tkdguy got a reaction from Lord Liaden in Funny Pics II: The Revenge
I read it the way the cat did and wondered who the heck that was.

I didn't ask for your opinion because I already know you are incapable of expressing approval.

Another question is “Are you a tailor or a simulist?” How beholden are you to certain tropes? For example though I like dwarves and elves, but I can’t seem to envision them in a sword and sorcery game. One that is closer to a Conan story. Though now if I picture elves in such a setting, they seem to be the the Children of the Forest from Game of Thrones.

Interesting. Suppose instead that Elrond clobbered Isildur over the head with the flat of his blade, then taken the Ring and cast it into the fire himself. Would that have averted both evils? I wonder. . .

I don't think I've seen that one before, at least in that format. That's an infrared image, and at first my guess was Jupiter and its rings.
Finally found it: a groundbased (!!) image of Uranus, 2.2 micron band, from the Keck on Mauna Kea, taken 2004.

Confessions of an old-school gamer:
1. I prefer 2nd Edition AD&D to 1st Edition. I enjoy the latter, but 2nd Edition is where my sweet spot lies.
2. My favorite setting is the Forgotten Realms. Although I'm aware that Gary Gygax created Greyhawk, I find that setting quite dull.
3. I like to play other games besides D&D. I need variety. Playing a single game excluively makes me lose interest in that game.
That is all.

This year's season of Battlebots was pretty intense. Although a number of teams went to China to compete in a different show's contest, they still had most of their stars and a few new faces too. Some newcomers made a grand entrance, some sputtered. A few of them were utterly wrecked. I attended events almost twenty years ago and the amount of damage these machines produce has increased dramatically...very few of the machines I remember from back then still compete and few of them are still effective. I'm not sure if they are still going to be replayed on TV, but youtube has plenty of content.
