  1. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine Heh. Now you've done it! Here's two takes on Seeker, one using the "slim" and the other using the "heroic" proportions template. I personally prefer the slim version. But figured that others might see things differently, so did the other one as well.
  2. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine OH!! SWEET!!!!! *GRABS*
  3. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine Here are the 3 characters from my current Champions game. The Marvels. They have a common origin as tech heroes created by The Engineer. To this day, they're not sure if they escaped or if she let them think they did... Shocker is an Electricity energy blaster and the team leader. Her suit helps her channel her powers. She can create pseudo physical "constructs" such as electrical cages and even a Tron-like "Light Cycle" that allows her extremely fast travel. Kabuto is a power suit character in the tradition of Kamen Rider. He has multiform of different armors and abilities that he can change into via subspace teleportation. Shown here is his most common, all-purpose combat suit. Gets a lot of his power from a combination of the suit's speed and his martial arts prowess. The Mechanic is another power wearer, but his suit is very much more direct and straight forward. Not shown here are the waldos that can deploy from his backpack. As well as a shield, gun, and other devices that he can wield. He is the team's technical expert and gadgeteer. Of them all, he has the best grasp of the technology behind their suits and powers. And is constantly in the shop coming up with new gadgets and tweaks to their suits. (And BTW, I just ran the "Ultimate Snake Men" section of Sharper than a Serpent's Tooth this previous evening. They fought and defeated the Ultimates - by THEMSELVES! I had other NPC heroes in the wings I was ready to drop into the fight in order to assist them, but they fought smart and WAY out of their weight class! Extra XP and kudos to them!)
  4. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine Here's Lora Doubet - also from Surbrook's Kazei 5 PBEM game.
  5. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Having gotten wise to the whole "screamer" trick that's been on the web the last couple of years, I had the sound turned down and was waiting for the last 5 seconds or so. Said to myself - "Yup... screamer. Old and predictable by now."
  6. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Chuck Yeager would be delighted! A Radio Controlled B-29 and Bell X 1! SWEET!!! And the X-1 detaches and fires it's rockets to go zooming skywards!! Excuse me while I GEEK OUT!!! (The vid runs a little over long in my opinion by about a minute, but otherwise is terrific!)
  7. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Great renditions of Champions villains above, there! I've been playing one myself. Mechanon! (Or to use his in-game name - Mechanon Prime). Naturally, I had to make him a mastermind. And here he is with his current coterie of robotic servants/cannon fodder. He is still researching a new, even more powerful robot that will be the capstone to his strike team. (in other words, I'm still not quite high enough level to get the Assault Bot). Btw, good old "tuning fork head" here is at the absolute maximum height the game will allow. The legs stretched out and the antennae add a little bit more. He's almot as tall as the assault bot will be! Tom Servo: "I'm HUGE!!!" (Which looks darned impressive, but makes cave missions already more of a headache than they are. (Damn low ceilings... grumble).
  8. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Actually, they sorta kinda do. Under the Defender/Controller "Storm" power pool. But those are not all wind powers. The only two "wind" powers are "Gale", which is a fairly weak cone effect good for knockback mainly. And "Hurricane", which is far more useful as a tool for denying melee attacks. The rest are more like ice and rain powers.
  9. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Holy CRAP! Check out the new dance club Pocket D! I don't know if any of you frequented the old Paragon Dance Party. But included in the latest patch of the game is a complete revamp of the whole "dance club" concept! The old club was simply a warehouse festooned with laser and neon lights. Had a kind of grungy low tech "rave" feel to it. It was kind of a cool concept. But there wasn't much to it beyond that. The people at Justice Radio tried to spice it up by having their DJ "toons" stationed in there while they did their webcast music playing. But even that faded after awhile. They migrated to other locations, like Atlas Park and places where people could actually, you know... FIND them. Because while the whole "secret" entrance thing was kind of a nice concept, it wasn't really practical in game play. Too many people couldn't find the club. And the closest entrance for "lowbies" was at the far end of Steel Canyon. ALL of this has changed. First - the name of the place has changed. It's no longer "Paragon Dance Party", it's now "Pocket D". Since the club is interdimensional, the choice of name is an obvious pun. Second - the locations have changed. There are antrances in Kings Row, Talos Island, and Founders Falls. There are no longer entrances at Steel Canyon and Independence Port. (The latter gets no tears from me. Who wants to go to an entrance on the power station island right next to a bunch of Devouring Earth?) As noted above, there is still an entrance in Talos Island. If you go to the old entrances, there's a bum slouched there telling you that the place is closed. Next - the entrance locations are ACTUALLY ON THE MAP!! Making it easy to find the club! The entrances are also very different. Whereas before, you simply go through a door, now, depending on what zone you enter at, there are different methods for accessing the club. In Talos Island, you still go through doors. But they've moved to a spot right next to the Freedom Corp center (the training enhancements store). In Founders Falls, you enter through a manhole under one of the bridges, and in Kings Row, you step into the back of a panel van! Once you're there, the initial entrance area looks kind of similar to the warehouse entrances of the old PDP. But it's cleaner and better lit. And there are bouncers at the doors! You enter an elevator at the end of the main corridor and whe you come out, that's when it _really_ gets cool! This place is WILD. I don't want to give TOO much away, because you really need to see this for yourself. But TRUST ME. It's worth it. There's all kinds of nooks and crannies to this place that you'll want to explore. And there are some VERY interesting NPCs hanging out in here! And - here's where it gets even better. Villains can now access the club. And it's a neutral zone. And you can actually team up in here! There is a portal off of the dance floor and there are hospital rezzing stations off in the corners of the club. So presumably, there may be missions that can start in the club where heroes and villains can cooperate! All in all, a big hearty KAMPAI to the whole renovation!!! It's fantastic!
  10. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Dude - that guy you quote above would do The Tick proud! In fact, that sounds almost like it came directly from the animated Tick! I am in awe... The following is a quote that's not from a gaming group, but I intend to _use_ it in a gaming situation as soon as possible. History channel was doing a "World's Fastest" Modern Marvels show. And the worlds current fastest production car is Koenigsegg CCR, at 241 MPH. The quote is from the owner of the company - "If you can't see the future, it's because you're not driving fast enough!" Now THAT's a man I want to buy a beer for!
  11. Just what ya see, pal. This... is too damn cool. Here's some pics someone took... Brooklyn Superhero Supply Sign Shelf 1 Shelf 2 Invisibility Testing Secret ID! Sidekickery I found this as a post on the City of Heroes forums. The original poster had this to say about the BSSC. - Now how cool is THAT??? I must visit this place at least once before I die. Heh. Never had a reason to go to Brooklyn before. NOW I do!!!
  12. Re: Page one of the V&V Conversions is up! Great Stuff, Proditer! Ah... memories... I too, loved the maps they provided in their products. Y'know what though? The Crusaders base was missing an important element - bathrooms! Where do you go to the bathroom in this place? BTW, the links to Jeff Dee's site don't work.
  13. Re: DC Animated U Campaign? Oh - thought of something else. All the DC characters origins are as close to their pre-crisis versions as they can be, with only a few minor tweaks here and there. (Jonathan and Martha Kent still being alive, Wally West being the FIRST Flash instead of the second, etc...) Don't know if it matter much, except as background. But thought I'd throw that one in.
  14. Re: DC Animated U Campaign? Genre laws? Well - first off - it's definitly mostly silver age storytelling. It's a "modern" silver age with maybe just a touch of bronze. There are consequences for every action taken. But good deeds are, for the most part, rewarded the way we all wish they would be in real life. Animated DCU is recognisably the 20th century. But precisely what year is never said or hinted at, and it should never be. Gangsters dress like gangsters, not like sports stars. But they may be carrying uzis and glocks instead of tommyguns. There was a war a generation ago, but it's never clear whether that was WWII, the Korean War, Vietnam or the Gulf War. Technology never seems to quite become obsolete. There are prop planes and black and white TV alongside of computers and the internet. Reporters write in notepads instead of using palm pilots. Cameras use hand held flashes. But bleeding edge tech exists in equal measure. The tech base is all over the map. If it needs to exist for the story it does. But there's a lot of stylistic cues from mid-century and before. Gotham is "modern gothic". Metropolis is "world of the future art deco". We don't know about other cities yet. In short - never EVER say outright what the year is. It's not important. You can couch things in terms of how many years ago something happened. But never give an outright date for the year. There - that ought to get the ball rolling.
  15. Re: The "real" Golden Age vs the "nostalgic" Golden Age Yup - Sturgeon's Law. Which states that 90% of everything is crap. However, there is also the corollory to Sturgeon's Law, which states - "However, 60% OF that 90% is GOOD crap."
  16. Re: Superhero Images Seeker!!! And the name wasn't even taken already!! (At least not on the test server) Again, he didn't exist longer than it tok to get the screenshots, so if anyone feels the urge to have fun with our favorite cheezy Australian Ninja on the test server, feel free!
  17. Re: Superhero Images (I made a seperate thread for this, since I wasn't sure if a City of Heros related post should be added to the Superhero images thread. But I got next to ZERO response on this. So I'm reposting it here anyway. I apologise for the cross-posting.) Okay - so Issue 4 is on the test server. Some interesting new costume options are available. I'm having some fun playing around with things in the Icon tailor shop and/or with the initial character generator on test. Idly checking in on the Hero boards and see Sapphire in the little box over there to the left. *DING* Saaay... I wonder if... Well I'll be darned! She DOES work! Sooo... What other Champions characters can be reproduced? Defender? I used the color scheme from the wallpaper/sideart image. Wasn't able to really get his helmet visor right. But I think that mostly looks like him. How about Ironclad? Not bad, but there aren't any kilts in City of Heros, so it's either briefs or long pants. I went with briefs. They also don't have the right kind of gloves. Or soleless boots. But I think the overall effect is in the right direction. The last one above is to show some scale. He's nearly at the top hright available, minus a few inches. I didn't think Ironclad was more than about 7 feet tall. I'm not able to reproduce Knighthawk AT ALL, mostly because COH hasn't got anything even approaching a hood or a helmet with a beak on it. More's the pity, I'd love to be able to do a Gatchaman homage... I thought reproducing Witchcraft would be relatively easy, but it's not. The wrap-around robe/blouse she wears doesn't fit nearly anything in the COH wardrobe. It's actually easier to make Solitare from the old 4th ed Champions. I'd make a screenshot, but I haven't figured out yet how to take a picture from the costume shop window. I liked the idea of showing you all the results, but I'm not forking over the influence/"cash" for a one shot costume that I'd be deleting in 5 minutes anyway. (BTW, none of the above characters existed longer than it took to get the screenshots.) Besides, it makes for a fun challenge! Can anyone else reproduce some Champions universe characters in City of Heros costume generator?

  20. Re: Superhero Images My superhero wears this T-Shirt lounging around the base. Actually, the original was created by Rob Shannon - it's based on a cel he bought at Anime Expo some years back. It's from Gatchaman 94. And the original was "Join Galactor..." But I thought it would be cool to modify it some.
  21. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... At work, while between calls, a friend in the next cube over is enthused about a new game he's playing called Ancient Worlds. "I'm conquering the Galaxy! I mean... the planet!!... I mean, this island here!..." "Dude, that's England..." "I've got it under control!!"
  22. Re: Attn: Logan Darklighter...or other Golddigger fans. GAH!!! Sorry for not noticing this thread sooner. I think Mike Surbrook had actually mentioned in passing that there had been a shout out to me on the boards here, but I may have been tired and going to bed and forgot to check on it. Pretty much all the info has already been passed on and is accurate. All I can really do is say "what he said" in confirmation. Comment - Fred has said that he will bring the whole series to a close in the near future and that he doesn't want to be doing Gold Digger indefinately. I guess that goes a way toward explaining why he is trying to "tie all the loose ends up". I disagree that the character development for the Diggers sisters has run it's course. Brittany is still becoming used to being a mom. Brianna still has a few surprises left in her unusual relation to magic. Gina has mostly finished her character arc from self-serving adventurer to serious explorer. But I see some potential tweaks to go woth her potential time travel/nomad artificer future self. And even THAT might be a curve ball Fred could throw our way. There's been at least one fan who suggested that Madrid might be the future Gina unknowingly. It's kinda like Babylon 5 - you think you know the end point of the story. But it's the HOW and the WHY they got there that becomes the point of the story. And that's not even getting into the fact that the Lich King has possessed Britanny and what THAT means for the future! Nevertheless, I agree that more time spent with other characters is a good thing. Especially since EVERY character Fred creates has potential for greatness, it seems. Or at least a lot of fun. I don't know that ALL the superheroes decided on this course of action. THe Avenger seems to have decidedly gone her own way. Who knows how many others might have as well? Anyway - Here's a few previews of upcoming covers tp GD that ought to whet your appetite. (Gotta love the "Shotgun" wedding one. That looks like it's going to be a FUN issue!! )
  23. Re: Crisis of Infinite Foxbats I take no responsibility for this. My roommate is looking over my shoulder laughing like a goon. Well... to be fair, I'm laughing like a goon as well. But the following is HIS idea! Not mine! From the great mind of George Romero, the Zombie Freddy... Yes, that's right... NIGHT OF THE LIVING FOXBAT!!
  24. Re: Supervillain Images Say - here's something I can post in this thread. Most of my stuff is heroes or good guys. But this - I almost forgot I had done this one. Does anybody remember Tsai Min the Dragon Queen from the 4th ed of VIPER? Well, this my take on her. I was kinda sad to see that she wasn't updated to 5th edition. She was an interesting character. One of the options for VIPER as an alternative to the alien probe AI as the leader of VIPER in the 4th ed version was to make _her_ the Supreme Serpent.
  25. Can't stop laughing!!! I'm getting high on the oxygen debt! Help!
