megaplayboy
I'm throwing this out there for suggestions and ideas. Basically, I had in mind the creation of an organized crime syndicate that is international in scope, and whose "name" figures/members all happen to be famous fictional gangsters/mobsters from film, television and other fiction. The only figure I've come up with, so far, is Enrico "Little Ceasar" Banducci(played by Edward G. Robinson) from the movie of the same name. Some basic ground rules I'm working with: 1. Five "families" broken up by region--East US, West US, Mexico/S.America/Caribbean, Europe, and either Africa or Asia(there's a separate Asian crime syndicate, so I'm leaning towards Africa, though they could be rivals) 2. One "big boss" per family, then several regional bosses 3. Some name "enforcers", consigliere/fixers, hit men, drivers, crime specialists(heist guys, car thieves, scam artists, bank robbers), and so forth 4. maybe a few named crooked cops and politicians 5. comic book gangsters ok, but would like to mostly "borrow" from film and tv 6. characters should have a discernible personality, and should have a pic 7. they will get souped up gear and henchpersons suitable to dealing with supers, as needed, but not necessary to detail for basic writeup 8. backstories "adjusted" to fit the organization(a sort of generic crime syndicate, not limited by common ethnicity or real family associations) 9. the relative ruthlessness of the criminals and families should vary a bit 10. female gangsters a definite plus Anyway, I will try to contribute my own ideas here and there, but given my knowledge of gangster movies and shows is limited, I figured I'd open it up to the creative folks on these here Hero Boards. Hermit
Re: The Five Families--an organized crime group, with a twist If you don't mind drawing from comedies, there's always Danny Vermin from the movie "Johnny Dangerously" ("You shouldn't grab me, Johnny. My mother grabbed me once... ONCE.")
Ockham's Spoon
Re: The Five Families--an organized crime group, with a twist I will throw out Peter Lorre's role of Abbott in Hitchcock's "The Man Who Knew Too Much". You might also also tap Lorre's character Joel Cairo from the "Maltese Falcon". Lorre makes for some creepy and often idiosyncratic villains which could easily be played up. megaplayboy
Re: The Five Families--an organized crime group, with a twist Anton Chigurh(played by Javier Bardem, "No Country for Old Men", hit man, Western US family)
Lord Liaden
Re: The Five Families--an organized crime group, with a twist For the Latin American crime boss, I highly recommend Tony "Scarface" Montana, from the cult classic film Scarface. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086250/ "Say 'Hello' to my little friend!" Lord Liaden
Re: The Five Families--an organized crime group, with a twist For the Oriental crime boss, I nominate Wo Fat from the long-running Hawaii Five-0 television series. Either the original version played by Khigh Dheigh, or as portrayed by Mark Dacascos in the current rebooted series. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wo_Fat
csyphrett
Re: The Five Families--an organized crime group, with a twist There was Frank, Denzel Washington's character, from American Gangster. He had his smuggling and selling set up like a real business. Leon the Cleaner could take care of your rivals. CES

Frank Lucas is based on an actual gangster, and I'm inclined not to use them. Denzel's corrupt Lt., from Training Day, otoh, would make an excellent crooked cop contact. As an alternative, Nino Brown from New Jack City(played by Wesley Snipes, regional boss, drugs):
Balabanto
Re: The Five Families--an organized crime group, with a twist For the oriental crime boss, I recommend Chow Yun Fat's character from Shanghai. Forget everyone else, unless you really want Chow as your cleaner from "The Killer," which is his signature movie.
Lord Liaden
Re: The Five Families--an organized crime group, with a twist Francisco Scaramanga, "the Man with the Golden Gun," assassin for... well, any of the families, really. He was employed all over the world, although the movie version owned a private island near China at the end of his career.
