Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Some folks built a replica of the Nina (one of Columbus's three ships) and it was on display here for a few days. 100 ton caravel. The deck is 66 feet long, 7 feet wide, and that's where the crew sleeps; the hold is full of food & water & other stores. Four masts, each carrying one sail (the fore & main are square, the two mizzen are lateen); no tops on any of the masts. Nominal crew: 27. Takes ten to raise the mainsail, eight to raise the foresail, fewer than that to raise each of the mizzen sails. And Nina was Columbus's favorite of the three vessels. Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER We'll see if any the pictures I took show anything. Given that everything but the sails and deck was painted black, I have real doubts.

Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER They're binary, so compression won't produce any real improvement, even if their purpose wasn't compromised by compression (they're bootable CD image files).
