Re: A Thread for Random Musings
Just a quote that popped up on fortune.
Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet deprecate agitation, are men who want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the roar of its many waters.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings
Pride is always a bitter, barbed pill to swallow.
Doing so requires we not think ourselves above another. Any other. We may not agree with them, and we may even be forced to fight them, but none of that makes us 'better.'
Often it requires us to give way when the urge to be unmoving is causing the blood to pound in our ears.
It can require us to stand silent before the jeering mass even when we feel justified in bringing the hosts of heaven down around their heads.
It always requires us to accept our own fallability. No matter how much we would like to protest to the contrary, we are the cause and center of our trials and troubles.
Pride erodes away at us slowly and steadily. The longer we let it do so, the greater the distance between us and the rest of our world will become.
Close friends become acquaintances.
Friendly rivals become enemies.
Disagreement becomes intolerance and hate.
We like to ignore how destructive pride is. We'd like to make it a virtue. We want our posturing and chest-thumping to be seen as good and righteous.
I'd sure like that, but it isn't.

I have this vision of Soulcatcher as one of the robots from the Dark Tower series. He is slowly running out of battery and as a result his programming is messing up. So he keeps posting random information in the nature of his last assigned program.

Dog Food - Iggy Pop
I'm hanging around that same old scene
My girlfriend Betsy she's just fourteen
There's nothing better for me to do
I'm living on dog food
Dog food is so good for you
It makes you strong and clever too
Dog food is a current craze
Eat some every day
I chew up my "Sunday Mirror"
I read about the rich I fear
Dog food is my whole life
Dog food composes my wife

Re: Musings on Random Musings
To ask one and not the other is insulting. I asked both as it was the right thing to do for the boards.
I like both of you so I will not be accused of playing favourites. Squirrel and Kara are trying to keep people calm. Let's see if we can keep it that way.
Bearing in mind also that Skaramine and Worldmaker's fight lead to the closing down of the original Random Musings on Random Musings thread could the pair of you relax and not attack each other's posts again ?
You are both posting good stuff here but both of you still have a grudge against the other. Curse at the screen all you want but lay off having a go at each other, it'll only give you both ulcers. Speak to Kara and Rachel and take a deep breath.
Granted there is enough to get anyone upset but in the end it ain't worth it.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings
Sorry to inject this in the middle of the stand up!
I "walked the walk" today, and it was tough! I got together with an old buddy; he and I were homeless together as teens, and saw each other through some real hard times. We shared interest in guitar years ago, and when I caught up with him it was one of teh first things I asked him. Turns out that his ex trashed his guitar, and times have been too lean for him to replace it. I couldn't decide which of mine I could part with, so I took my acoustics to him and let him pick one. So now Valerie 23, the Ibanez A/E has a new home. Like the scripture says, "If you have two cloaks, and someone has none, give him one of yours."
It was awesome to get together with him again, and my family is asleep so I'm telling you about it. We talked about how fortunate we are to be drawing breath after the adventures we went through. We laughed about living for a week on oyster crackers and cocoa packets, reminisced over fights where we backed each other up, shared fond memories of sleeping in the school bus lot, shivered over hitchhiking nightmares become reality, and looked deep into our beers as we remembered the times we got dinner out of a dumpster.
I felt a little bad, because I have gathered more material wealth than he has been able to. I am fortunate to be able to offer my family security that I never had, and I would like for him to have that too. But he's content; he has a daughter he sees sometimes, a couple exes that suck up his money - but he has found peace after all of that.
I see him now, and remember him as a kid and am just amazed that he is doing as well as he is, even though he's sharing a home with some other folks. I mean, to climb up from nothing and earn a place in society is very hard - too many take it for granted. But it also really hits home about just how far I have come. I was street punk just like him, and I, too, take my success for granted far too often. I am no rags to riches millionaire, but my family has a full belly and a roof overhead, and those are huge blessings indeed.
Just remember, fellow citizens: In America you have the right to succeed beyond your wildest imaginings. But with that comes teh right to fail and fall totally unnoticed through the cracks.
There but for the grace of God go I.

Well here is goes
Moo are You
I woke up in on the Interstate
A farmer knew my name
He said "You can go sleep in the barn tonight
If you can get up and Moo away"
I staggered back to the manger
And the breeze blew on my back
I remember throwin' punches around
And preachin' from my haystack
Moo are you?
Moo, Moo, Moo, Moo?
Moo are you?
Moo, Moo, Moo, Moo?
Moo are you?
Moo, Moo, Moo, Moo?
Moo are you?
Moo, Moo, Moo, Moo
I took the tractor back out of the farm
Back to the inn Cow Singer
I felt a little like a dying sheep
With a streak of Debra Winger []
I stretched back and glanced around
And looked back my busy day
Eleven hours at Ragin' Bec's farm
God, there's got to be better way
Moo are you?
Moo, Moo, Moo, Moo?
Moo are you?
Moo, Moo, Moo, Moo?
Moo are you?
Moo, Moo, Moo, Moo?
Moo are you?
Moo, Moo, Moo, Moo
I know there's a place you farmed
Where milk falls from the teets
My heart is like a broken bottle
A seeping hole that can't be filled
I spit out like sour milk
Yet still recieve your kiss
How can I measure up to anyone now
After such a Moo as this?

I give up.
I can't save the threads that are going to be closed when Ben sees what happened tonight.
No matter how much one person wants things to be peaceful, it just won't work if just one person is determined there will be no peace.
I can't change that. I tried, but I can't.
I'm done trying.

How about Blammo?
What rolls down stairs
alone or in pairs,
and over your neighbor's dog?
What's great for a snack,
And fits on your back?
It's log, log, log
It's log, it's log,
It's big, it's heavy, it's wood.
It's log, it's log, it's better than bad, it's good."
Everyone wants a log
You're gonna love it, log
Come on and get your log
Everyone needs a log
log log log
LOG FROM BLAMMO

Re: A Thread for Random Musings
I spend 4 days just 4 days off the boards and come back to 16 pages of Random Musings on Random Musings, a few pages of Longest Thread and lots of art work from Acroyear.
Plus the tail end of WM vs Skaramine now settled thankfully and the great avatar controversy.
People relax. The Tribble, your Tribble is back.
Now for something completely uncontroversial. We nuke Madison Square gardens tomorrow ?
Questions ?

Re: A Thread for Random Musings
My mother the staunch, Rush Limbaugh-loving single-issue-voter Republican sent me this, so blame her, not me:
********************
President Bush was visiting a primary school and he visited one of the classes. They were in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings. The teacher asked the President if he would like to lead the discussion on the word "tragedy". So the illustrious leader asked the class for an example of a "tragedy".
One little boy stood up and offered: "If my best friend, who lives on a farm, is playing in the field and a tractor runs over him and kills him, that would be a tragedy."
"No," said Bush, "that would be an accident."
A little girl raised her hand: "If a school bus carrying 50 children drove over a cliff, killing everyone inside, that would be a tragedy."
"I'm afraid not," explained the president. "That's what we would call a great loss."
The room went silent. No other children volunteered. Bush searched the room. "Isn't there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?"
Finally at the back of the room a small boy raised his hand. In a quiet voice he said: "If Air Force One carrying You and Mrs. Bush was struck by a "friendly fire" missile and blown to smithereens, that would be a tragedy.
"Fantastic!" exclaimed Bush. "That's right. And can you tell me why that would be tragedy?"
"Well," says the boy, "It has to be a tragedy, because it certainly wouldn't be a great loss and it probably wouldn't be an accident either."

My wife and I just made up a really fun game to do while shopping. It's called Freakshow count. Any time you're in Walmart, Target, Costco, ect..., every freakshow counts for one point for the finder, and the one with the most points wins. A freashow can be a woman with bad BO, someone wearing clothes that cause eye damage, big bellies hangign out from under a shirt, ect... This weekend, I won with a BO girl, poodle hair girl, and man picking nose.
