  1. Skills. Skills. Skills. Did I mention skills? And not just serious skills. Give him some hobby skills. Maybe he's got a love of Godzilla movies (KS: Godzilla Movies). Or plays guitar (PS: Guitarist). Or PS: Practical Joke Design. (I do not suggest the skill I came up with for an NPC that is actually now published in Digital Hero by a friend of mine, who is also the GM: 'KS: Why Dr. Brutallo Should Rule The World.' Unless you agree. In which case, hey, go with it.)
  2. Various and sundry over the years. Superscientist and prankster Gomi, having hit the criminal telepath Psinapse with a pie that was lemon merangue and sodium pentathol in DMSO (a 3D6 EGO drain): "Fear my pastry-wielding wrath!" (Psinapse's agents then coordinaged with their guns and made me so glad I had a 20PD/20ED forcefield. I also am the only person in campaign history - all 15 years it's been running - to ever lose on a Presence Attack for 'bad soliloquy'.) Gunman, four phases before his sad death, meeting Sunburst for the first time: "He's wearing all gold! He must be a superhero!" (Gunman later emptied his pistol into Sunburst at pointblank range, resulting in a small fission reaction... well Gunman didn't think so, being that he was blasted to atoms along with Sunburst.) "Time to make the earth move!" - entire team preparing to coordinate on Earthmaster, who was just being annoying, so we all set it up to go when the brick's Haymaker went off. He lived. He didn't take BODY. He did, however, go to #25 on the All Time Negative Stun chart at -203. "We're sorry, Mesa, but we have to arrest your dog. He's the head of the San Diego Yakuza." - when Japanese Spirit Creatures go very, very bad.
  3. We're dealing with the fallout from Foxbat doing JUST THAT VERY THING right now. See, he got his hands on a Magic Lamp and made a wish... Now Sagitarrius of the Zodiac, who was one of his 'really close girls' when his global Mind Control "You Really Like Foxbat" went off, is after him. And when I say 'after' I mean she brought Aquarius, Leo, Scorpio, Aries and Gemini with her for the express intent of killing him. And the San Diego Knights have to save him... even though THEY don't like him EITHER! (Half the team is female, and while none of them got 'used' by Foxbat, they still loathe him for it.)
  4. But Steve already HAS a character sheet. Or should we call you by your REAL NAME, you fiend! Post your sheet, Timothy G. Gersh!
  5. Steel Thunder: Congratulate him on his recent enlightenment and offer assistance if he requires help remaining on a moral path. Ultra Gadget Queen G: "If he's so reformed, let's see how he reacts to a prank..." Msgr. Jean-Claude des Champs: Welcome him back to the side of Righteousness and ask if he feels the need for Confession. Warpage: Smile, be nice, watch like a hawk. Outback, Smile, be nice, wait for him to prove it's just a trick. Impact: Wait for the other damn shoe to drop.
  6. Oh, well, if we're going by character... Steel Thunder: the plan I gave in my first post. Ultra Gadget Queen G: Tell the heroes, have them verify, then spent as much time as possible gadgeteering up as many city defences as possible, like a huge forcewall over the city, to minimize the damage. Outback: work with the evac. As a mage with flight and a lot of TK, he can move a lot of people. Warpage: the plan I gave in my first post. Msgn. Jean-Claude des Champes: lead the Roman Catholic - or even just the Christian - heroes in prayed beforehand, and then leave in order to minister to those who have been displaced. Bestiary: help with the evac, then join the fight. (Metamorph with the ability to do what any mammal is good for helping with evacuation or survival shelters.
  7. Yes, it really depends. For example: The Cateran (as I look to the side and see her in all her lovely kilted glory... sorry, will stop drooling now) could be seen as having 'Advanced Physiology Powers", as they seem to be basically superstrength, life support and regeneration. If you could drain 'Biological Powers', your drain would work fine... but it wouldn't stop her claymore (and I'd suggest moving soon, unless you had 'ranged' on your drain, because it'll STILL hurt even if you drop her STR from 50 to 25 with a drain....) One of my characters, Steel Thunder, is descended from one of The Blood (from the Aaron Allston book). From that part of her nature comes her regeneration, her ability to sense other Blood, and what she thinks are her ch'i powers. Her training, however, gives her the main powers - martial arts skills, Leaping of insane levels, most of her DEX and SPD. In what turned out to be literally a running fight between her and someone using captured GENOCIDE trooper armor (GENOCIDE having, in the campaign, been smashed and their stuff taken into custody) with the mutant-power-drainer. It took away her ch'i powers, lowered her DEX a little, and removed her ability to sense Blood, but when she got to a good place to turn around, she still was nasty enough to take out the armor with her martial arts. This is an actual occurance of 'all powers of a specific special effect' in use, which is why I share it.
  8. 1) Go to the Sentinels, tell them you're from the future, that all Hell is about to break loose. 2) Have their telepath probe your mind. Do not resist. 3) Help with the evacuation. 4) Die alongside them against Destroyer as one of the 'unknown heroes' that died in the fighting, just to buy the evacuation a few more moments.
  9. In our campaign, our characters have their base at the top of a skyscraper (all of the PCs either fly or have abilities to not have to worry about the height). The top 8 floors are ours. The next 8 floors are empty and heavily reinforced, but with charges so that, if there's a problem, it can separate our base from the rest of the building in order to keep it safe. On the first floor, at street level, is a bank. someone tried to ROB the bank by ripping out the ATMs and carrying them off. At noon on a Wednesday. You'd think that the sign 'Home of the San Diego Knights!" on the building that was put up would warn these people. But no... Bulldozer was very, very unhappy that day. And swore he'd get even with (and I quote) "that stupid chop-socky Jap broad!" (Yes. He was taken down by the team's martial artist.) Never underestimate the ability of a supervillian to come up with an unexpectedly brazen (see also: really stupid) plan.... (Interestingly enough, we also found out that there were two other supers planning on doing the exact same thing an hour later, but when they saw Bulldozer being taken away, they decided to give up. That's a plot for you! Your supervillian team goes to commit a crime and finds out that either someone else is doing it at the same time... or that they did it half an hour ago! So, what do you do about it?)
  10. In the game I'm in, there's someone who has a minor transform that allows them to change someone's appearance. He kidnaps women - just one at a time - changes them to look like superheroines, and then films BDSM movies with the women. It's very much an underground thing, but people who are into it talk about how 'real' the performances by the actresses are, how great the makeup is... ...most of them don't know that this is a low-grade supervillain basically filming his own rape fantasies and using them to make money. We just found out that he kidnapped a college girl, and he's hired a real super to play the attacker in the next movie. He's a brick.... Our team, which is mostly women, was motivated to find him before. We're wondering if Manniquin will be able to walk and feed himself when this is over. (And guys? This is a great thread. It gives some of us new ideas of things to run for players to have to deal with.)
  11. I have no art talent. But I get paid well. So I contract out. From James Dawsey at http://www.jamesdawsey.com/ a picture of Ultra Gadget Queen G: And from Wai Chu Yu at http://www.xenzen.com/ an image of Steel Thunder:
  12. My GM claims that rule is 'broken' and therefore nonusable in this situation. So now I have to fudge for it...
  13. One of my my primary characters is a martial artist. The campaign is just now getting restarted with the Power Of Fred, and I'm trying to build a power that doesn't seem to fit anything currently extant, so I thought I'd call on the brains of Herodom Assembled for help. The concept: Someone manages to hit Steel Thunder. Knockback is done. How do you reduce knockback damage without minimizing the amount of knockback? Her ki powers are more designed on movement and attack, not on things like 'rooting to the earth'. More like a super rolling-with-the-punch, controlling the knockback with her martial arts and acrobatic skills. I was thinking something like Knockback Resistance, only to reduce damage dice from knockback, does not reduce distance moved (together making about a -1/2), Requires An Acrobatics Roll (not sure which level to use). But I'm wondering if there's a cleaner way to do it. And so, I came here.
  14. I'm working on powers in the power pool of a character that just got a Radiation Accident that transformed her from a mutated felinoid to a metamorph. Her core power is to become a humanoid with the powers of any mammal. I've got more than a few done (dolphin, bat, sloth, elephant, big cat, rhino, armadillo), but how to do the spray of the skunk continues to elude me. I know it has to be done as a linked power to do it all. I'm thinking a NND with a linked flash vs. smell and a linked cosmetic transform (person to very smell person, healed by washing in tomato juice). Does this seem to be correct? (Skunks are, I note, missing from the Bestiary for, I bet, just this reason.)
  15. Read the review. Judge for yourself. -- from the RPGNet Review
  16. It didn't. It just disappeared after the first hit. I suppose I could have made it Sticky... hm. maybe next time.
  17. 4D6 NND EB, Defence is deafness, Ego 20+, more than 10 points of Mental Defence, or being under the age of 8. The Evil Sonic Cannon: "I love you, you love me..." Cosmetic Transformation: Human to Human with the word 'IT' in blue letters on the back of his head. (We were dealing with CLOWN. Those who know the character this most affected know that it was not the person who got hit with the transform.) Entangle linked to a Cosmetic Transform: Very Sticky Polymer. No effect if you have Resistant PD through a focus... or go naked. ("I break out of the entangle!" "Your costume goes with it!") 2d6 AE Select Fire Flash, trigger: when doors are opened: machines hit people in the face with a pie when they walk through a door, the AE to reflect that it's in the entire base. (Yes, it's a serious tweak, but it was what was needed. (Gadgeteer. Psych Lim: Prankster. Avoid these things together if you can.)
  18. Worse than World of Synnabar ? I find that scary....
  19. Re: Cost of Armor you know, I was just going through and working the math out on this, and about to note just the same thing, when I said, "Hey, this is a multipage thread!" and saw your post. Oh well. But the issue is that basically, DR = Armor, if you do the math (2 points of PD, made resistant is 1 point; therefore it's 3 for every 2 points). So if you take Armor, Costs End (-1/2), it becomes 2 points for 2 points... and that's Force Field. How is Force Field broken when you can derive it properly? They're all balanced with each other.
