1. Re: Magical Knight Ok thanks for the input. I was thinking of having a horse for movement speed etc but did not think of the physical manifestation for it for a power instead of a points for a companion etc. He is currently just an idea for a NPC, possibly a henchman for the Black Paladin or a foe from his past etc (or possibly a character if anyone else runs Champions, but with my group unlikely ). My thoughts for the multiple Foci was the current group have a Telekenetic and Teleporter who spend most of the time disarming anyone with Foci. The sword returning to his hand after they had got it would be good just for them to try it and then it return.
2. Re: Resistance vs. Striking Appearance But thinking about it any + for resisting striking appearance would also have a - for perception hearing and sight. You could always have the anti striking appearance talent that costs the same and you just do not believe anything that any good looking person says to you.
3. Re: Resistance vs. Striking Appearance It could be developed also as gadget with something to flash defence for sight and hearing to give bonus to resist striking appearance. Polarised mask lenses to distort the visual aspects and a recorded message to ear defenders "remember the last time you listened to a good looking male / female, it all went bad, fluttering of eye lashes is a bad sign, remember the wife (other DNPC) etc".
4. Re: Hello new hero here. Depends what sub system you want to play. Super Hero characters tend to be the top end of the scale of starting at 350 - 400 (average comic book character) and going up to 1,000s for some games to mimic the top end scale of the Hulks and Thor sort of scale heroes. Or you could go really low for a 100 to mimic character with one or two powers. Depends on the era you want to play. The rest usually goes lower but I do not know the average for non super hero games.
5. I am thinking of an NPC magical knight. Story being an archaeologist researching his family history finds an old broken sword in a tomb belonging to an ancestor. He picks up the broken sword and gives him super powers connected to a Knight of the round table. (This NPC may turn into a good guy or a bad guy) In times of trouble the broken sword which he carries around reforms into a full sword and he also gains a suit of armour and a shield as well (or has to carry around these rusted pieces of armour). So I am thinking normal person transforms into hero. Does the limitations OAF -1 (or is it lower?) and only usable in alternative identity - ¼ seem reasonable for a sword and a shield? Or is this too much? Similar sort of things for the armour OIF – ½ and UIAI – ¼ also with characteristics (+STR, DEX, CON SPD, BODY, STUN etc as well as resistant ED / PD). Also how about multipower Sword with HKA (obviously), or HTH (flat of the blade), or magical blast attacks. All in same multipower? Magical shield multipower, + to DCV (endurance to use), or deflection, or damage reduction (endurance to use), or HTH (shield bash). All with -1 ¼ limitations? (They pick the power they want to use at the time. All powers need endurance to use (swinging around a heavy shield). Also if you have a weapon tie (+STR only to resist disarms) would this negate some of the OAF? Thanks for any imparted wisdom
6. Re: Limited FTL Travel My players want everything. Viper flying bike that Viper left behind - how much? They hired a Winnebago to travel over America. They wanted to buy one (then strap on a zeplin to have a flying Winnebago!). Sensible things for a base / equipment - no! Not my group . I said the flying Winnebago was too complicated to cost so they could not have it! The fact they have a Teleporter who can teleport 5,000km doesnt count for anything they want a flying Winnebago!!!!!!
7. Re: Limited FTL Travel My characters if they found it would want to know the cost so they could work out how much they would need to invest in it to move it to their base and get it operational so they could use it. They would start the first see the other side of the universe tours and get all the rich interested (like be the first to go into space in a space plane).
8. Re: Multiform The Hulk is not a good example. In his true form he would be 1,000 points plus (see other threads). If the other players were also 1,000 point characters having a MF that gave Banner a few hundred points and the rest into MF to get to 1,000 points would be a way of doing it. But in that example Banner and the Hulk would in most campaigns increase in character points at the same rate and not all into the Hulk. But I think you say your character was an example and not a plan for a real game. No GM I know would allow one character to create a character with MF and allow all of the points to be spent into MF so one form gets to be 5 times as powerful as the rest of the group. It all about game balance for the whole group. Unless the entire group has MF which means you all accelerate at the same rate. In my game the MF's are weaker than the rest of the group (2 x 325 and a 400 instead of 3x 400) and have dramatically different skills and powers from each other. And each are progressing at the same speed.
9. Re: Limited FTL Travel Well it could be exactly like Star gate. Teleportation Gate Mega scale area of effect 1m = 1km (so a gate multi km wide to get really big ships through), mega scale weight (to allow big ships to be transported) Mega scale teleport range to get beyond the solar system. Possibly with the limitation must have functional gate on the other end. So a lot of character points to get all these mega scales in.
10. Re: Multiform This is how I read the Multiform (correct me if I am wrong!). You have a character based on the campaign maximum (in my players case is 400). You then pay the points into multiform to get your character point maximum and any extra forms (in my players case it was 70 points to make 2 characters of 325 points, so one 400 point and two 325 point characters). You can then decide to give any of your characters Multiform. It does not have to be the main character it can be one of the new forms and this becomes the true form character (my player chose to put the multiform into one of the 325 point characters so allowing the 400 to have more focus on powers other than multiform). The general rule is that the true form character is the one who gets the experience. Your alternative forms do not gain experience. As 1 experience is 1 character point and if this is invested into the Multiform this would be 5 character points for your other multiform so this would not please every other player in your group if you did this every time so gaining 5 for every one of theirs making your alternative forms grow larger and larger compared to everyone else. So the general rule is all your experience is given to your true form character. Only 1 character point in 6 is allowed to be placed in your multiform so giving 5 character points for your True form to invest in other skills and powers and 5 character points for your alternative forms (effectively 10 character points from 6) This keeps all character moving at a similar rate from the experience.
11. Re: 6th Edition Character Sheet Steve has a copy of the Excel character sheet now.
12. Re: Idea to art by Storn. Year 8 Well the small dragon Tetsuya is very small (large domestic cat ~5kg) and also has chameleon powers so you could just have its head and some of its neck and the rest would be an out of phase shape of the back ground or part of Melinda. So about a 10th of a character? And Longwei the large dragon would be just be a shape on a full moon (possibly breathing fire) so really not a lot of extra figures. . Or you could go the whole hog of all three of them close up with Tetsuya with the chameleon shape effect in the front with Melinda crouching behind in sexy / heroic pose and then the large form of a dragon in the background with the head just over Melinda’s shoulder looking menacing (lick of flame or smoke of just about to get burnt to a crisp sort of moment). All totally different, apart for a dragon theme going through it and the eyes will all be the same. How is that for a couple of ideas for a picture?
13. Re: Chemical enhancements with an addiction probability Obvious side effect would be that with overuse you get less effect for the power. So have a charge effect with a house rule that beyond a set number of charges in a set time the number of charges required increases for no power increase. The charges have a limited recharge rate. So if you are using up the charges too fact you lose the power until you go cold turkey (I this a recognised USA term?) and get your charge rate back. Or have a limitation that is in place that is a major effect when you have no or only a few charges left on the power (minus on INT, PRE, DEX etc). This could be a multipower limitation for all his chemical induced powers so use lots of powers you get to your low charge rating faster. I am a chemist (not a chemical abuser!).
14. Re: Idea to art by Storn. Year 8 I haven’t read any of the previous years or quite know what’s going on but here’s my attempt. A bit of a complicated one for one picture: Melinda: Dragon lady multiform heroine, tall, strong, long flowing hair, blown in the wind on top of a high building (British land marks in the background ), mostly green suit but with mask that reveals reptilian eyes and slightly enlarged fangs. With either a conceptual picture of one or both of her other forms of a small impish dragon (with mind powers) in the fore ground looking her in the eyes. And / or a large fire breathing dragon passing over a full moon in the background. A sort of if one sort of dragon can’t get the job done one of the others can sort it out sort of picture.
15. Re: Superpowers and Ethics I looks like most people are saying that having a character with mind control powers that do not have the limitation of maximum EGO +10 (force someone to do something they wouldn’t mind doing) can only be taken by villains. I think there is some confusion with unethical and being evil / criminal. Lots of heroes will have powers that can be used in unethical ways (a blast attack to take out a bridge support to slow down Grond therefore doing lots of damage and a big bill to the local tax payers etc) but if it is for a greater good (Grond being imprisoned and not killing thousands in the ensuing rampage) and if the hero makes amends for its unethical ways it would not be evil or criminal (rebuilds bridge etc). A hero with mind control powers to make a villain to force him not press a button that will kill hundreds of people is not evil or criminal. Is may be unethical but it is the same effect if another hero knocking them away with a blast attack. Mind controlling people to be sex slaves, go on rampages with a gun is unethical and evil and criminal. Mind controlling people to gain financial benefits is criminal (and possibly evil if you also count tax evaders as evil etc). It is the end effects of your actions that should be judged not how you got there (that and a good lawyer )
16. Re: Free no character point equipment simulating not very powerful powers Thanks Orion. Lots of good advice. I have a character taking pictures with a cell and am allowing it (sort of). He got some information from the pictures. What phone does not have one these days. But as you say what phone does not have internet access that will give you general knowledge skills and even specific super villain KS. Or possibly there is a special villain team specialised in internet propaganda that just fills the internet full of wrong information about villains (and hero's). So the Wiki page on that villain gets constantly filled full of wrong information (Cybermind getting a fee for anti-knowledge programs filling every entry with random false information and updating it when it gets changed back??). If every open source web entry had this villain has this power but it was a Cybermind program filling every unsecure and a few secure ones with duff information this would kill the internet searches. So any non skilled internet search would be a 8- or lower (rolled by the GM in secret) to find anything useful and a higher roll would be all false information. A very high roll would find nothing. So who knows if you get the right information. Only a paid for KS gets you the information.
17. Re: Free no character point equipment simulating not very powerful powers Thanks for the feed back. looking at it he has spent 5 points on the money and various points on the teleport so as people have said he has invested some points already. I just did not want to give him stuff for "free". I think I will use a combination of a VPP with a long time frame to find things and get back. I think I will now throw it back at him and say what does he want on his list and take it from there.
18. I have just completed this week’s game and the teleporter in the party (the one I have mentioned before) who is filthy rich (500,000 a year perk) has said that he want to build an equipment pool at one of his teleport focus points with lots of easy to buy stuff like torches (night vision cone area effect), re-breathers (environmental survival etc), ropes, survival equipment, (if we were in the USA he would have probably given a whole list of easily obtained guns), etc, etc, and have it ready so he can teleport in and grab it and then teleport out (he also does not want to supply a list). Obviously all these bits of equipment are useful, will simulate powers and if bought for a single character would cost lots of character points. Having explained again and again that anything that simulates a power has to be balanced and costed and paid in character points. He does not think so as everyone can buy torches and use them etc so why not having a store of such equipment as he can go and get them. Can anyone assist with this frustrating example! How do I explain that logically, yes you can do this in the real world when you have lots of money and easy access to it. But cannot do this in a Champions world? We are mid game so cannot work it into his character that easy. Every character could have a free torch. A free no frills mobile (cell phone). But what else is given for free? These are experienced role players from other systems where yes you have equipment lists as long as your arm so why not? Obviously this could be covered by a gadget pool. I do not have access to any gadget books so would have make things up especially as he may not give me a list to work on. I am having problems explaining money and character points. If anyone has previous experience it would be greatly appreciated.
19. Re: 6th Edition Character Sheet OK thanks. Should have rembered about ZIP! DOH! I tried to zip it using Windows 7 and it did not recognise the format so would not upload it! I will try other means later.
20. Re: 6th Edition Character Sheet No one interested in a Excel spread sheet that calculates costs and can be used as a 6th edition character sheet? I have tried to upload an example of the print out. It has several more pages to cover a whole character sheet from characteristics to powers to background to picture. I can not upload the excel sheet as it is not allowed (or I have done it wrong) It works better than a PDF as it number crunches the character for you. If anyone can get it approved it is a good program (I have done very little to it to upgrade it so it is all down to the previous writer) and I am sure I got the original from a link here. I am just trying to assist.
21. Re: 6th Edition Character Sheet I have updated the Excel spread sheet from D. Michael Basinger from 5th Edition to 6th Edition. I can not upload it to here as it does not have the allowed file extension and do not want to cheat to get it on. Anyone got any suggestions for some one to try it out and get it into the free area? All I have done is moved things around and removed references to version 5. It number crunches everything. There may be some mistakes as I am not a very good with Excel but it does most things.
22. Re: Conceptual Idea: A world full of supers
23. Re: Conceptual Idea: A world full of supers Or puberty? “Well Janice your Billy is 12, what power scale are you hoping for turning blue or powers that are equivalent to Dr Destroyer?” All bullied children could have a threat “well when my powers manifest and I become powerful I will pay you back for these years of pain!!!!” I think the heroes main job will not be fighting crime but depending on the manifestation age helping parents controlling out of control children!!!!!!
24. Re: Conceptual Idea: A world full of supers Everyone has super powers? At what age would they appear? Birth? Think of all the problems for parents. Child proofing the house if little Tommy has flight or teleport? Three year old has a temper tantrum and starts throwing furniture through the walls? How would you make things safe for a child with a rather feeble game terms but fantastic 4 year old power, 3D6 lightning blast “cool mummy what can I hit next”? Especially of mum is only I can turn blue girl?
25. Re: 6th Edition Brick I wish this thread had been going 4 months ago as I would have modified my groups characters to incorporate lots of the suggestions about relative speed / DC’s etc into the party balance. Not just the brick. I am learning a lot from the various chats. I have the problem of little Hero system experience and none of my players have the experience or any books and it is only threads like this where idea’s get bounced of each other that you think “yes that is logical” and I would have taken years of game play to come to that. The problem is I have the characters already developed for 9 game sessions so they may not appreciate a “Ok guys I’ve changed my mind and here are your new characters with slightly different stats some decreased and others increased”. But then it never happens in the comics does it???
