slikmar reacted to Ragitsu in Funny Pics II: The Revenge
I protest to the above; most of the time, it is Save vs. Poison.

slikmar reacted to Christopher R Taylor in Marvel Cinematic Universe, Phase Three and BEYOOOOONND
All they had to do in the previous movies was have even one line mentioning her being interested in science or how pym particles worked. They didn't because they were relying on previous knowledge from comic books or just assuming it happens because that's how they did it in the comics. Its bad writing when you don't set up a major shift like that. Having her be the bestest evar better than Hank Pym himself and smarter than them all leaves a bad taste in people's mouths.
And having three girls suddenly show up out of nowhere as super genius uber scientists better than everybody else feels like a pretty forced pattern, as well. Yes, the comics do it too, and its lame there, as well.

Cassie Lang in the comics routinely experimented with Pym Particles. In the MCU, her father has a Master's in EE and has the genius to also understand Pym particles and the Quantum Realm. She's surrounded by some of top minds in the MCU and has been around the particles since she was 6 yrs old. Let's stop acting like its out of the question she could be a super-scientist..its quite reasonable considering her established comics background, her MCU background and the genre itself.

Don't forget, regarding Cassie, that at age 10, her father, Hope, and the Drs. Pym disappeared for 5 years. She already knew about the quantum stuff through her father being Ant Man, though not sure she had met any of the Pyms. Having said that, i could see her spending those 5 years trying to learn everything she could about Pym's research in trying to find out what happened to them.

slikmar got a reaction from Old Man in What Have You Watched Recently?
Totally agree with Old Man's review of the movie. Whiny Barry is about as annoying as idiot frat boy Thor, for different reasons.

The Flash (2023). That's right, I watched it so you don't have to! And you know, it was almost good. The underlying story featured more internal conflict than just about any other recent DC film, and Ezra Miller acts his ass off. But the first hour involves Ezra Miller playing a whiny frat boy version of Ezra Miller and that's... a lot. I spent much of the movie wondering if Grant Gustin wouldn't have been a better choice as the smart but underappreciated JL member. It wasn't predictable, the action sequences were well directed, and there weren't any glaring plot holes (for a film that involves both time travel and multiverses). I even liked Zod in this one. There was color! The effects were off the charts; every penny of the effects budget wound up on the screen, and legions of CGI animators must have been sacrificed in the making of the movie. And of course there were all the multiverse versions of various JL members to check the fanservice box.
Best of all I get HBO Max (just "Max" now in a stupendously boneheaded branding move) for $1/month through my cell provider, so Zaslav didn't make a penny off of me. Movie is three hours long but you could probably skip from where Barry meets Barry up until they meet Bruce Wayne, and it would save you maybe 45 minutes. One meaningless very-end-of-credits scene.

slikmar got a reaction from assault in General Sports Thread
Finally got to finish watching. Boy was this a game of quantity over quality (I have seen many games go the opposite). Yes Collingwood had 90 points, but they were 12 goals and 18 behinds (which while watching the announcers call misses) where Brisbane, who have some amazing forwards (Cameron, who I watched play half a grand final 3-5 years ago after having his arm caught between his and an opponents body and bent backward, no idea how wasn't dislocated, Joe Daniher, Eric Hipwood (who seemed to disappear for most of this game, probably a result of Magpie defense which can be smothering) scored 13 goals and 8 behinds. so 30 scores for the Magpies and 21 for Brisbane. Whole game was close and enjoyable to watch.

Aussie Rules has an American competition that has been going for about 20 years if not more. With American Mason Cox winning his first grand final, it gives the AFL a good opportunity to market it to American audiences and broaden its appeal.

slikmar reacted to unclevlad in MLB 2023
Calloo, callay, o frabjous day!!!
The Yankees have been eliminated. MLB doesn't say so, but they don't project. The series that matters now is Astros-Mariners, who play 3. Astros win one, OR Mariners win 2...Yankees are out. One of those must happen.
Lovely day indeed.
