WWYCD: GRAB infilitration

Obviously, this scenerio will not be possible for every character.

PRIMUS (or some other law enforcement agency of your choice) decides the time has come to nab GRAB, or more importantly, whoever is backing them (the "old man") but that's going to take an undercover sting operation. One they don't feel they have the right person for, at least not one they can spare.

So, they turn to your PC. They want your PC to make up a new identity, a supercrook that will still fit in the mindset of the villainous team, who will be invited to join, and then try to find out all he/she can about GRAB, and hopefully get their hands on the Old Man.

While a fake history of crimes will be created to help the cover up, they expect real thefts will have to be shown in order to prove to GRAB you have the chops. SO...the government is willing to pardon all crimes of theft/burgularly, etc your character does while undercover. Vacation time will be arranged for your secret ID if you like, etc, and they can work some pretty good disguise work.

So what costumed crook identity does your character make for him/herself?

What crimes does he/she pull off to attract GRAB's attention? Remember, they prefer non violent types. How would he/she get along with the individual members of GRAB? And how would your character plan the sting on the old man assuming they at least had input?

Re: WWYCD: GRAB infilitration

Soulbarb: Is probably not on PRIMUS's radar to the point where they would choose her. Or at least, so she hopes; she tries to maintain a very low profile. Ironically she'd probably do a pretty good job if she had to, as she's a half-decent actress and one look at her will have GRAB immediately thinking 'villain' rather than 'hero.' If anything she'd have to work on making sure they don't consider her too violent/evil for their brand of operation.

Sylph: Ooh, boy. If PRIMUS has to choose her then they must really be scraping the bottom of the barrel for possible undercover sting candidates because she is sooo not undercover operative material. She's a dancer, not an actress. ;) She'd go along with it, but would be uncomfortable the whole way and not really very convincing to anyone who's a good judge of character; she's just too nice and not nearly selfish enough to make a good thief. If there were any kind of training going on, PRIMUS would soon realize that she's just not a suitable candidate and try someone else.

The Tornado! : would probably be all over this. A) He loves GRAB - their hijinks amuse him. B) In the Defenders Universe, Icicle is part of GRAB and she's a proverbial thorn in T!'s side. Putting her away would be icing on the cake (no pun intended.) Given the fact that he's a super speedster, he'd probably come up with a speed-based villain alter-ego - maybe get a new helmet with some little horns on it, maybe a forked tail added to his costume, and a recoloring and call himself "Speed Demon." Then he'd knock on the door of their headquarters, walk in with bags full of gems and jewelry, drop them on the ground and say. "I'm signing up." They'd probably laugh until he turned on the news reporting half a dozen jewelry stores all over town have just been robbed within seconds of eachother, at which point GRAB would have to recognize that the kid is just good for the bottom line.

Re: WWYCD: GRAB infilitration

Hell's Angel wouldn't be a good choice for this scam. In her secret ID she's an ordinary young woman. As Hell's Angel, she's supernaturally beautiful (and doesn't wear a mask), charismatic and has huge angel-type wings and has fire powers like the Human Torch. Not much room for a new super identity there.

Black Mask is a Matrix-style super martial artist. He could easily gin up a new costumed identity and commit lots of after-hours burglaries of jewelry stores and the like to beef up his criminal rep.

Le Fantome likewise. He's a martial artist who can turn to mist (like a vampire), becoming essentially intangible and invisible. He'd have no problem making a name for himself with amazing daring daylight burglaries.

Re: WWYCD: GRAB infilitration

Uhm... Void and Scarface are both right out. No way would they fit in with those jokers. :-P

Darkchild would have a hard time, because her powers are all tied into very easily recognizable incantations, so....

Huntress: Actually, she wouldn't create a new persona. She'd look up an old 'friend' of hers, Kinetica, and 'borrow' her power suit design, cut a deal through PRIMUS to get her to agree. Then Kinetica "breaks out" of prison in her power suit and signs on with GRAB shortly afterwards. Potential problems with her doing this, but of that team, she's the best choice.

Galaxy Girl: Heck, who needs a new ID? Just "go bad" - she's already got a reputation as a trouble maker who loves to joke around and 'tease' her opponents. She'd just pull a few robberies, scuffle with her teammates a time or two... then try to ingratiate herself with GRAB.

Heck, she might even try that without the PRIMUS help... there's this irritating little problem she has with being impulsive....

Obviously' date=' this scenerio will not be possible for every character.[/quote']And yet, aren't those the most likely to respond? ;)

So what costumed crook identity does your character make for him/herself?

Well, as you know, I only have one active character and she has a Public ID. However, Juggernaut would probably dye her hair blonde and wear a mask (in hopes that would help get her foot in the door). With all blue Hummingbird having a KS: The Superhuman World 11-, she'd probably get spotted quickly. Assuming she doesn't though, she'd probably get along fine with the team, as long as Cheshire Cat doesn't flirt too much or try to get too friendly.

For "villain-themed" names, she might try White Diamond (specifically since both women are bricks and this might draw GRAB's attention) or Titaness. With Acting at 13-, she'd possibly be able to stay in the group -until unmasking time.

She'd try to use her Conversation to get to know how the team feels about certain supers in general and to win their trust, possibly bringing up 'hypothetical' situations of heroes going bad. Then, when her ID was blown, she'd try her Persuasion to convince them that she's "moonlighting" and doesn't want to be exposed. She'd probably blame it on Foxbat as well.

As for putting the "sting to the old man" she'd have to ask for help ahead of time on that, but probably having to get a court-legal confession and tie him up (and in that order). Not knowing who he is and what (if any) powers he has, she'd have to be cautious.

Re: WWYCD: GRAB infilitration

Terminus just wouldn't be suitable. He's too much the straight arrow, and for various reasons doesn't work that closely with Primus.

Silverghost, on the other hand, would be perfect. She is a (supposedly reformed) superthief, with powers of teleportation and desolidification (as well as being a world-champion gymnast and contortionist). Primus currently has her on five-years' probation, after which she gets her record expunged - provided she's good (which is hard for a kleptomaniac with a gambling problem).

It would be so easy to stage a falling out between her and Primus. The problem is - GRAB would be too much of a temptation for her. She broke with her old organizaton and turned it in to the authorities because it was hurting (and killing) people. She'd probably find the members of GRAB were Her Kind Of People - turning them in would be impossible!

Suzy would find out who the Old Man is pretty quick, though - she's a great hacker and security systems expert, too. How to trap him would depend on who he is and how to get at him.

Re: WWYCD: GRAB infilitration

Jake the Troll - "um...no." Jake's a lousy liar, and has no desire whatsoever to spend any more time in his Trollknor form than he has to. Also, his parents wouldn't want him away from home, much less going undercover to catch what amounts to the criminal versions of Charlie's Angels.

Icon - "Would Superman do this? I don't think so."

Shinji Miromoto - no need to go undercover. He's technically a criminal already, so he'd just have to be a bit more flashy and high-budget about what he does go after.

Re: WWYCD: GRAB infilitration

Anthem would not appear on the scene as an established villain. She'd play it more as a kid who just discovered her powers and used them to escape from PRIMUS. Word should get around that on her way out of custody she managed to steal something big!

Skills like that (able to escape a hero base and take something with them) should get her over with the bad guys. She'd let them help her create an identity.

Only changes she'd make would be to die her hair black, just to put some distance between her identity and Anthem (who is blonde).

The stolen item would be anything PRIMUS was willing to part with. It should have symbolic importance rather than raw power, like stealing the hat off of Uncle Slam's desk.

Re: WWYCD: GRAB infilitration

Since I started this, I should answer for a few of my own.

A few of them are in worlds where GRAB doesnt exist so I'm leaving them out.

Aquatic-Aquatic would feel like a bull in a china shop compared to these guys. On the other hand, he does have familiarity with disguise. He might surprise himself by being fairly good at it. Finding the old man, however, would be very hard/next to impossible for him unless he got very very lucky.

Gaze-Would have fun with it, his enjoyment of theatricality, acting skill, and mix of martial arts and mind control would mean he'd definitely prove an asset to GRAB, and his skills like stealth and security systems would no doubt impress. Out of all my characters, he probably has the best chance of succeeding.

Mole-Would BE the bull in the china shop. While his tunneling would make the thefts easy, his psych lims of hating to be bored would soon have him knocking heads together instead of playing the waiting game.

Putting it to the Man.

Not knowing who he is and what (if any) powers he has, she'd have to be cautious.[/quote']As a disclaimer, if "the man" turned out to be Menton using GRAB as his own treasure hunters, then all bets are off, Juggernaut would probably be mind controlled to go work at Club Spandex. :angst:
