Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine

I've created a series of characters I'd like to share. It's Hero Factory though.

These were all made to have some generic characters at hand. The names were chosen to be fun and light-hearted mostly.

Air Fox One: power armor & flight

Arcania: magic caster

Here's my 2nd attempt at Dolphin Rider. I decided to go with a teen-age looking type model because Dolphin Rider is a 150 point Mystic, so I felt that model better represented her. Any ways here is a newer version of Dolphin Rider.

The 2nd image is one I did on my own. Here's some her background. I never did around to finishing the character, nor writing a sheet for her.

Background

Claudia laid back in the bathtub, a glass of wine in one hand, and the shard in the other. She did her best to forget, to forget about Johan. Johan Erickson who had been her best friend, her lover, her partner, in the study of Norse mythology, and who was the man who destroyed her life. His smiling face swam in front of her like a dear memory, a poisoned memory. Claudia took another gulp of wine to purge the memory. The heat from the water relaxed Claudia, as if anything could.

Claudia put down the wine glass on the edge of the tub, not really caring if the wine spilled or not. Over the past few days it was growing harder and harder to care about anything. Claudia stared intently at the shard. It had once been part of a sword. No one in the research group could date the metal, let alone identify its composition. The shard wasn't iron, or any other metal as far as they could tell. Strange runes, possibly Nordic, possibly something unknown, ran up and down both sides of the shard. For all the strangeness of the shard, Claudia thought it was beautiful. Johan had called it the find of the century. Claudia couldn't but grimace at that memory. Another gulp of wine helped with that.

Claudia, along with Johan, were students of Norse studies at the University of Reykjavik, under Professor Olaf Siguardsson, a noted expert in the field. The lovers had been the professors' primary researchers. It was Johan who discovered the existence of a hitherto unknown temple dedicated to an equally unknown Norse deity far out in the wilds of Iceland. Claudia had made mad passionate love to Johan that night when he had shown her the ancient seal skins that told of the temple. Another gulp of wine. Hmm. The glass was getting empty. Easily put right.

The trip to the temple was difficult; Iceland is a harsh land, not easily giving up her secrets. It was just the three of them in a crawler that first spied the ruins. It took another hour hiking along a crevasse filled with sharp rocks at the bottom before they reached their goal. The memory made Claudia take another gulp of wine.

The temple ruins weren't like any that the three researchers were used to. It definitely wasn't dedicated to Odin, Thor, or Frey. Precious little in the way of artifacts were found. However, runes decorated almost every wall. It was Claudia who had found the sword shard on the altar. Johan was so excited that he grabbed it away from her. The shard made a small cut in Claudia's finger that bleed painful and profusely. Johan didn't seem to notice. His eyes were only for the shard.

The three of them had stayed in the temple for a week documenting, and recording all they could. The weather outside had turned ugly, and the professor had decided to return again when the weather permitted. Johan was reluctant to leave, but Claudia eventually convinced him that in fact they would return.

It was on the way back that the weather turned very bad. Claudia shuddered in her bath remembering the cold, another sip of wine. The trio was about three hours away from the temple when disaster struck; the crawler died. Outside the world had turned white, and the wind screamed like a tortured soul; total white out. It was Professor Olaf who first got out to check on the motor, and few minutes later Johan got out as well. Trying to stay warm Claudia bundled up in the back. She must have fallen asleep, for the next she knew the crawler was moving again. Claudia woke, and peered over the back of the seat. Professor Olaf wasn't in sight; Johan was behind the controls.

"Where's the professor?" asked Claudia.

At first Johan wouldn't answer his eyes were only on the path in front of the crawler.

In a strained voice Johan said, "I lost him. When I got out of the crawler, I couldn't see him in all the driving snow. I called out his name, but my words were thrown back in my teeth by the wind. I was able to get the motor to work again, but I didn't see Olaf. When we get back to town, we'll get search and rescue out here."

Claudia accepted what she had been told. She didn't notice the bruise on Johans' face; she was so distraught over the professors' disappearance. Nor did she notice the shard clutched tightly in his right hand.

They were almost back to town when Johan attacked her. It was so sudden, that he almost succeeded. It was only the thickness of her clothes that protected Claudia from the shard wielded by Johan. He just turned and started stabbing at her like a madman. Claudia was able to fight back, and a lucky kick to Johans' gut took the fight out of him. Or it could've been that the shard came out of his hand. Without thinking Claudia scooped up the shard and fled out into the storm.

It felt like hours before she was able to get to her home near the university. Claudia knew that Johan would be after her and locked the house up tight. Oddly enough he didn't. Claudia was afraid to leave home, knowing that at any time Johan might attack her again. For a week Claudia stayed in. It was a week later that the police showed up asking questions.

Professor Olaf had been found. He was certainly dead, and to make matters worse Johan had told the police that she was the one who was responsible for the professors' death. He said that the professor and Claudia had argued, and when the professors' back was turned she had struck him from the behind with a knife, leaving him for dead in the blizzard. Claudia knew the police believed Johan; he could charm the birds from the trees, another big gulp of wine. While the police couldn't prove that Claudia killed the professor, she knew it would only be a matter of time.

Claudia lay down her empty wine glass; the bottle was empty as well. Again she pondered the shard. The past was closed to her, and painful too. It was to be about release she sought with the shard. It didn't even hurt, as the edge of the shard dug into the flesh of her wrists. In a way it was like a lovers kiss. Blood flowed freely and profusely from the wounds. Soon the bath water turned crimson, and it over flowed the bathtub running across the bathroom like a river. Claudia couldn't help but watch the scarlet stream as if she were far far away.

Claudia walked along the bloody river, without a care in the world. The dead care nothing of the world. The landscape around the river of blood would've horrified most people, with it's trees like bony fingers, a sky of perpetual gloom, but again the dead take no notice of the world around them.

Claudia didn't know how long she walked; time was meaningless in this place along the river. Eventually she found the bridge, and the dog, Garm.

Thanks, one of these days I'll get Helsdottir finished. As for WW, she's a parady of Wonder Woman, but I couldn't find any ropes on Fabrica.

Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine

suikoden.png

Suikoden

Background

Cybernetic Organism #845-J, code named Suikoden placed his white stone on the Go board, and then returned to the proper position while he awaited Cybernetic Organism #348-X code named Kijo to make his move. Suikoden’s cybernetic eye studied his opponent for changes in breathing rate, pulse change, and variations in temperature. Kijo placed his black stone and just as quickly resumed his proper position. A low mechanical chuckle emitted from the place where his face used to be; it being replaced entirely by a cybernetic substitute.

“Try as you might Kenji,” said Kijo, “You can never defeat me at Go.”

To this Suikoden made a slight bow to his opponent. For years now since Suikoden and Kijo had been officially retired by the Mistuhari Mega-Corporation the two had met at the Fallen Blossom Inn once a week to play Go. Try as he might, Suikoden never could beat Kijo.

Both cyborgs had an illustrious careers fighting for Mistuhari during the Corporate Wars. But now the wars were over and the big three Mistuhari, Suzushima, and the Akahama Corporations ruled the breadth and width of Mega-Tokyo and the surrounding country side which used to be known as Japan. Neither had been summoned to active duty for some time.

Today things were going to change thought Suikoden. Today, I’ll beat this pompous cyborg. It was when Suikoden was just about to surround Kijos' last piece that all Yomi broke loose. The room started shaking, and what little furniture in the room was falling over.

In an instant the two samurai cyborgs were on their metallic feet at the alert.

“An earthquake?” asked Kijo as he scanned the room.

“Impossible,” replied Suikoden, “The Mistuhari Corporation installed the Tectonic Controllers centuries ago. Earthquakes do not occur anymore. Wait, I’ve just received communications from the SecDep. We’re to report for duty at once.”

Both cyborgs looked at one another. It had been years since they had been summoned by SecDep. Kijo hefted his huge tetsubo, while Suikoden retrieved his katana from the proprietress of the inn and they both quickly traveled across Mega-Toyko to the headquarters of the Mistuhari Corporation and SecDep. A smile crossed Suikodens' face as the two cyborgs entered the trans-tube that would take them to level 64 and the offices of SecDep; it had been a long long time for the cyborg.

In SecDep, they bowed deeply to Supervisor Yoshio, and his assistant Researcher Miwako. Quickly Researcher Miwako explained that the Akahama Corporation was in the process of violating the Accord of 2145, in that Akahama was doing temporal research. It was believed by Mistuhari that Akahama was developing a Temporal Bomb that would not only destroy Mistuhari, but erase the corporation from history itself. This was totally unacceptable.

However, Supervisor Yoshio felt that a sudden strike to the Akahama laboratory by Suikoden and Kijo would eliminate the threat. The supervisor felt that the two cyborgs would work better than a more conventional attack, in that Akahama would be unprepared for their outdated hardware.

An hour later, Suikoden and Kijo were standing next to a secret vent that according to SecDep would take them to the hidden Akahama laboratory. Both knew that the laboratory would probably be guarding by Attack Drones, and WarBots, but they knew that honor demanded that they destroy the Temporal Bomb before it could be put to use or die trying. It was simple for Suikoden to remove the vent cover and shortly they were sneaking into the Akahama laboratory.

Things didn’t go as planned, because before either of them were able to lay a cybernetic hand on the bomb, Attack Drones, and WarBots came pouring into the lab. Back to back Suikoden and Kijo fought. Suikoden would slash an Attack Drone to pieces while Kijo would smash a WarBot with his tetsubo. However, no matter how valiantly the pair destroyed their enemies more and more replaced the fallen machines. It was after Kijo was knocked to his knees and was struggling to rise that Suikoden made his decision. He knew that they both were going to die here, but he wasn’t going to let Akahama use their bomb.

Turning with inhuman speed, Suikoden raised his cybernetic arm and flung his katana at the Temporal Bomb. With the straightness of an arrow in flight the sword flew into the machinery of the Temporal Bomb. For a heart beat nothing happened, and then came the explosions. Grateful for accomplishing his task, Suikoden sank to his knees to cradle Kijo in their final moments. Explosions ripped through the lab destroying everything left and right. Attack Drones were shredded and WarBots destroyed. And through it all Suikoden didn’t even care. He had succeeded. He was prepared to die.

However, Suikoden didn’t die. A powerful wave of energy burst forth from the ruined machine enveloping the two cyborgs. Like a powerful wind it buffeted them, and try as he might, Suikoden couldn’t hold onto his friend, and Kijo was lost in the maelstrom. Unknown to either cyborg the destruction of the Temporal Bomb had unleashed a wave of temporal particles and Suikoden was torn from his time sent hurtling into the distant past. As for Kijo, Suikoden never saw him again.

It was a dinged up cyborg that came crashing head first into a tree in Hibiya Park in modern day Tokyo. Staggering back, Suikoden quickly fell back into a pond. The ducks that had been swimming in the pond quickly vacated the vicinity. Standing up Suikodens' head hurt and he was sopping wet. And to make matters worse someone was laughing at him. Turning with as much dignity as he could muster he saw a young woman looking at him pointing and struggling to control her laughter.

Later he was to learn her name was Miwako Akahama. For Suikoden, he thought it might be destiny to meet up with an ancestor of a founder of the Akahama Corporation. Since being sent back almost a hundred fifty years, Suikoden has made a place for himself as a crime fighter. However, he still misses his weekly Go games at the Fallen Blossom Inn, and especially his comrade Kijo.

Personality

Suikoden is an anachronism. On one hand he comes from a far distant future, but on the other he’s a samurai in every sense of the word. Most people don’t understand him, and he has a lot of trouble understanding them.

Being a cyborg Suikoden struggles constantly with his humanity versus the cybernetic implants. He doesn’t smile or laugh much, but can get a joke on occasion. It’s during combat or during a heated game of Go that it seems that his humanity is submerged with the technical creature that he is. At these times he can be quite aggressive, and careless about taking physical damage. When calmed down this machine-like feeling goes away.

Suikoden is an honorable warrior. He gives what he’s given. He never strikes from surprise or at an opponents back. However, those who abuse his honor quickly learn from their mistake. At times Suikoden will even offer to let his opponents surrender before attacking.

Quote

"Both the victor and the vanquished are but drops of dew, but bolts of lightning, thus should we view the world.”

Powers

Suikoden is a cybernetic organism. As such his cybernetics grant him super-human strength and speed. His frame is armored with cybernetics, which protects him from all sorts of attacks. His cyber-eye lets him see into the infrared spectrum while his cyber-ear acts as a powerful sonar.

Suikoden is also a master of two different martial arts: Neo-Kenjutsu, and Karate. For his sword fighting, Suikoden is armed with a razor sharp katana, which he excels in using with Neo-Kenjutsu. When disarmed or without his blade, Suikoden can rely on his training in karate to get him out of any jam.

Appearance

It is obvious to anyone seeing Suikoden that he’s a cyborg. Very little flesh actually is apparent. The rest is cybernetics. His left arm is of flesh, as is the right side of his face. It looks like he’s wearing armor, but actually it’s his cybernetics. Suikoden wears a green kimono with golden vines climbing up the sleeves. On his cybernetic feet he wears traditional sandals. Wrapped around his waist is a white obi, in which the scabbard of his sword is thrust.

The left side of his head is completely cybernetic, the eye being a red orb. The human half has a brown eye. Suikoden still grows hair and keeps his in a wild mane that reaches to his shoulders.
