Favorite Fixes to 4th or 5th Ed. Organizations

Agent X

Recommended Posts

I brought up on another thread that I used the COIL mutates as the leadership of Viper in my campaign and ditched the King Arthur connections with King Cobra. It got some positive reactions so I was wondering:

What have you done to any of the Organizations that you thought were improvements?

One major change I made was availabale was to actually make VIPER goons dangerous. Then the VIPER book came out, and then it was no longer a change.

Of course, the game I run does not take place in the C.U. - so I have all of my own villians and organizations.

But what I *really* want to know, Agent X, is did you truly make over 900 posts inside of one month, or did you get your previous post count transfered to the new boards? And if so, how do I do it? I was in the 500 club once...

I don't really know what happened. I just got a little... "obsessive" and had to write about anything and everything. My wife and I both work and she goes to school (actually I do to - I'm a teacher) and we have a toddler so I don't get out much.

Well, I described the changes I made to Raven in the "Bored" thread elsewhere on this forum, so I won't, um, bore anyone with repeating it here.

Like Enforcer84, I removed the technology from DEMON and made Demonspawn into the "supervillain" branch of the group. The largest change, though, was making the bulk of the cult resemble the popular notion of the "world wide Satanist conspiracy": members at every level of society, apparently living normal lives but actually worshipping demons; innocents magically brainwashed into serving the cult; children raised to be sacrificed to demons, or hosts for their controlling spirits; and so on. This added a whole level of treachery and corruption to what had previously been a fairly straighforward opponent, plus an aura of paranoia to the PC's encounters with DEMON, since they couldn't be sure who was actually a member of the cult or being controlled by them.

I really enjoyed the Zodiac from Zodiac Conspiracy, but found that the "conspiracy" was somewhat lacking; while they were an intriguing group of characters and a highly effective superteam, they seemed to lack a lot of the support "on the ground" that a group with long-term ambitions of world domination really needed: agents, resources, bases, etc. I decided to give most of the Zodiac members positions of power and influence in their own right, appropriate to their backgrounds. For example, Gemini headed a prestigious law firm with ties to world governments and to organized crime. Scorpio had won the leadership of his ninja clan, putting them at the service of the Zodiac. Pisces had seized the throne of Atlantis. Sagittarius used her modelling agency to recruit "escorts" for the political and economic elite, who seduced damaging secrets from their clients. Cancer commanded a small army of duplicates of himself grown from the fragments of his crashed ship.

PRIMUS/ DEMON

PRIMUS: I had then actually start recruiting lower-powered metahumans. No matter what eventually you will start to run out of applicants when you fight crazed villians with guns that don't work 10% of the time. I also changed their weapons, I wouldn't go out with a gun that doesn't fire 10% of the time, even if it is 11d6.

DEMON: I also got rid of their super-tech. they are about magic, so I gave them more magic. They still have your standard mook with an Assault Rifle or Blaster, but no more Powered Armor with electic nunchaku(stupid) or any super science.

Thank you for calling GENOCIDE...

First thing I did was change the name of Genocide. They've since had several names (mostly purposefully unimaginative government agency names) through the years. In my campaign world, Genocide had extensive governmental influence. That would not have happened with the original monicker ("Senator Johnson, there is a man from Genocide here to see you").

Genocide is "Aegis" (and certainly doesn't have a chess theme). Aegis had some renegades inititiate "Project Genocide"

The Zodiac is actually more of an illuminati group. Only a couple of them actually fight in brawls (for example, Ares is an international arms dealer) but use their powers, if any, in real subtle ways to maintain power and wealth.

Demon is a front organization for the Council of the Chosen (which has also infiltrated most other groups - Viper, UNTIL, Primus, etc). Demon is still tech based and obsessed with magic, but they are more like the lame-o satanist cults you laugh at in that respect. They are backed in this fashion to help keep everyone believe the whole "evil magic satanist" type underworld is a joke while the CoC is the real deal, well hidden from prying eyes.

Primus is pretty much a pencil pushing dept. The military does the real work (with the fancy weapons and soldier enhancing therapies).

Bigest changes I made were to Demon uses magical weapons.

Viper is a bit tough and less of a hero punching bag. The supreme serpet does exist and is running Viper with COIL as his enforcers

King Cobra changed his name to that of a snake god and is still in business. He has his own group of snakemen working with him. He's not nuts at all, the gladiator games were merely a way of making the world thinks he's nuts, thus leaving him alone for the most part.

I never really like PRIMUS so I created my own organization: S.O.U.L.E. Special Operations Unit of Law-Enforcement. They were a federal agency connected to the F.B.I. who actually recruited superheroes to their ranks. I always felt that PRIMUS was too much like someones private little army and I also wanted to have an organization that was more superhero friendly.
