  1. character images Wildcat, I liked all the various versions of Thrash...........that being said, I guess the public image he's portraying depends on the pic. I actually perferred the very first image (on pg. 21). That pic definately conveyed a much tougher image, much more "business" like. The new pics, I like the shirt better...........with Thrash smiling, it's hard to envision a tough "biker" or "extreme" attitude, he just looks way too friendly. Again, I like all the pics, good variety from one character, I'm sure the character development between beginning and end is quite a story.
  2. power construction First I apoligize for not giving the X's and O's of how to do this.(I'm still a little fuzzy with FrED) Anyway, you could buy the powers in steps. Buy the lower end powers/slots with a shorter time limitation. The greater amount of points used/the greater the time limitation. Also, how intense is the creation process. Will it take the Gestures limitation(he's using both hands, right?) How much concentration? Will the character be able to draw on the run, or stop and be at 1/2 or 0 DCV? There's several other ideas, but I don't know the origin of the power, so that changes the effects. Anyway, I hope this helps.
  3. character image Here's a character of mine. He's been retired for a while. Two of my favorite characters have always been Spiderman and Iron Man. This was my attempt at an amagimation of the two. This is Scorpius, a power armored character with all arachnid inspired powers. Oh, one other note, without deliberately trying, I've posted several images that are cropped. Sorry, my scanner only takes 8 1/2 x 11 pages, most of my images are larger than this, so I placed the central mass of the character in the scanner. Anyway, here he is: Scorpius
  4. superhero images vs. artist critique I checked out the old thread. I liked the interaction between all that participated. Unfortunately, I think, BECAUSE this thread exists, most people won't look for the other thread. I think that this thread can perform both of the purposes. The artists that are truly interested in critique will interact with each other. The other individuals(who primarily just download and slip away like ghosts)won't hinder the creative process between those who choose to discuss techniques, and other subjects related to the creative process. As a bonus, I suppose, is that this page has a much greater circulation, and by default, is seen by many more people. This provides several benefits, first is that more people will be available to contribute and critique. Secondly, if any industry people scan through the images, they get an idea of the creativity and skill of the artists that do post. Skill and creativity are a basic must, but contact with the industry can get an aspiring artist a start. And finally, it's just plain fun to see all the different posts, the different characters, ideas, techniques and imagination that this thread inherently creates.
  5. character images Mangog- I really liked the ORCA picture, nice anthropomorphization. You could see the picture as the blending of an Orca and human. I liked the addition of the few odd black spots, giving the character a subtle originality. Good portait pic all around.
  6. character image Hi again, This is my wife's character: Bombshell. I drew this character and deliberately added about 4 cup sizes and spike heels. Needless to say she wasn't impressed, but for entertainments sake I thought I'd post it. I redrew this character for her, same uniform, different proportions. She was much happier with the reimagining. Here it is: Bombshell
  7. double points Nahhhhhhhhhh...........this is a great example of heroism(or blatant stupidity - the line drawn is so thin). A real person risked serious injury or death to save the lives of his crew. This is a great showing of character, leadership, compassion and courage. It's also a wonderful real story about a real person and a real occurance. Examples like this are the foundation of what make comic books and Champions a successful medium. Great posting, thanks for sharing.
  8. Female Super Groups Interesting concept- FOR GUYS ONLY................seriously, the true fact is that the vast majority of gamers are guys.(It's a sad truth) I have met and played, GMed with less than 5 guys who could convincingly pull off a female character with the appropriate psyche. As hokey as it is.......MEN ARE FROM MARS, WOMEN ARE FROM VENUS. Also, another truth, women in general have a few (keyword: FEW) close female friends. The majority of women like having a good number of PURELY PLATONIC male friends. Most women, especially those in committed relationships, are very protective of their "turf". They don't like the competition around "their" relationship. And another reality, however gross, women who live together, tend to begin "cycling" together. It makes for a very interesting week, once a month. So that being said, it's a cool concept for an artist, and a good selling comic book for the fanboy. The realistic idea is that it wouldn't happen, or if it did, it would be for a short term.
  9. Predictability? I would have to agree with almost all of the posts on this thread. Making your characters stick to concept, instead of efficiency, is very important. I had a brick character once, now retired, called "Rock". He was a middling brick (40 STR, 5 SPD w/ Professional Wrestling MA). The one redeeming quality of this character is that he had absurd defenses. I designed the character to be the last one standing.............no matter how long the fight took. As a strange irony, this character survived 4 superteams, enduring the deaths or disappearances of at least 15 other heroes. This added immensely to the characters depth(his disads), the insane lengths he would go to protect the innocent and his friends and family. I would have to stress again concept and substance over efficiency.
  10. shading of character images Wildcat- I haven't had any experience with computerized graphics. All my work is strictly by hand. On that tip, a good set of colored pencils is invaluable.(my favorite is Berol Prismacolor) One trick that I started with was using poseable figures(I preferred the small GI Joe figures). I would take a lamp, place it whereever I wanted my lightsource to come from, and then do a thumbnail sketch with the shading emphasized. You can always start off with very light colors and add depth and richness as you go. For more extreme contrast, the portions of the body closest to the light source may appear white, or a very pale, washed out color of the underlying costume or surface. I don't know if that helps in any way, but good luck. Other than that, as numerous artists at conventions have told me...........PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.(sighhhhhhhh, there's really no way around it.)
  11. character images Here's a character of mine from a 2nd Ed. DragonQuest game from 1988.(Does anyone even remember that game?) The picture is that old.............when I scanned it and saved it came out a bit blurry. But what the heck, tell me what you think anyway.
  12. character images Mangog, that's one intense porpoise. Hero, villian, or lachey?
  13. character images Great.................thank you all for your input, I do appreciate it. I do understand that some are just interested in viewing(and downloading), that's just the way it is. But for all that have responded, thanks again, if anyone has ideas, techniques or other topics to discuss about art, please post again. Here's another character of mine, from a 3rd Ed. AD&D game, my half-orc barbarian Taurin Maur.
  14. character images Well, people have started to download my posted images...........I would appreciate some feedback. Thanks again
  15. character images This is a fantasy inspired picture, I called: DragoniteWizard
  16. character images Here's another pencil drawing of mine, colored with Berol Prismacolor pencils. This is another Champions character of mine: Polaris
  17. Ms Champions Universe I generally agree that a high Comliness stat is important.......supermodels are supposed to be around 20, but isn't a high Presence stat just as, if not more important. Pure physical beauty is only part of the equation. Take Cindy Crawford for example.........she's a beautiful woman, but only average in comparison to some other supermodels. What makes Cindy soooooooooo irresitable is her Presence. She makes everyone at ease, controlling her environment without ever seemingly trying. I think a better perception of this contest would be to average the COM and PRE stats. Although a wonderful idea...........FOXBAT couldn't catch one of the CU beauties, hero or villian, much less enough for a legitimate contest. It's a wonderful place, in his delusional mind. Can't wait for the bathing suit competition.

    Human Limits

"Human" limits I like JmOzs' take on this subject. The stat ceiling of 20 is a good "soft" buffer. Meaning that MOST "Human" characters would stop around this number. Realistically, as much as a RPG can be, a harder ceiling in general is 30 like in FRED. Figured characteristics are purely up to the agreement of the players and GM.
  19. character image oh yeah, I really didn't say, but I drew the picture and colored it. So again, please tell me what you think. Thanks
  20. character image tell me what you think. This is a picture of my current Champions character: Nightwatch. It's a simple pencil drawing and colored with Berol Prismacolor pencils.
  21. The Bat Team Well, organizing a super team is right up Batman's "alley". He's led the Outsiders, The JLA and several other groups. Starting a new team in HIS hometown........I don't know. Batman suffers from continual paranoia.........planning and plotting for anything and everything. I don't think he could set up a super team without having at least 5 different ways to stop each member recruited. On top of that, he would have to personally smack down each new member just to prove who was in charge. If we're talking "Superfriends" Batman, I see it happening........in the more "realistic" approach to the Batman character, not a chance in this or any other universe.

    PBEM games

I've played Champions in it's various forms since the first edition hit the shelves. I have NO idea how to go about entering or playing a PBEM Champions game. I thoroughly enjoy a good story, and I love comics. Champions has always been the perfect game for me to explore. I would like to try a PBEM game, how do I go about it. Preferably, I would like to find one that uses the Hero System format (or something very close), and one that would allow for a flexible schedule. If any one has information that could be helpful, I would greatly appreciate it.
  23. benefits of membership? I like the ad, but what can you do for my hero? What's your master medical, prescription coverage, salary, and or lodging, not to mention pension benefits? How long would it take to be 100% vested? Anyway, thanks for the post, cool idea. Are you actually looking for a PBEM game group, or just soliciting heros for ideas on backgrounds. Possibly collecting the information gathered and creating your own versions of the characters presented?
  24. the "watercolor" pic I liked the pic, with Champions and other predominantly "hero" based games, it is refreshing to see a character not dressed in spandex. I liked the sense of motion and style of the pic, whether intended or not. It provides the right feel for the character Some pictures are great with specific detail and vivid colors, but the feeling can be lost in the "glossy" finish. Nice pic, and thank you for posting it for free.
  25. Same reference, the Daredevil CD - "I won't back down", by Fuel I think, not sure it's packed in a box, just moved.
