Mecha in Star Hero

I've just picked up Star Hero, and I'm looking for advice in creating a Mecha (Gundam/Xenogear style, not Mazanger Z Style). Now, I do have a copy of Mekton Z, but as I'm already planning on creating the characters with Hero system, (and, in general, Hero System is exactly what I need for the characters), I'd appreciate not having to create the characters again in the Mekton Z system, just for running the Mecha battles.

Ultimate Vehicle pretty much has everything you need. IIRC' date=' [i']Spacer's Toolkit[/i] also has a section on Mecha. Not sure how useful - I don't use Mecha in my Star Hero games.
There's no section on Mecha in Spacer's Toolkit. There's one kind-of-mech-alike ground vehicle, and that's about it.

I'm a big Mekton fan, and I think you could probably get away with fudging the combat systems together to some extent- Use the Fuzion 1d10->3d6 Difficulty Number translations, and swap Mecha skills for straight CSLs with Mecha Combat. Good luck whatever method you choose.

oh, dear god, no! I remember the last time R-Talsorian and HERO tried to merge systems. I still haven't gotten that horrible taste out of my mouth.

 

And I had such hope for the BGC RPG. (one of my favorite Anime OAV's)

 

Hero does a fine job of simulating mecha on its own. There's absolutely no need to porting features from another system into Hero. In fact Hero can do everything that Mekton can, and a whole lot more.

 

Don't hate though...I'm a huge Mekton fan and a fan of Interlock in general. But lets keep the systems seperate...they are far too different to integrate very well...early versions of Fuzion pretty much proved this.

Bubblegum Crisis or Bubblegum Crash? Older but really really good anime with Mechs and Powersuits. :thumbup:

I actually have Bubblegum Crisis, Bubblegum Crisis 2040, Bubblegum Crash and AD Police. I could see it as a campaign.....

 

I have Crisis, Crisis 2040, and the AD Police manga. It has some great stuff in it.

I picked up the entire run for 2040 for $40.00... I'm hopping I didn't get ripped off. I haven't seen it yet aside from the 1st few episodes.

 

I picked up 2040, Crisis and Crash all at the same time for somewhere around $60 from a guy liquidating his Anime last summer. So I watched the entire thing in one marathon viewing.

 

Which means they all sorta run together in my mind. I do remember I liked Crisis better than Crash (by box color :D ) but I can't remember the details of why :ugly: .

Just as a quick rule (liberally borrowed from Fuzion *ignoring the wails of horror*) I have found the conversion for Kills to Body (13+ Kills) to be largely workable as well as DC= Kills damage+ 13 and SP+ 13= DEF. It does break down at the x10 and x100 scale point though. I'm still trying to find a decent solution for that.

Anyway, I generally stat things up in Mekton Z then Hero-ize it.

 

In any case, once you've statted up a few examples it's easy enough to handwave variations and models. Maybe this version has a few more points of DEF or Body but sacrifices Dex. Or whatever. Make your builds, give 'em a combat test, and assign them to your players.

Yeah, as far as Gundam is concerned, I'd place the typical Beam Rifle at around 6D6 RKA Penetrating. (average damage 21 body). Typical defenses would be 18 to 21. Gundarium starting at around Def 23+. Body scores would range between 25 and 30. (a body of 25 and a Def of 20 would require an attack capable of dishing out 45 body, at least an 8D6 or 24DC to destroy it in one shot...and thats not even complete destruction. Complete destruction would require 70 body or at least a 12D6K or a 36DC attack!)
