  1. Re: A Court Intrigue and Power Game Excellent ideas Chris, thanks very much! I'm beginning to see that it's not so much different skills or powers that are necessary but different goals. The goals will determine what skills and powers are useful and how to use them.
  2. Re: A Game Of Questions Is it still today in your timezone?
  3. Re: A Court Intrigue and Power Game Thanks for these thoughts. I can see how the Interaction skills being rewarded as you said could work without any modification of Hero. In that case it becomes a game of skills more than powers, unless you had Interaction powers as well. The Reputation Point is interesting. In the devious and not so honorable or at least not so polite society I am envisioning I could still use this idea but the reputation would be improved through different acts. I might call them Influence points rather than Reputation points. I don't really get the "fan base power" idea. Is this like a rock star having a fan base and that improves his influence? Any other thoughts?
  4. I'm not sure I actually will build this but I'm curious how I could. How would you build a game where the players are all members of one or more courts (nobility) and the "action" of the game is to do things to improve your standing or influence. It could include trying to directly influence those in power, literally or figuratively stab your rivals in the back, spread gossip, build alliances, etc. My initial thoughts are to use Perqs and Presence Attacks but I don't really know how I would use them. Is this just something that would have to be role-played or is there a way in Hero to "stat it out" and have some equivalent to battles to determine who improved their standing in court.
  5. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread I got a wonderful story from my sister about her sons. They are always saying and doing funny things and she tells the stories well. For added happiness, I will not bore you all with the story as it is probably not nearly as funny to you as it is to me.
  6. Re: A Game Of Questions Can we have some order in this thread?

  8. Re: A Game Of Questions If I say, "I could care less" doesn't that really mean that there is at least an infinitessimal amount of caring from me?
  9. Re: Complicate the Person Above Death Tribble claims to know the the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow, African and European.
  10. Re: Ctrl+V Not available in my country...that's it! I'm moving!
  11. Re: And now, for your daily dose of cute... Brings to mind the children's rhyme of the Three Little Kittens who had lost their mittens.
  12. Re: Complicate the Person Above Pig Latin FTW! death tribble looks at teh bunneh and has ear and tail envy.
  13. Re: NGD Scenes from a Hat I may not like everything she does, but at least I can see the logic in it. (I passed on several much ruder responses.)
  14. Re: Complicate the Person Above Few people know that The Main Man got his nickname because of his awesome mullet and poor spelling.
  15. Re: The Last Word Thanks for pointing that out. I guess I had my blinders on. I got curious and looked for some international equivalent and didn't find it. Here is the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights which has equivalents to many of the rights in the US Constitution but I did not see one that was equivalent to the right that protects Americans from being compelled to be a witness against themselves, which is the basis of the commonly known "right to remain silent."
  16. Re: The Last Word Very interesting article and follow-up. Here is an excellent video (two actually) on why you should never talk to the police. The first video is the law professor and former defense attorney presenting his argument. The second video is a very experienced detective giving his perspective. It is a pretty extreme point of view but is well presented and entertaining. It is also very long so settle in to watch for a while. I hope this is not a duplicate reference. 27 min 21 min
  17. Re: Hero system complexity Wow, I don't see Hero as Linux. Hero would be Linux if the manual was nothing but unrelated one page write ups on whatever part of the system someone decided to write about and written by multiple authors with different writing styles.
  18. Re: THE HERO SYSTEM EQUIPMENT GUIDE -- What Would *You* Like To See? As I don't see anything showing the organization topic as closed, I want to weigh in on that. I'm a FH player and would be happiest with Option #3. Option #1 would not be too bad. Option #2, even with the Appendix that some people have suggested would be pretty darn annoying.

  20. Re: New Campaign Idea: "Blood" Here are a few suggestions. Using animal breeding terms. (in parentheses, as a group) Blood - Breed (The Breed) Mixed - Cross (The Cross) Normal - Mongrel (The Mongrels) Using sort of aristocracy terms Blood - Patrician (The Patricians) Mixed - Elite (The Elite) Normal - Plebeian (The Plebeians, or The Plebes)
  21. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Outstanding! Both of them. I'm going to watch some more of these.
  22. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? I watched "Romancing the Stone" a few nights ago. It was pretty much a non-stop roller coaster ride and a lot of fun. There are some good ideas there for GM's.
  23. Re: Locate Object You might want to start from the Magesight (Fantasy Hero) talent. It allows detection of magic items. I don't know what kind of items you want the char to be able to locate. If it is limited to a class of item or if it is limited to items that have a certain property then Magesight might be good to adapt.
