  1. I want to build a 'suit' that suppresses the sound of a character's punches and his running.

Would it be appropriate to use a Darkness Damage Shield (AoE Surface) build, or should it be done with two instances of Naked Advantage: Invisible Power Effects for each power (Running and STR)?

I would also like the 'suit' to stop the wearer from being located by sonar as well, if that changes the build method.

  2. Is using enhanced senses in this way valid and not broken?

For a mute character who's primary means of communication with others is by giving empathic sensations/'nudges'.  It only operates within 8m from the character, and may or may not need to take Penetrative...

    34  Detect (Mental Sense Group) Emotions (Large Class; 10), Sense(2), 360 PER(5), Range(5), Discriminatory(5), Transmit(2), Concealed(-5; 5).

The alternative AFAIK would be building something like:

    39 Telepathy 3D6, Alien, Animal, Plant, Machine classes (35 BP), AoE Radius(8m; +½), Reduced END(Zero; +½), IPE(Hide From Targets; +½) (87 AP); No Range(-½), Empathy(-½), Not Through Mind Link(-¼)
    43 Mind Control 3D6, Alien, Animal, Plant, Machine classes (35 BP),Telepathic(+¼), AoE Radius(8m; +½), Reduced END(Zero; +½), IPE(Hide From Targets; +½) (96 AP); No Range(-½), Empathy(-½), Not Through Mind Link(-¼)

Which IMO are massive point expenditures for not much effect.  Not to mention they are way over the game's AP cap...

  3. A character has a Constant or Persistent power with a lengthy startup time (Resistant Defense, for example), and also a the Multiform power.  They have their Resistant Defense power up and running and then choose to Multiform to their different form.  When they revert back, do they have to restart the Resistant Defense from scratch?  I.e., when you Multiform *out* of one form, does that "turn off" all powers that form has?

  4. 6E1 says that a VPP normally takes "between a Turn and a Minute to change", and gives the example Control Cost Limitation of "Only Changes Between Adventures (Takes Days)" of -1/2.  Because of that example, does that preclude someone from putting the Extra Time Limitation of 'Takes 1 Day(-4)' on the Control Cost?  I presume so, but would like something more official than my presumption.

This is just a suggestion, as there can be many ways to build this character set.  Note that GM approval should always be sought after.

One character I played with a long time ago in a town far, far, away (okay, only 30+ miles) had created a character which summoned and mind controlled bodies.  The hero could not move and basically had a mental link with each of these android bodies.  We (the other players) thought the body was the player until one day we were accidentally transported to another dimension and the summon body didn't do anything except say "Error: Communication lost" ...

You might take this idea and say the energy being portal to this realm is fixed and immovable and he summons android bodies to interact with it.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking, except for my character it wouldn't be a link - he would be *in* the body's "mind"/CPU Core.  Think kinda like how Shadowcat can phase and "hide" inside of another X-Man, like Colossus.  Obviously she is not controlling him - but she is inside him, phased.  If he gets killed, she would still be there, phased.

This is fairly similar to what I was thinking, but...  The body is built as a follower?  What happens if the follower/android body is killed?  It's not like followers grow on trees...

What about building the body as a vehicle?  While they too don't grow on trees they can be manufactured, and the second one doesn't have any reservations from knowing the first one getting destroyed.

  6.

In the case of energy body, you wouldn't be able to use Always On, since it isn't a limitation at all.

I might suggest it would be easier to write yourself up as an AI, with Computer Link and go from there. Someone destroys the "body" (computer) you are possessing, and like the Nazgul you are bodiless until you find another computer to inhabit.

And Computer Programming is almost a Power itself in many games considering how flexible it is, is WAY cheaper and frankly better suited.

What is the reasoning for saying AO is not useable?  It would be his natural state, and not something he can (easily) turn off at will - kinda like a ghost's Desolid.  It is Inherent into the existence, and thus AO.

  7. Hi assembled Hero-ites,

I would like some advice for building a creature that is basically an "energy being".  I am thinking of it having the attributes of being able to interface with - and possibly even "possess" - computers.  But while not "possessing" a computer and existing as an independent entity is basically Desolid all the time.  This may or may not be in a game with the existence of "Cyberspace" - would that choice make a difference on the interfacing/possessing aspects?

Question:  Should I buy Desolid + Zero END + Persistent + Inherent - Always On, in addition to a Physical Complication of being intangible with the exception of computer systems?

Question: Should I buy Mind Control and Telepathy (both Machine Class of Mind), or just a very high Computer Programming roll, or for some reason both?

Question:  Are any of the other mental powers useable in dealing with Computers/Cyberspace?

    Thanks much for your input!

  8. The example provided in the rules is a blob that looks like it takes a pile of damage, but it just keeps coming.

At some point the amount of damage it looks like it has taken (but hasn't because of DEF+IPE) it going to strain even the most gullible of players' belief.  If they hit that blob with an attack that would level a city, and would turn other blobs into a red (or green if copper-based) paste on the ground - and it appears to do the same here, yet the blob still keeps going...  What would you tell the players then?

  9. That part of the discussion goes WAY back. It started with the suggestion that the effects of Obvious powers were themselves obvious, which suggests I can see how much BOD damage he took. If that is Obvious, so is whether or not he is dead.

You and I would both rule that whether the target is dead, knocked out, knocked prone or chose to fall prone is not obvious without excellent perception, extra time, etc. - it's not Obvious, no PER roll required, as the RAW define an attack power.

Similarly, I think a target hit by a gun can clutch the wound, double over and be believed severely injured - until he moves his hands and there's no blood - even if his rDEF is not purchased IPE. It would be a lot easier if they were, since he would then bleed like he had been shot.

While the effect of an Obvious power may be Obvious (it causes a wound with SFX-relate telltales, for instance), the _size_ of that wound (it was 12 BODY after defenses) would IMO not be Obvious.  Whether that 12 BODY wound actually killed the target would not be obvious because while it is arguable about the Obviousness of how much damage an Obvious power inflicted, the amount of BODY a target has is not.

Aside:  Personally, I find IPE on defenses very hard to justify in terms of stating the effect of an attack power to the attacker.  "I hit him until he's a red paste on the ground" - "Well, he's a red paste on the ground, but he get up again"...  0.o

  10. Thanks for all the discussion (which I am sure will likely continue ;) ).  To clarify a little, my main goal was to understand if specifying a clearly noticeable and distinctly separate SFX for being under the influence of my own Aid (before using any boosted power) was worth a Limitation, or if that was how the power was supposed to be defined by default.

I have an electrical SFX brick/blaster.  Lightning Bolts and Ball Lightning.  One power I was considering was a "power up" (i.e., Aid to some of my powers).  I was wondering if, after the Aid is used and while the Aid points persisted, should he have an aura of "zap/crackle" sparks popping off - which is not present for any of his other powers.  From the RAW provided by Durzan Malakim, it would indeed appear to me that this should be the case, and is not a Limitation.

    YMMV.  :)

  11. While the use of the Aid power is visible, is the effect of that power also visible?  If I Aid someone's power, is there any visible indicator that that character is under the beneficial effect of that Aid?

If the Aid-ed points themselves don't come with any visibility, what kind and value of a Limitation would it be to make them visible?

  12. Thanks HM!  I knew I was forgetting something - to look under the Framework rules.  I thought there was rules against what I was thinking, but I couldn't find it in the section on Adjustment Powers, or on Aid itself.

Now for a follow-up question.  How big of a Limitation on the Aid would it be if, when any boosted slot in the Multipower in question is used, all of the Aid-ed points fade immediately (i.e., the 'boost' is a one-shot increase)?

  13. Hello all, been away for a long time.  Also gotten a little rusty in my Hero-Fu, so I thought I'd ask here.  These questions are specifically for 6E.

    1. Can a Multipower with an AID slot boost the whole Multipower (a -0 Limitation on the Aid to prevent it from being also boosted will also be added)?  If so, what advantages do I need?  (The -0 Limitation is my idea to forestall any accusations of a munchkiny build.)

    2. If I boost the entire (except for the AID slot) framework, will switching away from a boosted slot *to* another boosted slot still cause the first slot to drop its boost?

Please provide page references so I can brush up!  Thanks in advance.  :)

  14. Hello,

I thought I'd give this place a visit again, and give a summary of my 2014 year:

    * Lost a 9-year coworker and friend in Feb. when he attempted to kill his ex-wife and then committed suicide.

    * Lost my last uncle (and my mother's last sibling) to natural causes in March.

    * Lost a friend (and good GM) to heart attack and resulting brain damage.  Alive, but very little is left.

    * Lost my mother in May when my father had an episode of dementia and strangled her to death barehanded.

    * Lost my father (see above).  Alive, but mentally fading, and incarcerated.

    * Found out my oldest sister has lymphoma in August

    * Found out my middle sister's husband has cancer in August.

    * Helped my sisters clean up/out our parent's home.

I can safely say that 2014 is the worst year of my life.  I have always been an advocate for "fighting the good fight", but I think I'm beginning to comprehend what can drive a person to do something... rash.

On the upside, I've found that I have a fairly good ability to hold my liquor.

    I hope other's fared better.

Oh, and I got let go from work yesterday.  Apparently, being human and suffering from insomnia from the above isn't tolerated.
