Karmakaze
As requested, I thought I'd pull the conversation from the Quotes thread... This all started with one of my players giving me a 'perfectly ordinary' college freshman, built at 150 points (campaign start standard). Charlemagne (aka Char), in addition to being 'perfectly ordinary', is also the star player of the varsity football team (as a freshman, mind), a straight-A student, etc... So, partially due to some of his backstory, I decided that his mother was similarly 'perfectly ordinary'... Thus was created the 150-point housewife. I never did stat her out specifically... I think someone posted a modified Stepford as a model, but I seem to have missed that one. I've been running a sort of Modern Pulp/Urban Fantasy game. Sarah has gone home for dinner will fellow PC, Char. Sarah's a little clairvoyant, and after getting a odd vibe of of Char's mom, decides to check her aura. GM: There's nothing supernatural per se, but it's like... it's like someone took 150 points to build a housewife. Sarah: (quietly) Aaaaagh! GM: I hit you with zombies, demons and killer nightmares and you don't blink, but a woman actually makes the recipes from the back of Kraft boxes and you freak out? Sarah: It's the banality... the suburbity! I think that would freak me out, too. I think my wife would be freaked by that too. I'd like a housewife like that. I'm trying to imagine what a 150-point housewife would be like. The mind boggles a bit. She'd have Jack of all Trades' date=' Paramedics, and Oratory at the very least.[/quote'] She could also have some housewife super-skills. Imagine a cleaning one (Cosmetic Transform: dirty house to ultra-clean house) or a cooking one (Minor Transform: poor food into culinary feast). She'd be like a lower-pointed version of Belldandy. Or probably more like a Stepford Wife. Come to think of it, how would you write up a Stepford Wife? With Disads up the wazoo. Yeah. Stepford was my first thought on seeing "150 point Housewife" As to how you write one up: Carefully, so as not to make it angry. At a distance helps. They're automatons aren't they? That depends on which version you're talking about. In the original and the book' date=' yes. In the remake, no.[/quote']
Karmakaze
Re: Attack of the 150-point Housewife And a bit more.... Hey now, keep the porn out of it.... As for a 150 point housewife... would she also be able to kick your butt? How does one write up "Owns one man's gonads and keeps them in her purse"? Transform of some sort, I'd imagine... or ego drain? Haven't you read the book? That's one of the things they were created to do' date=' y'know. [/quote'] The NPC was at least partially intended to boggle minds. I had a lot of fun describing the house, and the 'seasonably appropriate decorations' and the matching plates, glasses and napkins, the spotless white carpet in the living room, etc. I didn't actually stat Char's mom up - it didn't seem necessary. The 150 points figure came because it was the starting point level for PCs in that game. I figure she'd also have contacts (PTA, garden club, neighborhood council, etc.), though. My Gods. You stated up Martha Stewart. I'm sorry. I didn't see a reference to SocLim: Criminal Record. OMG! It's the Attack of June Cleaver! Run!! Major Tom Obviously this is Martha early in her career. Easier solution: Buy the hubby as a Follower and give him "Psych Lim: Gonads Kept in Wife's Purse (Very Common, Total)" for 25 points. (Yes, I'm a married man. The wife and I just celebrated our first anniversary, if anyone was wondering...) Martha, I should note, is much more a businesswoman than a housewife. Char's mom really is just a housewife, with no side businesses. She's just... very intense at it. There's a reason, but the players haven't found it out yet. I do know Char's mom at least has Conversation, because she and Sarah had a Conversation-off (Sarah was trying to subtly introduce a topic mom didn't care to discuss) and mom won. ROOKIE! You probably still have it good, you just finished your honeymoon year.... she probably still wears lingerie... Hadn't thought of that build, good idea. 10 years, 2 kids... still have my gonads, but lost the manual, I think my daughters took it while I was singing "I'm a little teapot" at the grocery store, dance and all. So basically' date=' her mom is Martha's target audience.[/quote'] Oh my gods. It's not Martha' date=' it's Kasumi! The talk of the 150 point housewife reminds me of a rather bizzare incident from many years ago in a Champions game I was GMing... the PCs had been tangling with a rather Psych Lim -laden mentalist named "Psi Clone" who desperately wanted to be a brick, not a mentalist. He kept using tech that boosted physical strength and such, but didn't work well (Activation rolls). At one point, they managed to get ahold of the catalog of the place from which he'd been getting his equipment, and went to the address listed on the order form, prepared for battle. They didn't realize that Psi Clone had been getting his stuff from a parallel reality. So when the address turned out to be a tidy little home belonging to a little old lady (only drives her car to church on Sundays, bakes cookies type) they spent the better part of a game session trying to trip her up into admitting that she was some kind of evil technical genius, sneaking off to analyze the cookies she gave them for poisons or mutagenic chemicals or whatever instead of eating them, and so on and so forth. It was... amusing... GAH! You're right! Took you long enough to figure it out.I thought it was Kasumi as soon as I read the phase "150-point Housewife":) Given how big of a Ranma 1/2 fan I am, I feel ashamed I didn't catch this sooner. And, for no one's amusement other than my own, I claim the four thousandth post in this thread! Yay me! -looks around- Dude, work was dull; I need me my fun somehow. Steve
Re: Attack of the 150-point Housewife How would you modify a housewife for different eras or regions? The write-up that Weldun did suffices for 20th century America. Would there be regional differences? Would a Japanese housewife be any different than an American one? How would a 25th century housewife be different? Or a 5th century one?
