Yansuf
Re: What I learned playing a fighter... As an SCA fighter of 12+ years, here's what I learned. Block, always block. Make sure you have a good shield. Make sure your swords and other weapons have your strength level in mind. Keep moving. It sets up openings. Wear armor that fits. Your helmet is your friend. As a retired SCA fighter (with more than 12 years) I endorse the above. As a seperate lesson: find some friends and train together. A shield wall (even a short one) backed by long spears is deadly, just make sure they cannot turn your flank.

As a seperate lesson: find some friends and train together. A shield wall (even a short one) backed by long spears is deadly, just make sure they cannot turn your flank. A sword and shield with a long weapon flanker (great sword, spear, pole-arm) can do far more damage together than each could do separately. And if you're the flanker, don't be afraid to fore-go kills in order to set up foes for the sword and shield man. You have 5'-9' of stick in your hands -- press shields out of the way, foul foe's arms and weapons, throw blows that must be blocked, and generally be a pest and menace to your enemies. The S&S man will be able to mop up like no one's business.

keithcurtis
Re: What I learned playing a fighter... When facing multiple opponents, attack the weakest opponent until he drops. Then go on to the next weakest. Fighting two healthy fighters is less attacks on you than fighting four slightly wounded ones. Keith "chop! chop! chop!"
