  1. Re: Brainstorming a James Bond campaign I was thinking Paris but Jamaica is also good and so is Monte Carlo. I don't think it would be Washington but that mainly because I see Bond as based primarily in Europe. As for Hong Kong neither one speak any oriental languages which would put them at a handicap. In the Navy I like the idea of the SBS best, although Naval Intelligence would let him keep his hand in the business making it easier for Thatcher to tap him to head up the Service. He could then move from field work to analysis to head of a department. BTW according to Pearson, Bond pulled about a year of Destroyer duty as a young lieutenant in 1940 before being moved into Naval Intelligence at the request of one Lieutenant-Commander Ian Fleming, RNVR. It's your campaign, Agemegos, do whatever you're comfortable with. Personally I think his jaded outlook has more to do with his experiences than his age. And I like the idea of Thatcher appointing him. I think it would fit her policies better. Enjoy. It's an interesting book supposedly takes place in 1973 so it might be useful for what you're doing.
  2. Re: Brainstorming a James Bond campaign Moonraker. 1st chapter. But now that I've told you I have to kill you. Sorry about that old boy.
  3. Re: Brainstorming a James Bond campaign 1. What might Bond have been doing between 1963 and 1978? Possibly he returned to service with the Royal Navy. Possibly joined Felix Lieter as a PI not for Pinkertons but rather with their own agency and operating internationally. Another posiblity is working as a consultant with many friendly agencies, not MI-6 for the reasons detailed below. 2. What events of the late 70s might have been behind Sir Maurice Oldfield being sacked and Sir James Bond being appointed to replace him? (It might of course be something unknown to the publis or to history.) When Sir Maurice took over the department from Sir Miles Messervy he brought in several of his old chums for key positions. Bond suspected one was a Russian double agent and protested strongly eventually resigning in protest. Years later MI-5 exposes the old chum for being exactly what Bond said he was. In the ensuing shake-up Sir Maurice is either forced to resign or blows his brains out. 3. What new arrangements and focus might a man like Bond introduce in the late 1970s? Well first off he would bring back the 00 section which Sir Maurice (at the suggestion of his old chum) abolished in 1965. Bond would expand operations back up to full strength as Sir Maurice had been cutting things to the bone for years. Correctly evaluating the Middle East as the next major hot spot and state-sponsered terrorism as a growing threat Bond would create a new section within MI-6 designed to counter this threat. At the same time he will not ignore the Soviets as they've just proved that the cold war isn't over yet. Bond would allow his field agents more freedom of action once more, in an effort to maintain control Sir Maurice had his people practically requesting permission to go to the loo by the end. 4. Is there anything in what I have specified that you think could be improved? Just one thing, Bond was born in 1920 not 1918. on Armistice Day November 11th in Germany while his father, Andrew Bond an engineer for Metro-Vickers, was dismantling the Kaiser's armaments industry. Check out John Pearson's James Bond the authorized biography of 007 it's long out of print but you might be able to get a copy at your library or online at ebay.
  4. Re: Anybody remember Space Opera? Actually I ran a Star Hero/Space Opera cross once upon a time. Here's the link to the part of my website with my old campaign info: http://www.geocities.com/blademaster01757/starhero.html The problem with Space Opera has always been its complexity. Far more so than the HERO System. A newbie could easily spend 5 or 6 hours generating just one character and it doesn't get much faster for an experienced player. There are just too many calculations. Still, it is a very complete system.
  5. Re: Rising Stars Thanks Vanguard. That's pretty much the feel I'm looking for.
  6. I'm working on a new campaign for Star Hero. Basically I've taken some elements from Terran Empire mixed them up a bit, added in elements from a particular sci-fi series that The Horror will recognize, and put in a new background. But I'm not sure how well it hangs together. Please view the attached file (assuming it works) Comments and suggestions are requested.
  7. Re: Spiderman Vs. Firelord GTAgamemaster, I'm not annoyed at you. I'm sorry if I gave that impression. I'm pissed at Madstone. He knew exactly what would happen when he brought up Cap and Bats. That's why he put "dives for cover" at the end of the post. It was like banging a gong after mom and dad had finally gotten the baby to sleep at 3 in the morning and now it's up and crying again. He was trolling pure and simple.
  8. Re: Spiderman Vs. Firelord Why did you have to start this pissing contest up again? The last time it went on for an ungodly number of posts before finally dying down from exhaustion. Nobody's mind got changed, everybody just got tired of arguing about it. So now you had to come and start the fxxxxxg thing up again! Good Work!
  9. Re: Leagacy of Iron: Power Suit characters...
  10. Re: Pulp Hero?? As it happens I have run two JI campaigns in my time. The paradigm for the last one can be viewed at my old website: http://www.geocities.com/blademaster01757/dochawkstar.html It was pretty much a standard non-specific pulp campaign that crossed over a wide variety of pulp sub-genres, although the main focus was usually crime-fighting or adventure. The other actually came first. It was my old Zarkon campaign from the mid 80s. It was Pulp Sci-Fi very much a homage to Flash Gordon. There was some talk of HERO publishing it back when Bruce Harlick was running things but then DOJ came in and that was the end of that. I'm looking forward to the new Pulp Hero but with Steve Long doing the writing instead of Aaron Allston I have my doubts as to how good it will be. Not that Steve's a bad writer mind you but I think that a.) He needs a strong editor over him to keep him at the top of his game; b.) He has entirely too much on his plate these days to devote the time and effort that the project really needs; and c.) Aaron really has a greater love of the genre and that makes him better suited to write the book than Steve is. I'm sure it will be ok. I just don't think it will be in the same class as the original.
  11. Re: What cities could Batman call home? For a CU city it really has to be Hudson City, and more correctly the Justice not Law Hudson City. there should be superhumans, they should be rare or very low-level but they need to be a viable threat. As for a real world city I'd say Chicago is your best choice. There's just no way he could operate in Manhattan without getting caught, particularly with the car, it's an island after all.
  12. Re: Nothing personal Ben, but I killed you last night.
  13. Re: Nothing personal Ben, but I killed you last night. Simple, spell ordinary names backwards. Thomas becomes Samoht James becomes Semaj Benjamin becomes Nimajneb Wasn't that easy? Another great source of usable names is your basic phone book. Thousands upon thousands of names at your fingertips.
  14. Re: Sci-fi the 60's way: Strategic Space Command Cool! I used to have that. Haven't seen it in ages of course. But it was very cool way back when.
  15. All in how you look at it I guess.
  16. Expensive! . . . REALLY Expensive! Honor would be a minimum of 400 points but probably closer to 600 with most of her stats being in the Legendary range, lots of skills levels and an absolutely frightening number of Martial Arts Manuevers. Remember she took out a highly trained team of Assassins in THOTQ pretty much single-handed except for Nimitz; who would be built as her follower and pretty costly himself. The rest of her people would probably be in the 200 to 400 point area. Let's remember they're all a lot older and therefore more experienced than they look.
  17. Disappointing, very disappointing. So is anything from JI going to make the transition or are you planning to trash all of it in favor of your new material? Just curious, you can do whatever you like, its your company after all. My interest is strictly as a potential buyer.
  18. Back when Justice Inc first came out almost all the examples used the same three characters: John Hawkstar (the SJH) Tom Electric (the SL) and The Green Spectre (the AEV) but there were never any write ups for any of these. Is there any chance that we might finally see some write ups for these classic characters in next year's Pulp Hero?
  19. Actually Destroyer is the literal translation of Zerstoiten. He, like Victor Von Doom, just uses his own name.
  20. But we're still keeping it kinda on track. A little bit anyway
  21. Can't remember all of this one just bits and pieces and I'm not sure of the order they go in. Sorry.
  22. Look at me now At my old post Happy that I can forget The Barbary Coast Where is my crew Send in my crew See our old ship Down from the sky None of the engines are working And neither am I Send in the crew Once I was saving their lives with my medical skill Where am I now Over the hill How have we done Not well I fear Typecast as spacemen Which mean we've no career So send in the crew This old washed-up crew We're better off here Sorry but I just had to.
  23. So you want ship names eh? Follow this link and you'll have more than you know what to do with: http://www.cronab.demon.co.uk/INTRO.HTM Want other nations? That's easy enough just translate these into the language of your choice over here: http://babelfish.altavista.com/ How's that for service?
  24. As it happens I did this with my character of Centurion back during the 90s. The GM just had me write the various armors up as though they were seperate characters. He didn't bother with having me buy each suit as long as the cost for each varient was less than the standard armor. They all had to be kept at one of two locations - Centurion's Armory at Strike Force Mansion Command Headquarters or the Armory under the Stevens Tower in Boston (Corp. HQ). I could only change armors at those locations. What made it work out was the fact that I didn't abuse the idea and constantly switch from armor to armor but instead stuck with the standard varient A suit for the most part, only changing when there was a compelling and character driven reason to. Of course every one of those armors was stolen by Viper when one of there moles cracked the security codes to the Armory and Centurion had to track them down and destroy them but that just made for a good adventure.
