  1. I guess DCU has taken Batman to the level of an old-school Grand Master (which I guess I don't protest). Question: has his training taught him defy gravity (ala Treetop Walking) w/out gear? If, in fact, the Bat is now some sort of Wong Fei Hong or O'Sensei, I guess he can levitate, teleport, go into bullet-time, and I'd imagine Chinese (mystical) healing practices would also be within his skillset. Geronimo, a simple shaman (not even a martial master) was rumored to be able to slow-time in and out of combat, so my mind does allow me to accept that non-supers can do extraordinary (paranormal even) things. I just wasn't aware Bruce Wayne had attained those levels. Thanks for the 411.
  2. Sketchpad, You make some excellent points. There's no doubt Batman is smarter than Buffy, and [ultimately] that equates to the bottom line. And I won't deny in HERO terms Bruce's DCV would be extraordinarily high,... however Slayer healing/resilience is nothing to be downplayed. She's sustained swords ('n such) and kept on fighting; only gunshots to the chest have seemed to stop her (and that's w/out wearing any kind of body armor at all). In 5E terms, I'm not sure Bat's CON, STR, DEX & SPD would all match [or surpass] Buffy's, or should (considering her supernatural origins). That is, unless he's doing something beyond simply training (i.e., steroids or bionics). I always sorta questioned why Surbrook posted Buffy w/ stats lower than cinematic heroes like Jet Li & Jackie Chan, but your points (Sketchpad) have helped shed some light on that subject. Experience, & Deduction do factor. I will still say that Buffy's ability to Find Weakness or Analyze Style may not be as high as some seasoned iconic heroes, but her's is inherent/mystical (as opposed to learned thru study). I'm not saying one way/method is better than the other, just different.
  3. the only chance Batman would have would be with a Sniper Rifle (or other ballistic firearm)....
  4. Which would Bruce Wayne need more of (to have half a chance confronting Ms. Summers), Painkillers or Steroids??? Cuz, Buffy would need neither to defeat Mr. Wayne. Her Slayer Healing & Resilience alone could keep her in the fight for DAYS! (thanks in part to decreased need for sleep). What do ya got to go against that Chuck?
  5. I bet you bought into the DC (crossover) issue wherein Bruce Wayne beat Spawn too. Fanboys:rolleyes:
  6. Any 1st year comic fan knows that Batman is endowed w/ exactly "0" super-powers. The only real debate is whether Batman's gadgets could kick anybody's (super-powered) ass, cuz we know Batman [naked] sure couldn't. Buffy is indeed endowed w/ super-human Strength, Speed, & Agility. To my logic, that ends the debate. One is a real (paranormal) Superhero, the other is a white-hat vigilante with a gadget-filled belt (and lots of acrobatics training). Nuff Said.
  7. SMG / Tae Kwon Do I'm a fairly obsessive Buffyverse fan, and it's a well-known fact that SMG practices Tae Kwon Do. (Just as it's a well-publicized fact that J. Garner is a Kick Boxer). Although Surbrook didn't personally author/convert the Buffy sheet featured on his site, I figure if its good enough for Surbrook, its good enough for me. I personally believe Buffy did grow more powerful in later seaosns (past 4th), but her STR stat seems solid to me at 23. I think Slayers primarily exist equal to a low-powered mutant [mostly from their resilience & visions). edit - Obviously, STR, SPD, & DEX are also prominent Slayer traits/powers,... but those stats (though varying individual to individual) IMO should still hover in the low-powered mutant level [of the sort 'common' Primus & Viper agents are geared to fight]
  8. Some Bear Facts Curiously, during a (Season 2, dvd) commentary, David Fury (a BtVS writer) referenced Buffy as "stronger than your average Bear" - obviously a reference to Yogi's old saying "Smarter than your average Bear". Well, it got me thinking about the HERO Bestiary (one of the 1st HERO books I ever bought). Coincidentally, Surbrook's site lists Buffy's "Slayer Strength" at 23, which just happens to also correspond to the strength rating of a (common) Black Bear. I know this may seem unrelated, but when Buffy fought a (Chumash Indian shape-shifted into a) Grizzy Bear, she certainly wasn't kicking (or punching) it all about the room (as she does w/ normal vamps).
  9. Re: Sunnydale, California for Champions 5E Can you give the link to "Matt's pages", I run my gamingverse in Neo Sunnydale (in 2377) built on the site of the historical Sunnydale. I would like to see the writeups you refer to. As for my Slayer(s), I basically based mine on the Surbrook (Buffy, season 4) version [from his website]. Thanks
  10. Dude, Where's My Country? One More Day...
  11. Roses are red Violets are blue Oh my, lump in the bed How I've missed you. Roses are redder Bluer am I Seeing you kissed by that charming French guy. The dogs and the cat, they missed you too Barney's still mad you dropped him, he ate your shoe The distance, my dear, has been such a barrier Next time you want an adventure, just land on a carrier.
  12. Tuesday, pick up the follow-up to last years #1 selling book ("Stupid White Men"), Dude, Where's My Country?. Read more about it here, and let's conduct our own Patriot(ic) investigations!
  13. Thanks!!! Thanks a lot Jeff Just today I finally completed my FREd collection, that's right everything sold on this site. (Plus DH & HD). Luckily for me, my RPG retailer just happens to still have older Champions products in stock, which I now plan on buying. The URL you posted was just what the doctor ordered. And Thanks to Doc C for startin the thread!
  14. Sorry / Thanks Sorry for the false assumption, if I ever make it to Origins or GenCon I'll defintely drop by, and drop some cash! If it'd help it be more worth-it to ya, I'd be happy to (volunteer) help man a (ComicCon) booth I'm conveniently located in Central Cal, so it's equally close to head North [sF] or South [LA]. If I were a better writer, or farther along in my HERO skillz, I'd definitely be contributing more on the digital/online front. I hope sooner than later I will be ready to contribute more. By the way, thanks for so positively impacting my days!
  15. Tre Tre, I guess I could (perhaps creatively) wax-on about how stupid you 'n your opinions are, but that would be redundant. Texas = unrivaled killing (by the state) Religion = love thy enemy Question: Does your heroine use violence to settle problems?? If your Code vs. Killing zealot wants to model herself after someone, (or use their motto, if that's your thing) try Gandhi or MLK (that's short for Martin Luther King, for you proud texans).
  16. AA Responding to AA's earlier comment, I must respectfully (yet wholeheartedly) disagree. I'm a dude whose imaginative pursuits were (mournfully) restricted to appreciating other peoples art (film/music, etc). I'd played D&D (a lot) when I was a teenager,.. but it was none other than the many outstanding products of FREd that ressurected my (own) imaginative engine - and the characters I make [with the help of the Hero library] are my own little pieces of art. Honestly, I admit, I don't have kids, am not married, and am lucky enough to work less often than most. Frankly if I did have a family + FT gig I don't see how I'd have any time for RPGing anyway?! I've joked w/ my RPG retailers that I (almost literally) spend all my money there. I'm gonna spend that money there regardless... whether it's on Star Wars, Star Trek, Buffy, or whatever d20. In gratitude, for reloading my RPG mind, I'd MUCH RATHER spend that $$$ on a FREd porduct. Not just out of appreciative loyalty, but for the sheer number of ideas I get from them. Every HERO book I own is packed with bookmarks. So, to (finally) make my point... IMO I wish DOJ would release 2x the number of books they currently do [which is a big reason why I anxiously await each month's issue of DH]!!! FTR, I'm not A** kissing, I'm giving praise where praise is due. P.S. Next year, when I (hopefully) make my 1st pilgrimage to ComicCon (in San Diego) w/out a doubt I'll be hanging at the FREd booth more than anywhere else!
  17. Re: Re: WWJD I'd rather sound like a fool than a Texan! Oddly "evildoers" aren't identified quite the same out here in Cali. Hypocrisy is a wonderful thing isn't it? Can anyone please give me an example of where Jesus Christ advocates killing?? Anyone?? Just a humble question from a lowly (born in sin??) "fool".
  18. YODA Ahem, are halflings shorter than Yoda? Cuz Yoda (in Ep.II) sure had no prob fightin, flippin, etc
  19. Yes! Ultimate Vehicle rocks!!! I couldn't imagine a FREd collection being anywhere near complete w/out it. (Especially if one - at all - plans on running a vehicle in the system). I also really enjoyed the featured Zeppelin in this month's DH. More bonus vehicles would be really welcome in future installments of Digital Hero! (hint, hint)
  20. WWJD How 'bout this... In Christ's loving name, I kill for Oil !!!!
  21. Evil Artifacts Evil items could be cool too... Possessed armor, etc
  22. Friendly Demons I would like to see demonic races that aren't evil. Joss Whedon, through his Buffy franchise, has succeeded pretty well at redefining demons to be very much like animal/humanoid species. (i.e., not every Demon is bad). It'd be sweet to see some races of (clearly) demon, who've discarded their evil nature and've now become useful members of (whatever genre) society. Struggling against their evil/demonic nature(s). Another example would be Martin Short's evil Gnome (who turns good) in the Sam Neill Merlin tv-movie. And just as a general rule,...Dragons, Dragons & more Dragons. Also, how about some traditional Alien species (such as the Roswell Grays). Some parasitic (body-snatcher / symbiot) type critters could be cool too.
