YOUR FRIENDS: Cost You Points, or Get You Points?

In other words, think about your best friend Charlie.

And, think about describing your life on a character sheet.

Now where does Charlie fall?

If he's helpful and useful, knowing him costs you a few points... :bmk:

( contact, ally, summon, favors )

If he's an obnoxious or lazy dork, he cost you points: :ugly:

( bad rep, dnpc or other social disad )

Well which is it? Is your buddy a net gain or net loss?

Re: YOUR FRIENDS: Cost You Points, or Get You Points?

Hmm..

Bill: Asset. very smart and his dad is loaded.

Rema: Asset. Again very smart and he seemingly owns at least one copy of every RPG ever sold.

Matt: ... Push. He owns a comicbook store, but I don't really consider him much of a friend and he's a borderline ass.

I need more friends.

I'll reply in depth later. I had no idea people would actually post names!

Is lemming implying that his buddy is just SFX on his knowledge skills?

kafka would be so proud !

Well, notice I didn't note any of the implied disads. :nonp:

Re: YOUR FRIENDS: Cost You Points, or Get You Points?

Most of my friends would be contacts, with a few favors thrown in. My lass, I'm afraid to say, would be a DNPC that gives me a few disad points. I love her dearly, and shes quite talented, but I wind up dealing with a lot of grief as a result of her proclivities :D

Thankfully, shes gotten well over the stage where she wanted me to defend her honor in casual situations, and is now better at dealing with catcalls and the like as (offhand, crude and offensive) compliments.

Re: YOUR FRIENDS: Cost You Points, or Get You Points?

I'd have to say that every one of my friends who reads these boards and is likely to see this post (Like Hex & Bluebudda) are such amazing folks that at least half my points are spent on knowing them.

The rest of the folk in my life who are likely never going to see this post are such a worthless pack of incompatent normals they should be glad they are my DNPCs! :D

Re: YOUR FRIENDS: Cost You Points, or Get You Points?

Most of my friends aren't points -- but that's more of a statement about the number of people I have contact with than the quality of friendships. I happen to have Butler County Ohio's equivalent of Kevin Bacon for a mother -- you know, 6 steps and all that? She's probably no more than 2-3 steps removed from anyone in this county. She would definitely require the "contact has significant contacts" adder. Heck, if you wrote her up in HERO she'd have to have Well Connected and would still probably have 30-50 points in contacts...

I jokingly paid points for my dog Buster Seeker when I wrote myself up, but in truth he doesn't behave well enough to be considered a follower.

My main issue would be that most of my contacts wouldn't be much good to an adventurer. You want a house built? I know enough people with the right skills to get it done. You want to raise a posse? I know a few ex-cops but that's it...

Re: YOUR FRIENDS: Cost You Points, or Get You Points?

there ya go, almost everyone I know that costs me points, and then some who give me points.

you have to be LEAVING the emotional end out of your list, cause some people you hate to see walk in the door really do you no harm per se. :tonguewav

I assume a thread of "write yourself up in Champions" has been done to death, right?

if you hadnt given me that disc, Desmarais, you would've been worth one less point on my sheet.

if you werent in the champions game, you'd be worth zero points on the sheet

Hmmmm. How much does it cost to be someone's SFX on their skills? Does that mean that by correlation, I get those skills too? Do we save points by making friends SFX on disads as well?

disad: 5 : spouse hates rpg's (sfx: gamer buddies taking up all weekend free time)

happy to be Lemming's sfx for extra time on knowledge skills

It's a big scheme to squeeze more points out of the campaign. All those limitations like "Must have cell phone" etc...
