  1. I have the GammaWorld 4th edition book and it was a great game. Never played the other versions but I'm sure they were good also. Gamma World is really a game where i would just make hero characters based on themes rather than trying to convert stats or mechanics. You basically have Normal Humans, Mutant Humans, Mutant Animals, Mutant Ferns, and if you want to expand it a bit robots. I think the freeform nature of Hero system would really fit Gamma World. Also instead of a milkman could you persuade him to make it a good humor ice cream salesman? : ) Classic 50's goodguy.
  2. Here's an idea stat up the character as he would appear when the bracer is active and give him a multiform setup to allow him to take the shape of whatever person might have the gauntlet at the time.
  3. This may be a bit late but to help with the Captain America strength thing the particular Harley Davidson was probably supposed to be a WLA model which was produced specifically for the US army it has a dry weight of 244.9 kg (540.0 pounds), So if each of the women weighs about 130 - 140 lbs which is about average for a woman in the 40's the total amount that he is lifting is about 435.5 kg or 960 lbs. so a 20 strength wouldn't quite be enough to lift it but something around 22 or 23 would definitely handle it. I guess it would depend on if the Gm allows a bit of fudging.
  4. Re: A thematic question regarding Life Support (Disease) and (Poisons) Related to the current topic but a bit of a sidestep. What about beneficial poisons. Certain toxins if used in regulated amounts have a beneficial effect, some of which cannot be adequately reproduced by other medicines. A form of Arsenic (ARSENIC TRIOXIDE) is used as a treatment for leukemia which is used when other medical treatments don't have an effect. Digitalis commonly referred to as Foxglove is another example. Even a tiny tiny bite of this plant will cause death, a particularly agonizing death. However Digitalis is one of the oldest therapeutic medicines and is still in use today to treat complications of congestive heart failure and its particular effect has not been reproduced synthetically. Digoxin tablets come in ranges from 0.125 mg to 0.5 mg. If someone had immunity to poisons and it was ruled as an absolute effect then the person wouldn't be able to use some lifesaving medicines. The dividing line between beneficial and dangerous for some medicines is only a matter of amounts For some of those medicines that amounts needed can be very very small and the line between poison and medicine can likewise be very very small. Personally I would let the player define the power, maybe allowing them to take a 5 point complication (mentioned in a post above) if they can't gain the beneficial effects from a poison.
  5. Re: Eccentric but plausible ways a character could be rich? Some ides which come to mind are. 1 You refined or invented a new process, better widget, or more cost effective design for something that while small and insignificant on its own is actually used extensively in a field or industry. I doesn't give you much fame except in small trade circles but has allowed you to live a comfortable life. 2 You created a product that was a complete failure in your country of origin. However due to a smart shift in marketing, your product has seen increased appreciation in another county. You have contracted out production to a company in that foreign company and after taxes and tariffs you manage to pull in a modest income allowing you to enjoy a life of leisure. You occasionally get asked to speak in the foreign country and appear for publicity. 3 You built a modest business producing a product that was quite popular in a few markets. However you had rich and powerful competitors. You always worried that they would use their market strength to crush your smaller company. To your surprise though that competitor saw the value of your company, the high value of your company. They offered to buy it out taking over the brand name and production. While losing your company hurt you've found ways to ease the pain a bit. You have a mention on a Wikipedia page when people look up your product on the internet. These ways of becoming rich have basis in reality and happen quite often. Each one allows for a level of anonymity but still has some quirk that can be used for a giggle.
  6. Re: "Wizard Proof" firearms? I would say that double barrel shotguns and single shot rifles and pistols would be the most magic proof because they are the simplest and most reliable. Something like a Rossi single shot, Rossi wizard, Harrington & Richardson rifles, Sharps rifles, Thompson Center Contenders, Stoeger Double Defense, etc. etc. Basically a barrel, a cartridge, a firing mechanism, and a stock.
  7. Re: Hypothetically and unofficially, what would you like to see in a Mecha Hero book? I haven't seen magic knights or uresia yet. I just put down a small sampling of mecha shows and movies, definitely not complete. I can also agree it needs tank rules just so you can have this. Dominion Tank Police
  8. Re: Hypothetically and unofficially, what would you like to see in a Mecha Hero book? Mecha Superheroes Military/Covert Ops Mecha Dystopian Mecha Neon Genesis Evangelion Dystopian Mecha Sports Steam Punk Mecha Fantasy Mecha Who Hasn't Wanted To Play This
  9. Re: Physical Complication - Screen Writers Amnesia Calculon: [scene from All My Circuits] Oh, Monique! Why did we wait so many years to bathe in champagne? [fishes some out of the tub and drinks it] Antonio Calculon, Jr.: [parachutes through the window and lands in front of them] Father! I have discovered the shocking secret mother has kept from you for 200 years. Monique: No. *No!* Antonio Calculon, Jr.: Brace yourself for when I speak these words you may well suffer an attack of explosive amnesia!
  10. Re: Just got 6e *impressed* Yeah, I'm already familiar with this I'm an old hero player from 4e so its all familiar. I'm still reading the books so its gonna take a bit before I really know whats changed. Its a big heavy book. Bit of silliness with no disrespect to the author. Has anyone checked to see this version is bulletproof yet?
  11. I just got both main books for the sixth edition and I'm glad I got them. So far I've skimmed through both giving book 2 a bit more reading then the first but they have alot of improvements so far. The format and layout is nicely done. You can instantly notice different parts of the rules, you get a nicer sidebar, better notes, and tool kitting blocks all nicely presented. The paper is alot thicker and I keep turning a page and checking to see if I turned two by mistake. So far I've noticed the change in figured characteristics which I like it gives just the same starting levels but you just pay for what you want on everything now. The reduction in math is a good thing to me. It also reduces the cost on some of the statistics to account for it also. There is a definite point growth in the system where characters will start with a higher number of points then before. which I've heard is because of the cost adjustment on many of the things in the system. However I don't see this as a bad thing as long as there's enough points to make a decent character. Besides starting character points are more of a guideline anyway. I'll have to read them a bit more but so far I'm very impressed. I'm gonna call them the BBB2:Return of the BBB.
  12. Re: List Your CO Heroes! My heroes are Alley Creeper and Shield Bearer at the moment. I'm interested in how Harbinger of Justice turned out.
  13. Just a post of something weird I noticed. It seems like all the travel powers have a non-combat speed bonus just like hero system. I thought it was neat. OK your turn what strange and amusing things have you seen so far.
  14. So the Open Betas over and its one day till the "head start" and 3 days till release. How do you feel about CO so far happy, sad, giddy, perturbed, etc. So far having played only about a week in open beta I have to say I'm fairly satisfied. I'm sure they need to do more tweaking but for me the game is playable and is fun. I'm satisfied with the way character creation is handled and the way missions are presented. I haven't experienced significant lag except during the Mega-Destroid fights and even then it just caused a bit of jitter. The Powerhouse is a great idea which I hope will appear in future MMO's in some form. The zones are huge with alot to explore and the art, graphics, and style are very good also they have a nice variety to them. Travel Powers are robust with many options which cover all of the major modes of Superhero transportation except vehicals. Overall it does a good job of making you feel like your playing a character in a comic book universe. Hopefully over time players will get more costume, power, and customization options but as it stands its pretty good as is. How does everyone else feel about the game now that betas over.
