Cancer Posted November 29, 2012 Report Share Posted November 29, 2012 Re: A Thread For Random Links This is probably behind a subscriber wall for most people, but Genome Study Helps Contain MRSA Oubreak ... in one hospital in the UK, doing exhaustive genome sequencing for MRSA taken from victims of the infection (nineteen different people over six months of time) found something unsuspected. After having a handful of cases, sterilizing the hospital, and then getting another case 64 days later, they screened the hospital staff and discovered an asymptomatic carrier of that MRSA strain among the people working at the hospital. It's annoying and gruesome looking, but in adults with fully developed immune systems not seriously dangerous. The serious victims were kids or people in the hospital already fighting other health problems. I tried to spread it, but people kept washing their hands! There are currently 4 vacant manager seats in the Second division. However, if and hopefully when a larger number of new managers show up, we would happily establish a completely new Novice division. Candidate managers enter the ordered waiting list by emailing Commissioner Timo Ojala (timo.ojala@ee.oulu.fi) a valid Novice roster that complies with the rules described in the section "TEAM CREATION" of the WEFS Rulebook available at: http://www.ee.oulu.fi/~skidi/WEFS/Current%20Season/The%20Rulebook. The deadline for Novice rosters is Monday, January 7, 2013, at 1400 UTC. First 4 managers in the waiting list will get the vacant seats in the Second division. If at least 6 additional Novice managers enter the waiting list by the deadline, then a new Novice division will be established for season 19. WEFS costs nothing to play but time. However, there's a learning curve, lots of math, lots of bad puns, and with a novice roster you'll be, well, near the bottom of the league. If you're interested, drop me a line, and mention an announcement by Feff (my nick there) in your note to Timo. Incidentally, the ninth WEFS World Cup is being played now; see here/.
