other 2%. These

mutants retained their humanity and had some physical changes but did still

carry the 'Virus' within their blood...thus a kind of immunity of sorts. Animals

can be infected as well buy this Virus if bitten.

So im my campaign for Traveller, set in the Verge subsector using the New Era

of 1248...a AI from a Millitary Bio Lab, released the "virus" and spread it in

the Verge Subsector region of the 3rd Imperium. It ravaged worlds and spread

and cause ruin everywhere. It helps to form a major plot line background in

the camapign and helps to add the Horror of a PAH campaign to a TH campaign

    setting.

    .

The movie is well worth seeing!

    Penn

  13. Re: Setting for a "realistic" campaign in space

OK with a Binary star system, with a major and minor star I would advise designing

    the system as follows:

    Primary Star system

    (2) planets with atmospheres that humans can breath, make one a perfect Earth

like duplicate, and the other slightly different and requires a resperator because

of lower oxygen levels. Maybe the 2nd planet is Dune Like, Or Frozen in Ice, or

    Water world...but make it different.

    Secondary Star System

    (1) Moon around a Large gas Giant , not a perfect world but breathable atmosphere,

and the other planet is a Mars like world with a thicker atmosphere and running

water and some plant and animal life as well too.

Thus you would have (4) planets, and then the rest of the worlds (planets/moons)

might have bases and/or colonies on them. The next question is, are you using

humans and No other Intelligent Alien species. Two different races could have

developed in those different systems and etc.

    Penn

  14. Re: What is Your Favorite Item?

Hmmm Cauldron of Souls - Magic item if used with the correct magical rituals, and if one

sacrafices a virgin victum by adding their blood to the cauldron's mix and then they can

make depending on the rituals used and power expended different Undead like; Skeltons,

Zombies, Ghouls and the like. Other undead are also possible, but it all depends on the

    rituals used.
