  1. Re: New players, gm, UMA Charge and 34d6 damage There is much to be agreed with about the posters above. One note; Especially with Hero, review your characters. For the last 15 years or so, I've created all the PC's characters (Granted with them right beside me and part of the process as we went along), if anyone decides to do their own, they have to submit it to me in advance (Usually about a week before the game in question). I have one player who is learning (has been working on it for the last 3 years or so, and we don't always play, much less play Hero, so it's not a solid 3 years to be sure), but he'll call me with thoughts and ideas... This is a game that the GM not only has the right to check character builds, he's encouraged to do so. Secondarily, If you feel that your just confused by the builds that your players have submitted, tell them that you're going to review them for another week/ few days longer, then put them in a post here, and submit them to the community for review... I'm sure that the collected group of Herodom will definitely help you out. Not to mention, you have a written record for each character as to why very experienced players and GM's would or would not allow this that or the other thing so your players don't just think that your being a bit too harsh or whatever. You've come to a good place, the folks here are nice and enjoy bringing more players into the fold; so, grab a seat, welcome to the table, and enjoy a great game system. OH, and the Hero Designer is a great program... especially if your running the game, I honestly think that you should have it near you. I always have a laptop open and HD up on cue... sometimes I use it a lot, other times I never touch it... But it's very helpful. One might say that it's yet another core component to the system. Good luck with working things out.
  2. Re: Lantern Corps...Only Not Na, the white Lanterns are going to be when Hal Jordan takes all the rings (ala the infinity gauntlet) and with that power makes them into the White lantern, the combination of all the powers, and the one that can wipe out the black lanterns... my take... I now return you to the regularly scheduled discussion.
  3. Re: When sfx lie LOL, I seem to be following you around today Egyptoid, it's unintentional, but funny. I think part of the problem with DCV representing a "hit" that didn't do anything really (for me anyway) has it's roots in D&D. Seriously, I would have allowed the first build you wrote up just because mentally I'd be (unknowingly, and now I can see it because I've been thinking about this as I've been reading the responces). That's what AC does. Shield = AC, Dodge = AC, Armor = AC, bracers = AC.... all in all everything in 'ol grandpaw is all a buff to the Armor Class (the to hit number). Thus if you come to me with a build that says (in essence), 'you hit, but not really,' for me it's a no brainer because I've been doing it for years. I can see that SFX, I've seen them since I was 11 years old and wondered (on a conceptional level) why when I don my armor does my AC go down, and Dex does the same thing, but for different reasons. I had a Paladin recently with a shield build multiplier, and for good or bad, I allowed it... the player gave it up due to too much book keeping. 1) Taking the Brunt (25% resistant DR) 2) Deflection (DCV Buff) 3) Causal resistance (PD Buff) 4) Shield Bash (Hand Attack) I saw someone who was skilled at using a shield able to do different things with it, and so I allowed it. But as you've said you know you can "get around shields." I guess my end point is just that you bring up a good point, but anyone who has played D&D already accept the idea that a boost in the "to Hit" effect is a decent model for "didn't do damage." Now that I've figured out the how I see it this way, I'm conflicted as to whether I should continue to.... hmmmm
  4. Re: Lantern Corps...Only Not Not to step on you there Egyptoid, but I think for a warrior virtue, Violet would be better served as Nobility. (you know, purple is the "noble color" so I think it would fit)... and I got nothing for orange.
  5. Re: HERO SYSTEM MARTIAL ARTS -- What Do *You* Want To See?
  6. Re: HERO SYSTEM MARTIAL ARTS -- What Do *You* Want To See? It's been touched on here a bit, and to say I agree with most of the comments... and most especially the martial arts are one of the best and most defining characteristics of Hero, and to fiddle with them too much would be folly. I think (as some have said) that a discussion at the very least, but preferably more "Swishy-Poke" Martial arts would be cool. I know there is fencing, and Kenjitsu, however I also know there are a ton of fencing schools out there, and there once were more... German Schlager as one example (don't know much other than there are still a lot of blades that you can get today that are designed for the art). It's nice to have a bunch of pre-made martial arts for your campaign, however if I'm doing a 3 Musketeer, Pirates, or any other "Swishy-Poke" game, I've got to take what little is there for fencing, and make several very different schools of fighting. It would be nice to have some more tools to do that with, or at least a discussion on how to go about it, if not several more schools written up, instead of just "fencing." I like the Idea of some of the Lucha Lebre stuff making it's way in... I think there is some under-representation of wrestling maneuvers, and that would be pretty jazzy. I'd also like to see some more reasoning for taking "more" martial maneuvers would be appropriate, at least a paragraph or two breaking it down so we can discuss it in our groups. I think that's all I have at the moment. Keep up the good 6e stuff, this is the next book of greatness that I'm awaiting... tee he he.
  7. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive I'll be sitting here beside myself, my books finally arrived.
  8. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive Well, the postman just rang the doorbell..... and.......... a small box for my father... *Sigh* Two more days to see if I get my books by December. It's good to see so many are getting theirs. I'll wait till the first, if I don't see anything by then I'll try another PM to Tina.
  9. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive Nada for me yet.... *sigh*
  10. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive I'm going into thanksgiving, and still nothing on the book front. Mail man came and went... *sigh*. Waiting sucks.
  11. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive Nor me three.
  12. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive Still nothing for this little puppy.
  13. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive I'm also waiting on my GenCon order, but my FLGS hasn't gotten their books in. However interestingly enough, their distributor just got in one of the books, but not both, so soon the store will have only 6e1 or 6e2, but not both for at least a week, as the distributor hasn't gotten the other in yet. That's gotten Dave (store owner) a bit confused. However they have the APG out on shelves and sold out of the Basic rule book.
  14. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive Another last name of H, and nada.
  15. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive Also still waiting.
  16. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive I'm in the still waiting category as well.
  17. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive Well, I got my APG this weekend, and the mail man came and went and didn't leave any 6e goodness. I guess the Lame mule has to cross back across the states, until it winds south into Phoenix... *sigh* I guess I've got to leave Ode de APG at the front step. :}
  18. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive I only have a few hours left to see if mine come today. I'm hopeful.
  19. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive WHA... Uh... er.... uh... wh... ma... but... ehh... AWWwwwwwww butiwantedthem.... I guess I wait to see if they don't come on monday. *sigh*
  20. Re: And 6e print books start to arrive Well, I suppose tomorrow will be another day of waiting for my book to arrive. Still nothing .
  21. Re: Clockworks, a Steampunk/Fantasy Comic *Wolf takes hand from AnotherSkip, and pads over to his corner, chewing.* mfgum bew... er.. *Takes hand out of mouth* Thank you. *continues chewing*
  22. Re: Movement Multipowers Okay, yah. I've seen this when making builds, (outside of the guy who introduced me to Champions back in '95) I've only ever run games in Hero, and I'm just not that "supers" oriented, so some things are new, I've recently made my wife a few energy projectors, and I've felt that about them. Bla bla MP, 50 points. "main attack"- 10 DC's strait peircing attack- 10 DC's with the modifiers AOE attack- 10 DC's with modifiers... that's how it starts to look to me... Basically I can average out the damage to be near the same (Give or take a bit) for each attack, because they all are at the same point cap, due to the MP... Nice, thanks guys . Gotta say I'm happy for the AOE cost changing, that was one of the only ones that was more for injuring before the brawl starts, or getting minions down a few health, now it feels like a full attack power on her sheet. And about the Con... yah, that would be one.. Thanks for that. I think I was reading into way too much.
  23. Re: Movement Multipowers I'm not quite sure what this means... could you be more specific? It's like the guy who showed me the Hero system... I asked him what you'd use "based on Con" for... he just laughed, and said "you'd know when you'd need it." That really didn't help. heck I'm still trying to figure it out, and he was probably only trying to mess with me. This one though I want to understand. I can see some of it, I just want to know if I've got the gist.
