As much as Canadians have always complained about the annoying, frustrating, inexplicable things Americans do, we've always been grateful to have the United States as our neighbor. We considered Americans to be dependable friends, partners and allies. We felt safe with them. The prospect of that changing is deeply unsettling to us, and if it becomes reality we'll be facing a profound paradigm shift in how we think and live.

First day out of self-isolation.  Never got much worse than a middling head cold...and I apparently isolated well enough that my wife never caught it (she's been testing throughout -- all negative).
 
Thank you vaccines and booster for what seems to have been a very mild case.  Apart from 10 days of enforced boredom (where I never left the bedroom), not too bad....and the enforced boredom was likely something that I kind of needed...

We sent our kids to private schools, but thankfully with less-asinine rules related to vaccinations and other Covid precautions.  Once vaccines became available they were strongly encouraged (though not mandated).  Any kids displaying Covid symptoms were required to self quarantine for 14 days.  One such kid came to a Clay Targets shooting event anyway, and once he was spotted by the head coach, was sent home as fast as we could get a parent there to get him.  He also got a good chewing-out, and oh boy was it a doozy since the coach is also a retired drill instructor.

I sent a friend a spare 3e Bestiary some time back.
 
I included an 8.5x11 inch piece of plywood in the envelope specifically to prevent that.

Anti-Vaccine Cartoonist Ben Garrison Says He's Got Covid-19, Won't Go to Hospital

You're only human, Doc.  I have likewise lost family to Covid, and...well, you and I are pretty much in the same boat.  I have dear friends and family who are in the anti-vax/anti-mask camp, and so far I've kept the peace by staying away from them and not bringing up this topic.  I just...can't bring myself to feel much sympathy for them when they get it (one anti-vax family did, and in two cases it led to pneumonia).
 
There are more words swirling around in the pea soup that is my brain, but right now they aren't taking shape.  I just can't think rationally when I try to empathize with the anti-vax crowd.

I had a nurse show me how to solve this by positioning the mask one time, but I still only hit that sweet spot some of the time. Also, getting that nose area of the seal tight. I pre-bend the nose metal bendy bit (technical term) before I put on the mask, so it's kind of rounded and nose-shaped on the bend, and the bend is centered. That seems to help. So, my advice is: Find a nurse that wears glasses and have her show you how to avoid the fog.

One of Lady P's oldest friends is in the hospital with COVID-19. He's been there for several days, and a couple of days ago he went on a ventilator. He has pneumonia and may be developing blood clots. He's strong, but the prognosis isn't good.
 
For the curious, yes, he's a COVID/vaccine conspiracy theorist.
 
His wife abandoned him and their four kids a couple of years ago because she didn't want to be a mother and wife anymore. If he doesn't make it, those kids are going to be stuck with an egg donor (I won't call her a Mom) who has already made it clear that she doesn't want them.
 
The whole situation sucks.
