Re: Help Poplulate: Pirate Ship edition

No one thought much of the 15 year old cabin boy known as "Tom". Although, some crewmembers thought he looked kind of girly. That is until they found out that it was a girl named "Annabelle" who had cut her blond hair. Since, then she has had the run of the ship under the care of the 1st mate Okumba. And everyone knows "Don't mess with Annabelle, unless you wish the wrath of Okumba."

She has proven to be fond of the practical joke. Though, not all her clever jokes are immediately revealed. One case is the fact after noticing that Gimpy and Isabella clearly hated each other, she got the idea to switch their food when they arent looking. Though, she cant quite figure out why Gimpy is always crying about bellyaches. She also found a stow away she sneaks food to.

It seems she is in reality, the captain's illegitimate daughter, who had come in search of him. When he discovered the truth, he put her under Okumba's care knowing she'd be safest under him

Dead Pete. The Parrot.

No one keeps a parrot on board any more. The old one is still there. He's dead, but he's still there.

He died in a fierce battle. The sails caught fire, and collapsed upon him. Trapped, Pete was burned alive.

He's still there. All the crew sees him from time to time. He no longer sports bright colors but feathers blacked and burnt, shedding ash when he flutters over head.

Dead Pete doesn't speak anymore, he just screams. Though some claim he does speak, but only on the eve before battle. At midnight Pete will land and softly say, "Who will burn with me?"

Once a parrot was brought on board. It was found dead the next morning, burnt to a crisp. No one has dared to try this again.

Every Pirate ship has to have a parrot. Not even death can keep Dead Pete from the job.

Okumba must have his hands full personally protecting half of the crew...

He's a bad @$$. LOL. (yeah, I didnt realize it until you just mentioned it, he is starting to get a little too much attention)

(Note: After reading Chavez and Gimpy, I just had to find away to turn the tables on hapless Gimpy though:sneaky:

An undead pirate? Oh my Lord!

Note: Maybe, Pete the cat should be changed to Live Pete.

The Spaniard carpenter.

One of the only non-fighting men aboard, his youthful looks belie the knowledge and skill with which he keeps the ship patched together and working. That skill is what holds him as a prized crew member even though he refuses to take the life of another. This fact isn't well known and isn't talked about, not in his presence anyway. Though he does show an unnatural aversion to blood, he has been known to set a confrontation to rights with a blow from a mallet.

During a raid or once ashore he'll disappear into the wilds unless there's some duty to be attended to on the ship. They say that past captains have sent out men to try and follow him, but none has ever returned. Somehow he's always back aboard before the ship sets sail.

Aboard, he keeps to his workshop and considers it his private cabin, a luxury enjoyed by none other than the captain. Scuttlebutt has it that he performs rituals in there and has the finger of a saint in a jar. The shop does contain some religious icons, some of the crew like to claim that he once served as a priest with Ponce de Leon on an expedition, this is ridiculous because anyone that had would dead of old age twice over by now. The Spaniard doesn't confirm or deny any rumors, in fact he barely speaks. He communicates what he needs to with grunts. He's often heard muttering under his breath in Spanish, it sounds like prayers and scriptures.

Ted Brown isn't exactly a fearsome pirate name. But Ted isn't exactly a fearsome pirate. Bespectacled and bookish, Ted reads from his bible every day. But when his duty calls, he fights like a lion. He's loyal to his captain and treats his fellow crew mates with respect. He's handsome and something of a rake (he reads the bible, doesn't really follow it) and has a girl in many ports. He saw what happened to Gimpy and isn't ready to test the former cook.

Ted is a very strong swimmer and something of a cartographer. He sells maps to various places and treasures.

The Bosun known only as The Turk

The story of how he got to the Atlantic from the Turkish Empire is a long and tangled story. What can be said of the barrel chested man is he cruel and sadistic towards any captured. To such an extent, that his reputation proceeds him. Often, when a hapless merchant ship realizes to whom they are attacked by will fight to the death and on occasion even commit suicide to avoid what might become of them.

As bosun, he has come to consider himself "owner" of the ship. He is loyal to his superiors of course to an extent (as long as they have proven worthy to lead of course). But, the ship is ultimately his in his own mind.

Since Gimpy's demotion The Turk has become increasingly repulsed by him often calling Gimpy names in his native tongue normally reserved for prostitutes and women of ill repute. (poor Gimpy)

Dr. Jonas Burns

Dr. Burns found himself under misfortunate circumstances. He was on a ship attacked by pirates. (these pirates). Upon finding he was a doctor, they took him hostage. He has made the most of it. Given his skills as a surgeon, and knowing it could mean life and death. The crew have grown to respect their hostage. Even voting him a share, if he should be willing to become a part of the crew. The longer he has stayed the more he becomes willing, be damned the consequences. He is a doctor to save lives, even pirate lives.

Edit: Changed last name

Re: Help Poplulate: Pirate Ship edition

His name is Arthur Kennedy. He's tall and almost inhumanly slim, and wears a patch over most of the very nasty scar where his left eye used to be. His remaining eye has very excellent night vision, so the captain has given him the duty of manning the helm during the darkest part of the night. In that capacity he has shown better skill than many other helmsmen have shown during the day. During raids, he has also demonstrated reasonable skill with both cutlass and flintlock. While the captain addresses him as Mister Kennedy, most of the crew refer to him as the Midnight Helmsman, and a couple of them have even made up a drinking song in his honor.
