Longest Running Thread EVER

My understanding is that on the Old World sense, maize is a proper subset of corn, which includes barley, rye, and some other cereals.  That use of the word stems from at least the Roman era, but I don't have a clear picture of what "corn" in the old Old World sense means in specifics.
