Though, we still tell stories in the family about my maternal grandmother who got drunk from cough medicine (she took a shot after nearly every cough) …..and then the preacher visited the sick that day. For those familiar with the Andy Griffith Show, we liken it to the episode where Aunt Bee had too much of the "elixir". Note: When grandma found out the truth that she had been drunk, she didn't take it well, being embarrassed for years when talking to the preacher.
