  1. Re: Alien Stereotypes Excellent suggestion! I already have and have read Star Hero though. I'm looking for some suggestions as to those stereotypes not found in the book, or of other takes on those stereotypes. Any other Star Hero books which may prove useful?
  2. Re: Multiple constants You can have as many as you are willing to pay END for and that you can pay attention to and you GM will allow you to have. I think relatively easy limit would be the character's INT/5 per each Continuous Power. P.S.: I'm not sure if it's an official rule or not, but I rule that any Power which provides a Defense cannot stack with itself. So while you can place the same FF over you twice or more (given an INT of 10+), you only get the DEF once.
  3. Re: resist being stunned by EGO attack with EGO not CON? And Thirded. Actually, I'm hesitant to allow EGO to protect again stunning from Mental Attacks as well. Willpower can do some wonderful things, but this may not be one of them.
  4. Re: Combat Manoeuvres Illustrations While I definitely remind the players the pictures are only an example of what the maneuver might look like, I do love the idea of including pictures to represent the maneuvers. If possible, maybe include 2-4 pictures to represent different ways the maneuver may appear.
  5. Re: Instant, Constant, Persistent I'm tending to agree here. A few years ago, I would not have, and perhaps whole heartedly did not agree on the boards as I recall a similar discussion then. However, I'm starting to feel the little phrase "Instant or" in the description of Persistent is just an excuse to say the official Regen build is a legal build and server no other purpose
  6. Re: Instant, Constant, Persistent Sure, very clear. What does an EB 6d6 0 END Persistent do? How is it different from EB 6d6 0 END Continuous Persistent and EB 6d6 0 END? According to a ruling by Steve Long, previously quoted in this thread, EB 6d6 0 END Persistent is identical to EB 6d6 0 END Continuous Persistent. Does that even sound remotely right to you?
  7. Re: Instant, Constant, Persistent Seems pretty straight forward to me to. Instant Powers should not be allowed the Persistent Advantage unless they also have Continuous. You see, we have different rulings, neither of which contradict the official rules and according to Steve Long are perfectly valid. This is my confusion. We are both 100% correct even though we disagree. While this is good in some aspects, both of our interpretations cannot be official rules. There simply is no official rule here. Just an open door for house rules to fill an empty void.
  8. Re: Alien Stereotypes I love those episodes. A Piece of the Action is my favorite I think. I'm not sure if I'll actually do something like that, but I might do the alien race emulates the popular fiction of another race al-la Galaxy Quest. Great list... repped.
  9. Re: Alien Stereotypes Excellent list Outsider! However, one stereotype I'm desperately avoiding is that all aliens with appearances similar to Earth animals also have traits similar to those animals.
  10. Re: Instant, Constant, Persistent My confusion in this is perhaps making me unclear. I don't want to know when it would be advantageous, just possible or allowed. There are times when it would not be advantageous to buy nearly anything. However, for nearly everything else in Hero, it's fairly obvious as to then it is legal or not legal to apply certain Modifiers. For example, you can only apply Self Only to a Power that can normally affect both the self and others. However, there is no Power which meets the logical requirements for Persistent unless it is Constant or Continuous, yet it lists Instant as a viable option. Also, in the cases it is allowed/legal, what are the effects of its application if the Instant Power is not also Continuous/Constant? My general complaint is there are no guidelines as to what is legal, or what the effects are when it is legal. None, or at least I can't find them. Everybody's opinions and guesses are nice and my help me develop my own concerning this, but in the end they are just opinions and guesses and not actually rules.
  11. I'm putting together a Star Hero campaign universe and need a diverse array of aliens to populate it. I'm looking for all of those stereotypical stables of space opera and epic SF aliens, such as the cat people, the detached emotionless people, the machine people, the people who love archaic weapons, etc. What other stereotypes are there I may use? I'm planning on warping each to my own personal taste of course (for example, the cat people will actually be the looks like a wet cat that's been kicked in the groin people, and have a disgruntled but not quite xenophobic outlook on other races). I'm not sure how many I need at this time, any suggestions would be appreciated.
  12. Re: Rules to ignore, or replace I don't like macaroni and cheese. Macaroni and cheese is broken.
  13. Re: Instant, Constant, Persistent There are no guidelines as to when it may be applied to an Instant Power: http://herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58680
  14. Re: Instant, Constant, Persistent Nope, my interpretation is just as valid, or invalid, as anyone else's, as there is no official interpretation or guideline. Do whatever you want. The text in the rules may well have included "please insert a house rule to determine how this works" in the description of Persistent regarding Instant Powers.
  15. Re: Rules to ignore, or replace Yeah. I don't want to eliminate the categories, just change them to Limitations rather then as part of the base cost structure. That way you can accurately and fairly model any type of deflecting power or ability. After all, deflecting laser (and only lasers) should cost more in a SF game featuring lots of laser weapons than in a modern earth game where laser weapons are rare, or at least aren't as common as slug throwers.
  16. Re: Instant, Constant, Persistent I don't understand how. I'm not really looking at attack rolls, but Attack Actions (which always take a 1/2 Phase action which ends your Phase, but don't necessarily involve a roll of any kind, such as the Dodge Maneuver, or the use of Healing on oneself). Would Persistent eliminate this need to use an Attack Action in addition to just not turning off? Seems a bit of a leap to me, and nothing in the rules to indicate what can and can't make that leap.
  17. Re: How would you do this? It will definitely also require the same level of Indirect in order to affect the target where the Entangle is. Personally, I would include Linked as you can't use it without first using Entangle. Others may not as Entangle is Instant. The value of the "Only Versus Targets In [specific Entangle]" will vary with the effectiveness of the Entangle versus the average target in the campaign. For example, if the Entangle is weak and easily broken out of by most targets, the value might be placed at -1 or more. If it is strong and few targets can break out of it easily or without help, it might be worth -1/4 or less.
  18. Re: Instant, Constant, Persistent I honestly can't think of any other effect putting Persistent, but not Continuous, on an Instant Power would be, but that's exactly what putting Persistent on an Instant Power would be. Doesn't make any sense to me.
  19. Re: Can you choose not to Regenerate? Just thought I'd mention I replied to a thread about constant and persistent: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1406146&posted=1#post1406146
  20. Re: Rules to ignore, or replace These are SFX. Functionally, any given Power is identically to any identically purchased Power regardless of SFX. Thinks like how fast it moves really don't matter.
