  1. Re: weird villain concepts Bubblegum. A corrupt security guard fell into a vat of bubblegum with radioactive wast and his body was transformed into lving bubblegum. Video Fighter-A guy whose main attacks are classic video game characters(based on songs from a certain music alblum). His fireball he shoots out with a yell of Pac-Man Fever and a pac-man going waka waka waka is fired out of his hands. Asteroids, Defender, Mousetrap, Centipede, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Beserk, Frogger were the games. D.J. Rapper-Every bad cliche wrapped up with disco and rap music. From afros to gold chains to ugly costumes to talking in rhyme mixed with a LOUD voice that never stopped talking. Even while asleep.
  2. Re: Ghost Rider The Cold Hellfire would probably be an Ego damaging attack with a visible aura. The Johnny Blaze/Zarathos Ghost Rider was definitley a master of the Presence attack. He actually scared professional assassins. I'm not sure which version of Ghost Rider was the best version.(I know who the worst version was. The guy dressed up like a cowboy in glowing white clothes. I think he calls himself Phantom Rider now)
  3. Re: Ghost Rider I thought you were talking about the nasty Ghost Rider Able to create a motorcylce from flames Toss bolts of hot and cold hellfire Create walls of flame A mild form of super-strength A bit of invulnerability A dispel power(Ghost Rider got shrunk, he channeled his rage to dispel the shrinking) The cold hellfire was NASTY. If the person was nothing more than a mindless puppet or had no soul, the cold hellfire wouldn't work. Otherwise, get ready to hear a scream that would chill most people's souls. The cold hellfire was able to blast insanity away once.
  4. Re: Marvel Universe trivia The Spellbinder mini-series was just that. A mini-series. A four issue miniseries. The order band had the power of order. The chaos band had the power of chaos. There were a couple other items like a flight cape and a crown. But the bands were the main thing. The bands were once used to disperse(not send back, basically spread the atoms out) a demon mage and then later pull him back together(he was still alive) It has been a while, since I read that mini-series
  5. Re: Marvel Universe trivia Let's go really obscure here. The Spellbinder bands. At the end of the mini-series, it was shown that prolonged use of the bands permanently empowers a being. Then there is the insanity problem that those bands cause.(more like power without purpose drove them insane)
  6. Re: Marvel Second Stringers. Help me out.
  7. Re: Marvel Second Stringers. Help me out. Moon Knight Ghost Rider(The one that perceded Johnny Blaze) I think he's called Shadow Rider now. He's dressed as a cowboy in an off-white outfit(glowing?) with full face mask. He just goes whereever her needs to be. Spellbinder. Not the lead girl from that mini-series, she went nuts. Her eldest brother. He has the chaos and order bracelets and is guarding against one of the Spellbinders returning to wreak havoc on Earth
  8. Re: Why Kill At All? Syndrome's death in The Incredibles I could easily see. Syndrome had just kidnapped Jack-Jack. Only due to Jack-jack's powers did the kidnap attempt fail. Then Syndrome had to open his big mouth and threaten to kidnap Jack-Jack again and laugh about it. Syndrome was begging to be killed. Mr. Incredible's family is very important to him.
  9. Re: Why Kill At All? Not lateset: http://theages.superman.ws/welcome.php http://batman.superman.ws/welcome.php The 2.99 price tag is a big deal, especially with the decompression of storylines. There are several things competeing with US comics today: MP3 players, Internet, hand-held videogame(Gameboy, PSP, etc.), DVD's
  10. Re: How do you feel about Superheroes that kill? I'm going to use some anime/manga superheroes. Iczer-1. At the end of Fight, Iczer-1, she killed her sister because Iczer-2 would not get out of the way and said that the Big Gold would not appear unless she was killed. In Adventure, Iczer-3, Iczer-1 again faced Iczer-2(revived by Neos Gold) and after beating her in combat said that she never wanted to have the feeling of killing a sister again and left Iczer-2 alive. Iczer-2 reformed. Iczer-3 felt pity for Neos Gold after killing Neos, since all Neos knew was to fight and to kill. Sho aka Guyver I. Considering that Kronos wants to turn all of humanity into Zoanoids and put them under the domination of the ZoaLords, Sho has to resort to more violent methods. What happend to Sho's father was horrible. Neither Sho(mentally incapacitated due to injuries) nor Fumio(turned into a Zoanoid) were in control of their own bodies and they fought til death. Sho killed his own father. After recovering somehwat from that disaster, Sho kept fighting Kronos's evil. Cutey Honey. She has killed several humans who have allowed themselves to be taken over by demonic energy. The one that hurt her the worst was the actress who was converted against her will. If she didn't kill that actress, several innocents would have died. The next panel showed Honey crying(actually the end panel of that story arc). After that, Honey put an end to Panther Zora by tricking the Demoness to leaving a dimensional gate open. The UN carpet bombed Panther Zora's home and Honey dropped Zora into a pit that later got bombed. Devilman. The only way to kill a demon is to become a demon. He did and he's been tearing up the minions of Hell ever since. Are any of them less heroic because they killed? No. Their opponents tend to be viscous and have a need to be stopped as quick as possible. Unlike the Authority, they try to do it as quick as possible. The opponent defines the response for the most part. The Joker going into Gotham City Police Department with an automatic gun shooting up the place, should have been the end of the Joker. The cops would have killed him on the spot, even if he was knocked down.
  11. Re: What's the most ridiculous PC you've ever been subjected to? I created the bizzare NPC's. The Mighty Dirigible. A person who thinks that the Hindenberg was the ultimate air vehicle. Bubblegum. A corrupt guard gets knocked into a vat of bubblegum while covered with some strange substance. He is now made out of living bubblegum.
  12. Re: Why Kill At All? Really depends on the character concept and what he or she is fighting. Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld killed Black Opal. Black Opal wasn't giving her a choice. Much later Amy found a way to save not only Gemworld, but other magical realms by pointing out that most magic realms give off a residue of magical waste that the people who were trying to destroy Gemworld could use. Chemo and the Plutonium Man's multiple deaths? Fine. That's part of the Metal Men stichk to come back every issue after being destroyed. So it should logically extend to some of their villians. Green Lantern Hal Jordan killed over fifty people in a single issue of Green Lantern. The Qwardians had invaded Oa and he killed several Thunderers in the repulsion effort.(Green Lantern power rings don't kill? Yeah right.) Fates worse than death: Dr. Destiny had one of the worst punishments ever dropped down a villian. He had his ability to dream stripped away from him. The pre-Crisis Phantom Zone villians also had punishment dropped down upon them with the Phantom Zone Projector.
  13. Re: How do you feel about Superheroes that kill? I think it depends on the character and what is going on in the story. Sho Fukamachi aka Guyver Cutey Honey Devilman Theese are heroes that kill and kill quite regualry, but they are in a war against beings that humans don't really have a chance against. The Punisher, however, is a lunatic that needs to be put down. It's pretty bad that the demonically possesed Johhny Blaze/Ghost Rider was a better hero than the Punisher.
  14. Re: Early Marvel Age x Silver Age No, you're correct that Captain Fear wasn't a hero. And in the case where a villian did get their own series(Kobra for example), you knew the guy was a villian. Me? I want to finish theese stories that I only have a piece of Nolstagia is a big factor, I'll admit. Part of the rose-colored nonsense comes from the cartoon shows aimed at children and the Adam West Batman. The live-action Wonder Woman show? Uh. World War II? If you want to put a little more 'Silver Age' DC into your Hero games, toss in sabatouers from a foriegn country. 'Silver Age' DC heroes used a lot of trickery to win a fight. Despite all of their powers, their minds were used quite often.
  15. Re: Early Marvel Age x Silver Age Yes, the off-series of DC did get away with a lot(Egg Fu? Dr. Yes?). Probably why I enjoyed them over DC's mainstream and all of Marvel's offerings, save Ghost Rider BTW I retract the comment of DC not putting out a comic with a borderline psycho as a main character. Early 1970's a series of stories featuring a Carib Indian pirate called Captain Fear.
  16. Re: Early Marvel Age x Silver Age Are you sure about that? Kobra: The Deadliest Man Alive Society of Super-Villians DC did produce two comics with villians as the main characters. Then there is the entire Eclipso nonsense. Is he a man or is he a villlian? That finally ended in the pages of Metal Men with the battle against Umbra. Although borderline psychos(unless you count the Spectre) didn't have any comics. The Silver Age did have a few comics that were just fun. Super-heroes and super-villians going at each other by playing a BASEBALLL GAME!
  17. Re: Early Marvel Age x Silver Age Let's see if I can recall off hand some of the DC silver/bronze-age moments. The first appearance of the Plutonium Man. Even if they didn't show the corpses, you knew he was killing huge amounts of people. The Metal Men themselves definitley had personalities. I'd say their introduction started the process of getting DC heroes non-cookie cutter personalities. The Qwardian invasion of Oa. Uh. Green Lantern power rings aren't supposed to be able to kill right? Then what's with all the Qwardian corpses? The Spectre turning a person into wood and then running him through a buzzsaw. What most people are really referring to when they say Silver Age is the campy era of DC, due to the influence of the Batman televison show(starring Adam West) and the Comics Code Authority. It prevaded anything that Batman and Superman had a present day tie to. Of course the SuperFirends cartoon didn't help matters. Some of those super-hero cartoons were very bizzare. Thing ring do your thing! The Marvel Family at the time appealed to children, much like the Archie comics did.
  18. Re: Superhero Pope: Ridiculous or Sublime? And the comic calling the Pope the Anti-Christ(Jack Chick wrote it) is another three conceptts that don't work.
  19. Re: Pls Suggest Names for a South/Central American Superhero Group For some heroes(untranslated names): Golden Condor Spirit Warrior Jaguar Lord Plumed Serpent
  20. Re: Pirate-Theme Villains Needed Captain Eyepatch with a variety of vision based powers based in his eyepatch along with a laser. Polly the Parrot. Annoying mascot of the team that has perfect recall and is used as a spy to get safe combinations Sargasso the Sea Monster Tosses seaweed that entagles a foe and then makes them invisible while they are entangled. (How can you free your friends, when you don't know where they are?) Pegleg Pete. Superlead. While leading over an opponent, he can fire a blast of energy out of his peg leg.
  21. Re: YOU KNOW THE d20 WELL HAS RUN DRY WHEN... #6 FATAL D20
  22. Re: Past VIPER supervillians The Silver Age Sentinels books: Roll Call 1-3 and Criminal Intent have some more villians you could use. El-Demonio from Roll Call 2 for example Even if you don't like the system, SAS does have a lot of characters you could use to spice up your campaign.
  23. Re: Musings on Random Musings Uhm. What happened to Hockey? Why isn't being played this year? And no, I am not joking. I have no cable and can only get PBS and a very fuzzy CBS station. I also don't bother getting my local paper.
  24. Re: Reality Storm: When Worlds Collide, Part II Caliburn is the Silver Age Sentinel's dark vigilante. He takes his name from the magic sword: Caliburn(aka Excaliber) He looks a bit better than Nighthawk((they just should have called him Darkwing Duck and be done with it ) But Caliburn still has a somewhat silly costume. A steel shield as a faceplate. BTW SAS has the stats for Lady Starbright(their Green Lantern homage)
