The dimness was intermittently broken up by faintly glowing motes that languidly drifted through the air like dandelion seeds. Mist hung low enough to hug the earth and rose high enough to conceal the sky. Across the moist sprawl of wild grass came a man. This man was built large, standing close to six-and-a-half feet tall with corded muscles that were prominent on his dusky features that spoke of a south Central Asian heritage...maybe Afghani, but also likely Pakistani or even Indian. He wore a thick curly mustache that extended beyond the edge of his lips and an equally full shoulder length mane of jet black wavy hair. His clothing was minimal but rugged: a large folded triangle of brown fabric that served as a loincloth, a thin leather vest tightened with laces along his torso that sported gaps large enough to reveal his considerable pectorals and surprisingly ornate boots featuring pointed tips that jutted slightly upward. In his hands was a lengthy rod of metal that ended in a knobbed sphere larger than his head. More than anything else, however, his eyes were honed to pinpoints of determination and his mouth was held shut in anticipation.

As he continued to move across this expanse of vegetation, the dark silhouettes of trees some distance away became evident. Each footfall was a flat but definite thud. A face which had been coarsened by the sight of many battles slowly panned to and fro in observation of the surroundings, obscured as they were.

Before long, the man abruptly stopped and looked ahead. Directly to his front was a circle of ancient stone. The edge of the circle rose up three or so feet. Within the circle was still nearly transparent water that came close to halfway up the height of the "walls". This was a fountain.

To cement this fact, there was a statue in the center atop a solid cube of the same stone. This sculpture was a study in classic feminine features, with hips wide and healthy complimenting full medium-sized breasts. In fact, she was completely nude. Only what looked like a narrow towel or perhaps a sarong draped between her twin signs of fertility trailed down long enough to cover both navel and her most intimate womanhood. Her pose was one of exaltation - the middle of a dance? - mixed with supplication. One arm across her upper abdomen clutched the rendition of fabric while the other extended to reach for the heavens.. Like the man, her hair was thick, though it was straight and reached down to barely grace her posterior. Her face was more round than angular and it bore an expression of deep longing.

Before the moment could continue to grow in solemnity, a noise began to build. As this auditory intrusion made itself known, the mist above the fountain parted and silent moonbeams cast themselves across the area until the structure and some grass beyond it were starkly illuminated in the light of the night. Soon enough, the source of the sound ceased to be a mystery. The pool of water at first gently rippled, but now it swirled around the center as if it were a gentle eddy in a stream. Gentleness gave way to certain rapidity and that same rapidity persisted for scant seconds before it grew into a ferocious whirlpool that caused the water to rise high and splash a little onto the grass. What had begun as a comparatively minor lapping of waves was now the full roar of an ocean.

Without warning, there was an explosion...no, an eruption...from the spiraling torrents. It originated from the direction the female statue and man both faced. From this spray of water also came something else at a high speed. The "something" leaped several meters into the air in a stiff trajectory before landing heavily on the ground. What came next was also a study, but one of monstrosity. It was humanoid in a very vague sense and close to eight feet in height. There was no skin as befitting a human, but rather a layer of scales so tiny and tightly woven as to appear a wetly silver that was occasionally broken up by mottled shades of marine gray. The head pointed forward in a gigantic false grin of wickedly serrated teeth. Above this maw was a set of beady black eyes that were positioned far apart like that of a hammerhead shark. From the top of its head to the bottom of its back was a wide flap strangely reminiscent of a manta ray. There were two arms and each one sported a hand...though these were obscenely broad and each digit was spindly bone that ended in curved claws that each were as formidable as any knife. Finally, there was no sign of this being's sex - be it male or female - and its legs were pillars of piscine sinew which ended in webbed feet that flexed to grab the dirt.

With a war cry that was all thunder, the man raised the blunt weapon above his head and charged full-tilt towards the aquatic horror. The monster countered with a bestial otherworldly shriek while lurching forward to meet this warrior.

"Into each life some rain must fall, but too much, too much is fallin' in mine."
In this adventure seed, we have a little bit of fun with the old phrase about April Flower. April Flowers turns disaster example from the core book into a one shot adventure where you can both as the Brood and as heroes.
