  1. Re: Flyboys: WWI pilots, dogfights, and zepplins!!! Well I know I will enjoy the movie. Even if it isn't "historically accurate". It's a movie, not a documentary. Patriot, Braveheart, Glory and so on were all good movies. They were not in any way documentaries and so all had “historical inaccuracies”. This would have upset me if they were claiming to show “the true story”, but they are not. Now I am disappointed that is looks like they will only be showing DR1’s for German fighters. I did see a German bomber in a prod still, but nothing after that, so it may only be the trailers showing only DR1’s. I hated “Titanic” and “Pearl Harbor” not because of the storyline or effects, but because both the titles and promotion implied that they were about the Titanic and Pearl Harbor, not love stories that just happened to take place during those two events. The movie Flyboys didn’t name itself “Bloody April” or somesuch, and I fully realize it will be a fictional story (with romance) that takes place during WW1. I’m fine with that.
  2. Re: New Bujold novel I really like reading her SciFi. But the rest is just bla to me. I read a lot of Fantasy and SciFi, so it isn't the genre but the "feel" of how the author tells the story. Her SciFi "clicks" for me. The Fantasy doesn't. MORE MILES!
  3. Re: Flyboys: WWI pilots, dogfights, and zepplins!!! Since when has anybody watching a movies "expected" accuracy? But it has ZEPPLINS!!
  4. Re: Kim Possible - Modern Day Pulp Heroine? Hay, Ron Stoppable's character sheet is titled Kim Possible! Is there something we should know??
  5. Re: Hmmm...okay, how about a Bosnian Pyramid? Well, I will have to admit you can't paint a whole group with the same brush. And there are a lot of nut cases out there with the "crack pot discovery of the minute". what bothered me about what little I read and watched, was the presumption of falsehood that seems to command everyone these days. What happened to being highly sceptical but reserving judgement until it is investigated? But then Troy was a fable for centuries until they found it. And there are places where modern construction has completely disappeared without a trace in less than 100 years. Also there have been several ancient sites that were hiding in plain sight. We just didn't see them for what they were, especially if something else was constructed on top of them. An example would be the mound builders of North America. They built huge artificial hills/platforms on top of which they built their cities and for years no one ever realized they were more than just hills.
  6. Re: General book help Thanks, Steve: I am already using you suggestions to help search for more titles and am planning to hit the local bookstores this weekend. Narratio: I looked throught sites but haven't been able to find a floor plan. Mostly external shots. I could probably make up any needed floor plan, but I am opening a Pulp that takes place in 1935 Hudson City. The PC's "secret headquarters" will be a hidden floor in the same building as the Empire Clubs Hudson City chapter. I am basing the building on the Empire State building and wanted to have the same feel for the layout. I was planning on mapping out the EC using the JI version and the ESB as a guide.

  9. Re: Ships of the Dark Ages and Medieval Period I have to second this very strongly. I am a real history buff for seafaring from the age of the galley to late sail. Columbia Game’s “Pilots Almanac” is hands down the best RPG handbook for running the maritime aspects of a merchantmen in the 1200-1600’s. It’s guidelines (loose rules) cover everything from sailing the ship, cargo handling, crew positions with job descriptions and how simulate them for a game. Pay, how to navigate and so on. All with enough detail to make a great game, but simple enough to be usable with one read through. If you are running a medieval seafaring game this is the book to have. Until there is a Hero book that is
  10. Re: Background help How about not picking right now? What if he doesn't remember who actually did it to him. This would leave many really good possibilities. And later when the PC has more clearly defined himself, you can select the exact villian. If the hero has a fear of hights, could it be that the villian's headquarters was was high? A mountain fortress or a even a floating island/ship. A fear of snakes from the the hazy memory of Cobra?
  11. I am looking for a book that contains illustrations on how a skyscraper is laid out. It doesn't have to be super detailed, but I have never been able to poke around a real one. An overview of something along the line of the Empire State building or another building of the same period. How are stores, offices, residences distributed? The elevator banks? I am slowly getting better at mapping and when I map out the Empire Club and the PC's headquarters, I would like to make it a plausable layout. Thanks
  12. Re: Empire Club map. Most cool When is the tenative, not solid, best guess of a maybe release target date It shows up on the 2007 list, but the comment says Mid 2006. I am pretty sure we are past the Mid 2006 time frame, so I am hoping for a late 06 or early 07 date......
  13. Re: Need some advice about designing a campaign
  14. Re: Empire Club map. Super! Great page. I had seen something like it a few months ago that someone had posted. But I had lost the URL. The ship is a little smaller than the one I am mapping out, but it is perfect for one of the scenrios I was working up. Thanks
  15. Re: A general question? What about Shields? I understand. If you read the Honor Harrington books you will find that the first few are pure Space Opera. But later on (book 5ish) when she gains rank the stories change from individual adventure/combat to a lot of high level strategic planning and politics. Several large scale fleet actions, but not as many small ship clashes. I enjoyed the entire series and the new series, "The Shadow of Saganami" picks up with young JO's again. Only one volume so far, but hopefully more on the way. Saganami is the name of the Royal Manticorian Navy's leading Academy.
  16. Re: Empire Club map. Thanks Very interesting.

  18. Re: A general question? What about Shields?
  19. Re: A general question? What about Shields? Actually SITS is for individual ships too. It is the game I have and it is designed for each person to control 1-3 ships max. The movement system is still vectored thrust like AV:T but without fuel. Also the enemy is easier to spot due to the high energy output of thier wedge. Unless you drop the wedge, go silent and ballistic. They are working on a Fleet simulator, but I don't know any details. If I understood things correctly, they plan on getting the AV:T fleet game out first, and then the SITS fleet game. Once again, I don't know for sure, but the impression I get is SITS is a simplified version of game mechanics perfected in AV:T and the fleet version of the game will follow the same development model.
  20. Re: Empire Club map. Well I am planning on the EC being located in a skyscraper. Hudson City's Empire building. The PC's will all work with/for their Patron who is a wealthy industrialist (ala Howard Hughes) and a "Top Man" with the government. He also "owns" a few floors. They serve as a residence if he should be in the city (rarely), an office for his interests in Hudson City (considerable), apartments for his friends (the PC’s) & visitors, and the secret labs and workshops (also for the PC’s). It will be a supers-Pulp game. Think of slightly greater than normal (Doc Savages companions) men that have secret super identities (Shadow, Phantom, Captain America, Rocketeer, etc). The PC's will all be member of or be retained by either the patron or the EC. A fairly easy way to ensure contacts for adventure. I am opening the campaign in 1933-34. Plenty of pulp intrigue and international rivalry in the best (or worst) of early Hollywood stereotypes. “Ve shall make you talk, Herr doctor…..”
  21. Re: Empire Club map. Great maps
  22. Re: Empire Club map. Sadly, AC isn't really an option. I wish I knew where my "pulp" box went.
