  1. Re: Parsing and refining skills If you are using 6th Edition rules, probably 95% of 5th edition stuff will work fine, and 85% of 4th edition will work fine. If you are using 5th Edition rules, 95% of 4th edition will work fine. At the end of the day, you can use any 4th edition or higher book in a 6th edition game without too many conversion problems. If you have HeroDesigner, those differences are even less of an issue.
  2. Re: so is this broken? I'm not so sure that I agree. There has always been some kind of link or common/shared SFX within the group of powers inside a multipower. The most borderline case is that of the Utility Belt (and I'm certainly not going to start that again, but suffice it to say that it's a hotly debated topic split fairly evenly between defining it as an MP or EC - or the new version of EC, as it were). In this case you've got three entirely separate weapons. This would be analogous to having an MP with three slots: a motorcycle, an airplane and a boat. It bends the rules of common sense and good design, at the least, if not the rules themselves. I certainly don't see that putting the three weapons in an MP is going to limit them in any appreciable fashion.
  3. Re: what are "skill levels?" Yes. There used to be rules that said only levels of a certain level could accept Limitations, but those rules appear to be left to the GM in 6E. So you could, in theory, have a Ring of BreakFall that is +6 with BreakFall: IIF Focus. Other than that, you've got a pretty good grasp of Levels!
  4. Re: Parsing and refining skills Depends on how you, as a GM, want to go in detail. If you are going to have a lot of computer stuff in your game, maybe there should be a Hacking, Data Mining, etc. Or maybe it's just good enough to have a general Computer skill. There was a thread around here in the past week or so about what skills were needed for a trial. This is a similar thing. You reach a point of diminishing returns where you can get too granular with skills and players are forced to spend hundreds of points. In this case, you might give them a generic computer skills roll and then maybe use skill levels (+1 with Hacking, Data Mining and Security). Which is actually a good example of another way to break out skill levels!
  5. Re: what are "skill levels?" Not too much, actually. If you have BreakFall, your base roll is your DEX roll. If you want to be really good at BreakFall, you can buy the skill up +1 for 2 pts. You can also purchase a skill level good only for BreakFall for 2 pts. It is just two different ways to do the same thing. Maybe you have a magic ring or something that is outside of your base BreakFall or for some reason you want it separate. It's pretty much the same thing with all the skill levels. Sometimes skill levels are just another method of getting to somewhere. Sometimes they provide price breaks. If you have a lot of PRE skills, it might be cheaper to purchase a Skill Level than to increase each individual skill. Skill levels can also only be used once per phase. So if you have a +1 with DEX skills, you can use it during your phase in BreakFall or Contortionist but not both. If you spend the point to increase both of those skills, you could use the increase in both skill in the same phase.
  6. Re: so is this broken? In this case, I would say it is not broken but if not illegal ill-advised. He has built a number of separate weapons and tried to sneak in a cost break by putting them in an MP. If he had a sword (2d6 HKA) with a sharpened grip (1d6 HKA) and a nice big fat hilt (+2d6 HA) that would be one thing. They are all aspects of a single item. However, in this case he has taken three separate items: a knife, a sword and a club and tried to link them together. So, I'm not sure if you would call this broken, illegal or just wrong but at the end of the day it's not getting into one of my games. EDIT: Oh, and just fyi your post was almost impossible to decipher. Carriage returns and spaces are your friend!
  7. Re: Champions Sneak Peek #2: The Superhero Gallery! Resistant is an Advantage. It was, in this case, not purchased with a power which makes it Naked. I don't know of anywhere that says the nudity of the Advantage forces it to Cost END, be Persistent or anything else.
  8. Re: I am Spartacus I saw the first episode last night. BAD BAD BAD! I might see another episode or two, but that will only occur if I've completely emptied the DVR and nothing else is on. First of all is the overly gratuitous flinging and splashing of blood. Someone gets a papercut and the entire background is washed out in buckets of spurting blood...that doesn't even particularly look like blood. And it DOES have its Uwe Boll moments. Everytime someone gets cut, sliced or speared they drop to super slow-mo and fling blood. ALL blood flinging is in super slow-mo. They've also fallen into the trap a lot of cable shows go to where lots of sex makes good ratings. You take a show like Spartacus and throw in, what amounts to, soft core porn. I've got nothing against a little bumping and grinding but at least let it have some purpose in the story. They have HEAVILY used a green screen for backgrounds and the skyscapes are cartoony. They've used colour palettes and cloud designs that just don't look real. At the end of the episode I had to make sure what channel I was watching and it hadn't been a SciFi movie. Yes, that's right, the quality of Spartacus is about equal with a movie on the SciFi channel. UG!
  9. Re: Intelligent weapons and items You can either build is as an automaton or just simply not build it at all and call it the SFX of the weapon.
  10. Re: This looks legal but wrong to me Yes, I can get behind that. How do the cost comparisons look?
  11. Re: A somewhat minor question concerning armor/Resistant Protection You pretty much just need to declare "this armour is sealed." SelfContained Breathing would be required (or he would suffocate), and some kind of DEF or FF would be normal but it's mostly a SFX kind of thing.
  12. Re: 6th edition and dystopian future setting (shadowrun) Hmmm, I might have to look after that.
  13. Re: Examples of Damage Negation One of the truly snazzy things about DN is the ability to make it independent of the type of attack. I don't need DN vs Magic ED, DN vs Magic PD, DN vs Magic Flashes. DN vs Magic is enough (more or less, with some clarifications and such) and that is awesome.

  16. Re: 6th edition and dystopian future setting (shadowrun) Cyber Hero is an old 4th Edition. Try eBay. EDIT: http://cgi.ebay.com/Cyber-Hero-35-505-ICE2000-Champions-Hero-System_W0QQitemZ220545098217QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item33598321e9 The book itself is kind of poorly written and such, but it will give you some good direction for implementing Cyberware.

  18. Re: Lockheed Martin HULC Exoskeleton You just know they referred to the testers as 'Banners.'

  20. Re: What skills are necessary for a trial? Well, poo. You beat me to it...and just about hit all the points I was going to. I guess I'll move on. Thanks, though! EDIT: Oh there was one bit I did want to add. If a player comes to you with a character with PS: Lawyer, KS: The Law, Oratory, Persuasion, Perk: Member of the Bar and the only thing on the face of the planet you can think of to use those skills is a trial, you should consider asking the player for ideas on how to use that aspect of his character. Off the top of my head, I can think of a couple of dozens plot hooks based off those skills that don't involve being in a courtroom.
