Title Tag Returns!

Recommended Posts

It's been a while since we had one of these threads, I hope you'll be ready for another round.

The idea is that three titles for potential superhero game plot seeds are given. Pick one, write a few paragraphs (or more) about the plot seed, then provide a new title so that the list is back up to three. You can use the generic Champions Universe, or specify what sort of heroes would be best for the scenario.

And here's our starting list!

1. The Corpse Who Kills

2. The Best Opposite Day Ever!

3. Darkness In Paradise

Have fun!

Re: Title Tag Returns!

The Best Opposite Day Ever!

The PCs suddenly experience a huge whack of extraordinary good luck. An illness or disability (or Vulnerability/Suscenptibility) of a PC or someone close to him mysteriously disappears; one of them receives a financial windfall; another makes a dramatic breakthrough on the invention he's been hopelessly tinkering with for years; the unavailable romantic interest a PC has been pining for abruptly expresses feelings for him; the villain who's plagued them for so long is finally defeated. The heroes feel on top of the world.

Then they discover that at the same time, an NPC or DNPC close to the heroes, perhaps even one of the PCs, encounters an equally dramatic downturn in fortune. If he has a Secret ID, it's revealed; he's accused of crimes, arrested and/or his reputation ruined; his finances are wiped out; he or someone close to him becomes seriously ill or injured.

Some unknown force appears to be at work, shifting the normal balance of good and bad luck/fate/karma between the characters. Has some enemy of the heroes chosen to harm them by blessing them at the expense of an innocent they care about? Or is it one of them somehow causing this to happen involuntarily? Can they find the cause? And what will they do if they learn helping their friend will undo all the benefits they've gained?

Okay, next title: I Never Studied Law (of Physics)

Re: Title Tag Returns!

Darkness in Paradise

An emissary from another dimension arrives to seek the heroes' help. For centuries, his home world has been a utopia, free of disease and crime and conflict. This has been possible due to a condition somewhat like a group mind: Whatever harm one person feels, all feel. Not everybody is 100% happy with this -- it applies to accidental injuries as well -- but most have enjoyed the peace that came along with it.

Recently a dimensional traveller (perhaps a fugitive foe of the PCs) stopped there and introduced a way to block the group mind effect in select members of the populace. He has found enough disgruntled individuals to gain a sizable cadre of allies and plans to take over the world. Can the heroes help stop him and restore the peace?

Current titles (including new):

1. The Corpse Who Kills

2. I Never Studied Law (of Physics)

3. You Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Happy

Re: Title Tag Returns!

You Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Happy

At seemingly random locations of a city, super powered rampages are spontaneously arising. One woman says "Yes" to a long hoped for proposal only to suddenly catch fire and burn down the restaurant she was in as she laughs like a maniac. A graduating class at a high school is abruptly beset by a windstorm generated produced by one of the students. An 8 year old girl wins a stuffed animal at a local fair and then changes into an eight foot tall behemoth that begins knocking rides and stalls over as it cavorts with the newly gained toy in one hand! All over the city, severe happiness leads to chaos as certain people transform or gain powers they can not and (for the time) do not want to control in their happiness. It wears off, but it is clear it could happen again.

A mastermind sends a message to the local news agencies that it is HIS doing, and the antidote shall not be released until he is paid billions of dollars. The heroes must either find the antidote or make it themselves. They have to capture the mastermind...BUT, their biggest challenge maybe keeping everyone in the city in a state of NOT BEING HAPPY for as long as they can until the cure can be administered.

I Never Studied Law (of Physics)

A new team of super-powered thugs has hit Campaign City. The good news is that they're kind of stupid, so it's easy to outwit them. The bad news is that their power is basically ignoring the laws of physics. They don't fall unless they look down, they can fly if they flap their arms fast enough, normal inertia effects have no bearing on their ability to turn or stop, etc. It appears to be a hypnotic effect that is imposing itself on reality, but what sort of mentalist has that kind of power?

And you'd better figure out how to stop them before they figure out they've got holes in their pockets!

The Corpse Who Kills

After Joe Sindona woke up in the morgue, he was not a happy camper. After a hitman came after him to finish the job in the hospital, he was even less happy. Now Sindona is armed with the gun he took from dead man he left behind and he's got a list of people he suspects might have put out a contract on him. He feels no pain, shrugs off almost any injury, and whether he's really dead or some kind of immortal mutant, he figures that's it's better to kill a hundred innocent men than let the guilty party go free.

Re: Title Tag Returns!

Silence Like a Cancer

It starts as a spot, just a small spot in the city no bigger than your average marble. You can't see this spot, you can't feel it, and you can't hear it. But if you are very observant, you can NOT hear it. No sound exists in this spot, and that would be just an oddity for scientists to explore if it weren't for the fact that every day, it increases in size, doubling or tripling as it does! Mystics will realize there is something otherworldly about this phenomenon, and those willing to study the local history will find that the parking lot where this abnormality is taking place once had a house here. That , however, was 44 years ago, and the building in question burned down when a group of suspected Satanists had a secret gathering in that house that went horribly awry. The only firefighter who managed to make it in came out with his sanity shattered. The only words he spoke, COULD speak, were "Hannu... Lord of Silent Screams. Hannu."

And, should one of the heroes go to the spot and utter this ? Why, THAT phrase, and only that phrase, can be heard. All other things spoken, all other sounds, are as dead...

and like a cancer, it grows. And it will keep growing, until it covers the earth, and a mystic entity from a silent dimension expands his dominion.

OR unless our heroes can stop this... somehow.

The B Team!

They're the city's foremost heroes, banded together into an unstoppable team that has kept it safe for years. And now they're gone. Nobody knows when or if they'll come back from their mission to help save the entire world, but when they do, it'll be to a looted and ruined city as old enemies take the opportunity to come out of hiding without opposition. It's up to the B Team, the scrappy underdogs who never made the cut, to band together and try to fill the vacuum. This could be the launch of a new PC group, or just a break from playing your old characters, that might lead to a line-up reshuffle.

For Joy in the Dark Forever

Professor John Bumbling Smith has finally found the answer behind the accelerated expansion on the Universe! He has found a way to tap into the mysterious "Dark Matter" / "Dark Energy." There are only two problems: the Dark Matter is sentient and it is depressed by light. And regular matter. So it now wants to destroy the Earth. And the Moon. And the Sun. Hell, it wants to destroy the whole galaxy.

But how do you stop something that can disrupt gravity and force stuff apart?

A Funny Thing Happened at the Kiss Concert

(I couldn't resist a title like that :) ) The concert hasn't started yet. The opening bands left the stage long ago, and now the crowd is getting restless.

Backstage, a member of the band has gone missing. Peter Criss, aka The Cat Man, is gone. A massive search is interrupted when a stagehand screams and runs past the rest of the crew. His clothes are shredded and he's bleeding heavily. Looking in the direction he came from, the searchers see a massive white tiger slowly approaching. The tiger has some very unusual, yet familiar, markings on his face. As the band and the crew try to subdue the enormous cat, they notice another absence. Gene Simmons, aka The Demon, is missing now.

A rumble goes through the arena...

Re: Title Tag Returns!

We're on a Road to Nowhere

VIPER (or some other high tech villain organization) grows tired of superheroic interference, and decides to test a device while at the same time getting rid of the heroes once and for all. Be it at a rally, or in an alley, they arrange for the superheroes to be bombarded with a modulating dimensional frequency. At first, the heroes may not even realize they've vanished from their Earth. The changes are slight...maybe their breakfast choice was different that morning. But every hour or so, they find themselves pushed to yet another alternate universe with more and more drastic changes to the timeline or history from ours. Forget about 'What if the Nazis won?' , in a few days they may find themselves running from the forces of intelligent Velociaraptors wearing Inca head dresses and wielding laser pistols!

Time for the resident super genius to figure out a way to shake off this multidimensional harmonic and get them home, and if the the heroes can't figure it out, they best find someone who can and will.

Let It Snow

(Best for low-powered heroes)

It looks like a bleak winter for the Gurwitzky Ski Resort. Nearly a month into the season, and no snow has fallen onto their land! Their antiquated snow machines have kept the place from closing down entirely, but now those machines have broken...all at the same time! Weird thing is, all the other ski resorts in the area have been getting plenty of snow. The mortgage is coming due, and the upcoming weekend is a major one that could make or break Old Man Gurwitzky and his pretty daughter (or whatever sympathy-inducing family situation the GM prefers.) As a last resort, they turn to the heroes. How is this happening? Who or what is responsible? Can our heroes get the resort running again in time?

Re: Title Tag Returns!

Meet In the Hall of Planets

NASA asks for the heroes' aid. A strange 'something' has been found in Luna's Orbit, holding position so as to hide from Earth itself. A shuttle is provided, assuming the heroes say yes and they don't already have a space worthy vehcile of their own. Getting there, the team will discover a starbase/space ship the size of a small human city, one that flickers in and out of visibility. It will not be easy to get into by normal means, but if access is gained, it will appear deserted of any intelligent life, but full of security systems left on automatic and robots that seem determined to keep them from a great temple like structure in the center of it all. When the heroes get there, they find a magnificent chamber full of Energy Bubbles the size of basketballs. Each Bubble has markings on it that instantly shift to English (or whatever the hero looking at it speaks) with words like "Detrax" "Denobilia II" "Xarken", and within each bubble is a planet, some how minturized. One energy bubble remains empty, but simply states "Earth"

With no 'owner' of this great ship in obvious view, the heroes are left to ponder many questions, the answers of which are left to the GM's devices.

Re: Title Tag Returns!

My Kingdom for a Horse!

For this scenario, either a PC or DNPC must own a horse. It can be anything from the hero's winged unicorn mount to the comedy relief sidekick's spavined nag, but there must be a horse with some sentiment attached to it. The King of Zydacon, a small but extremely prosperous nation, wants that horse. Why, he won't say, but he wants it so badly he's literally willing to cede his throne to the horse's owner in order to get it. And if for some reason the owner refuses that generous offer, the king will just have to resort to having his personal bodyguard (very scary supermercenary) come and take the horse by force! What's up with that?

Okay, I'll bite. :)

Cell Hell

The nation experiences a wave of "demonic possession" sightings. Starting in small towns near the Campaign City, the sightings have begun to spread across the country. Witnesses swear they see other people, often persons they've known for years, transform before their eyes into the image of devils: horns, tails, hooves, red skin, the works. In most cases the "devils" have been killed by panicked mobs, but when the authorities arrive all they discover is a normal-looking corpse. Despite official denials of anything supernatural occurring, the sightings have sparked growing paranoia, hysteria, pronouncements of the Day of Judgement approaching, rioting, attacks on suspected "devil worshippers," and general chaos.

PC heroes are called in either due to their particular scientific or occult expertise, or their connections to someone who has such expertise. They discover that the bodies of the "devils" show signs of some type of mutative virus or other agent being introduced that caused their change in appearance. Is this the result of some biological accident, or a villain's deliberate creation? It it's deliberate, who's behind it, and why? And can the heroes find a cure, or stop the source of the infection, before the country tears itself apart?

After Doctor Destroyer gave up using Destruga a group of superpowered Outcast took residence there. Hiding from a oppressing Agency/Nation.

During one of the bigger recent Crisises they rallied to the cause of good and got noticed.

Now the People who discriminated against them are trying to take them out/discredit them. The Outcast are getting desperate and are threatening to unleash a leftover superweapon against the offending people. Can your Heroes negotiate a Armistice ? Or help the Outcasts ?

Doom with a view

One of the PCs who has never experienced any sort of psychic ability before, finds him or herself having odd 'attacks' where he is residing in the body of a future murder victim. He can see the killer's gloved hand. He can smell the sweat, and he can hear the scream of the victim. He can even feel the sharpness of the highly unusual knife used for the slaying before finding himself back in his own body. He just can't do anything about it. All his friends will be able to tell is that he passed out for a moment, then woke up again. Mentalist allies will be able to tell him they did see an odd discharge of psychic energy. Mystics will be aware that something powerful is at work here. Every time this happens, it will come to pass in twenty four hours, unless the hero and his friends can stop it. Most of the victims seem to be genuinely good human beings, many involved in charities.

The killer has a high tech blade that can cut through almost anything, and certainly almost anyone, plus very good stealth skills. He is picking the kindest nicest folks he knows to make sure they get to heaven before this wicked wicked world can ruin them. The source of the warning would surprise him. An angel of death (or if you prefer, THE Angel of Death) finds this an abomination of the higher purpose. Alas, he cannot interfere too much in mortal affairs, and the visions are the best he can do to set things right.

Ring of Dragon's Flame

Having followed the regal wizard back across the wall between our dimension and his, the heroes are taken to "the prison". There, they are shown Traxis, a venerable and immense dragon, breathing his fire at a mystic circle, where the flames form a wall from floor to ceiling.

The wizard explains to the heroes, that before them lies a mystic cell, which contains the immortal scion of the dimension's god of battle and a demon. In the distant past, the "Prisoner" was narrowly defeated and then entrapped in the most powerful mystic bindings that could be devised. The benign Traxis has dedicated his life in the service of the people, powering the enchantments.

Alas, the "Prisoner" is an immortal and although dragons live scores of human lifetimes, Traxis is ancient for even his kind and will soon breath his last. The heroes' assistance is needed to protect the people of the wizard's dimension and our own.

Re: Title Tag Returns!

The Blind Date

It started on the internet, as most rumors do. Somebody calling themselves Tiresias started doom-saying about the coming devastation to Enterprise Bay, a day the city would be plunged into the darkest abyss. His incoherent ramblings became a minor sensation as the date he predicted got closer and closer. Then it happened. On March 17th, the city went dark. Not only did lights go out, but even the light of the sun was repelled by the city. It was near total darkness. Naturally, panic ensued, and by the time the light returned the next day, the city was indeed devastated.

Tiresias disappeared. Until now. And he predicts the darkness of the abyss shall fall over Campaign City in two weeks...

The villain behind it all is a darkness wielder using some new technology to amplify his powers. He can cast city-wide darkness domes for 24 hours. They don't cause any damage, but the same can't be said for the horror-stricken, rioting public.

Is there something else going on in the darkness? Is he building up his own terrorist agenda? What is he really up to?

Statues, famous trees, historical markers, and other items of historic/community signifagance are being stolen. In their place the thieves are leaving small replicas of famous European monuments. Is this a threat to the conferance? Is one of the already arrived diplomats doing it? Or is the European Connection a smoke screen?

From the Mind of a Child

When an innocent boy is about to be sacrificed to a demon summoning ritual, his life maybe saved by the superheroes, but it seems they are too late to save his mind. A mystic (Either a PC or a guest NPC) informs them that since the boy's sanity was broken by magic, it can be cured by magic as well IF they are willing. The heroes find themselves transported into the nightmare world of the boy's imagination shaped by demonically induced insanity. Teddy Bears with chainsaws and glowing red eyes. Mother and Father transformed into monsters instead of protectors. A maze of confusion and horror, and somewhere in this maze are five pieces of the boy's soul. They must be gathered, put back together, and then cleansed or the boy is lost...forever.

Re: Title Tag Returns!

We All Scream For Ice Cream

In the middle of the hottest day of summer, a ferocious snow storm suddenly blankets the city. The temperature plunges to a life-threatening low; whiteout conditions and slickened roads cause massive traffic accidents; ice-covered power lines snap, plunging the city into darkness and cold. Meteorologists are baffled as to the cause, save that the center of the extremely localised disturbance appears to be several miles outside the city. PC heroes rush to the scene, where they discover a gigantic... cow?

Audumla, the primordial divine beast of Norse myth, has somehow wandered into Earth from Niffleheim, the realm of cold and mist. Perhaps the trickster-god Loki, or the Frost Giants, led her here to cause chaos, or as a distraction from some other objective; perhaps it was mere accident. In any case, as in legend virtual rivers of milk flow from her teats, spreading into ice, snow, and bitter cold.

Audumla appears frightened and confused, but in no way aggressive. She is in fact a usually placid cow, which just happens to be 200 feet tall and the cause of a crisis. Will the heroes try to bring her under control peacefully, or use force? If Audumla is harmed, would the Norse gods be angered and seek revenge? And if she is being used as a distraction, from what?
