I like the picture just fine, myself.

IMO a minor critique or question of style here and there isn't unexpected or unwarranted. A second lengthier follow-up post that essentially shows errors, mistakes, the critic's expert knowledge or simply reinforces the original unasked for critique, even after that critique has been addressed, is arrogant and rude. But that could just be me.

Okay, this one hasn't popped up in any of my campaigns, but it came into my mind the other day and I can't think of anywhere else to use it.

NP: Everyone's picking on me. This game is too hard. I quit.

GM: Why is my player base so stagnant?

Hero Games: Why are our sales not going up? Where are all the new players?

Off topic to the thread, but maybe the new player would have a better time, and be up to speed faster, if someone actually helped them, instead of yelling at them and abusing them for making errors. I like to get an experienced player to "buddy" the new player for a few sessions (freeing the GM from this task).

As for technique, I edited a Freedom Force character skin, put it on a mesh, and took a screenshot of it in the Freedom Force character viewer utility, then cleaned that up in PhotoShop.

I'm attaching the character sheet, too.

Here is a birthday present for RDU Neil... guess there is advantages to having a flaky artist in your gaming group .

Pulse is one of Neil's oldest characters in RDU, but rarely gets played because poor ol' Neil is always doing the GMing!

These are the designs I did for the four active players in my campaign.

The team leader is Captain Washington , a flying brick. A "professional superhero", the Captain has a public identity and is considering a run for public office. Both paties are courting him, and he's very popular with the people.

His lieutenant is Red Racer, a former Olympic track & field athelete who discovered she was a latent mutant when a scandal led to mandatory testing. She was drummed out of the sport, fell on hard times, and ended up with VIPER (who used an experimental process to activate her latent genes, giving her speedster powers). She was reformed by the Captain, and now is his most loyal supporter.

Doctor Dyad is a self-trained mentalist and one of the world's foremost psychoanalysts. While very powerful, he's an utter coward in the face of a physical threat. He serves as the teams counselor.

    Howdy to everyone!

Hi there, everyone. I'm a long-time Champions player (first-played back in 1987), and have been looking to get back into the hobby (I even picked up 'Galactic Champions' today after hearing lots of good things about it over at RPGnet).

My big thing is artwork. I'm a professional comic book colourist (I've done too much to list here, but recently I've beed working on the 'Chronicles of Conan' reprint volumes, volumes 1, 3, and 4, as well as volume 5 coming out later this month), and I believe there are even a couple of people on these boards who have commissioned work from me in the past. For those who were on the pre-release City of Heroes boards, I was known there as 'red bee', and had done a lot of different work for people.

Anyway, I thought I'd post a few things here for you all to take a look at. This first one is of my character 'Agent Hermes'. Enjoy!

Another day, another lunchtime ballpoint pen sketch.

The only female player in my group described her character's outfit as "kinda like the original blackwidow". Well, that's just a black bodysuit and a belt from what I remember. Anyway, I made it vaguely like that, although I think she needs to accessorize more

If you die saving lives, you haven't lost. These players have much to be proud of, and I salute them.

I was in a similar situation years ago with a powered armor brick named Ranger. The villains had a tactical nuclear weapon with a 60 second timer in the heart of Manhattan (New York City). Just as Ranger reached the bomb, the countdown started. Ranger immediately grabbed the bomb and flew out towards the harbor, intending to get the bomb as far from the city as possible before it detonated. Ranger is a SPD 4 and was flying at 100" (25" X4 Non-Combat), so every Phase he flew was 200 meters, or 800 meters per Turn. So he was only going to get about 4 kilometers (2½ miles) before it detonated. It was a small nuke, but every little bit he got it away from the city would have spared hundreds if not thousands of innocent lives.

As the countdown reached the 10 second mark, the GM asked me when I was going to drop the nuke and try to escape. Ranger's defenses were very high (62 PD/58 ED; most of it Resistant and Hardened); he might well have survived a nuclear explosion just a couple hundred meters away from Ground Zero. I just smiled at him as he continued the countdown, and I saw the realization dawn in his eyes as he realized Ranger wasn't going to drop the bomb. Ranger was willing to die to save as many people as possible.

Turned out the bomb was a dud. (The GM claims it was damaged during the fight, but I don't know if I really believe that.) But Ranger would have died gloriously if it had detonated.

Please forgive me, Heroes. We've been engaged this entire time. We are now entering turn Three of the final battle, and here's the score:

We have lost three PC's to legit deaths, and a fourth to unconsciousness and being teleported back to his home world. That leaves us with 6 PCs, all of whom are badly hurt but still swinging.

The combat has been taking weeks because there were 10 PC's and 11 Demons total (so far); one fight was 10 PCs vs. 4 demons, which the PC's won after a long fight. Then they went to see where the others were, and it turns out they were outside Darius's lair waiting for us. Phase 12, turn 1...that was a couple of weeks ago.

There are at least 4 demons still alive, maybe more. If we can keep our one PC who has Aid alive through this, we might have a chance.

The best death goes to Phadrae, a transplant from a fantasy campaign, thrown into the regular campaign world against his will. His entire focus has been getting back to his own world, where he was trying to rescue not only his lost love, but his entire world as well. He and one of my PC's, Felix, a heavy-hitter who is 15 playing-years old, were standing over Felix's best friend, Pathos, another 15-year vet, who was unconscious. A demon was bearing down on them, and Felix needed to get Pathos out of immediate danger in the hopes our medic, Seb, could Aid Pathos. (Seb was also out at the time.) Felix turned to Phadrae - worth about 369 points - and said, "Can you handle this one?!" Phadrae glanced at the demon, then faced Felix, and said, "Yes." Felix grabbed Pathos and superleaped out of danger, trusting Phadrae to take care of himself.

Except Phadrae knew - barring a terrible roll by the GM - that this was his last stand. Sure enough, the demon attacked Phadrae instead of Felix, and killed Phadrae instantly by a Killing Blow to the head. It turned out that Phadrae knew he didn't have a chance, but had to help Felix and Pathos survive (since they are two of the four heavy-hitters). He died to give Felix that one extra phase he needed to get to safety. It was truly an honorable, heroic death. I am proud to have witnessed it.

And the tragic, weepy part of the story: One phase later, the demon who was the key to getting back to his own world was killed, instantly teleporting Phadrae and his friend, Axis, back to their fantasy dimension. Phadrae missed this event by one phase.

Felix also lost his brother, Decemitri, to a demon's attack. It was, ironically, Decemitri's first legitimate "street fight." He had trained his entire life to be a martial artist like Felix, but this was the first application of his skills. He was a new addition to the team, and knew very little about the situation; all he knew was that the others believed in something good, and that he would help them to his last breath. Which he did. Another honorable exit.

Finally, Pharaoh, a five-year vet, was also killed. He went down swinging like the others, but was overwhelmed. Still, like Phadrae, he bought the others time they needed to regroup and and make a second attack which is what ultimately turned the tide and dropped four demons. Pharaoh will be remembered.

So the odds are still stacked against the PC's at the moment, but there is a slight ray of hope still gleaming. There's at least one more session of hardcore combat, plus probably another of storytelling/wrap-up. I will post the details when they occur.

Sorry for the delay; none of us appreciated how long it would take to GM and play more than 20 high-powered Champions characters.

    Thanks, everyone.

The GIMP is a very nice piece of work. Took me a bit if work to learn, as I'm sure Photoshop does as well, but most of that was concepts and terminology since I had no experience with any full-featured image manipulation programs.
