The colonization in this case is obviously based on the early North American frontier. There's no if, but or maybe about it.

A whole bunch of Howard's Conan stories were basically stories from other genres worked over lightly - pirates, Crusaders, colonial adventures of various sorts (Africa, the northwest frontier of British India...).

It's remarkable that he didn't manage to write Conan the Cowboy.

Howard kind of did in several of his Westerns, save for the Breckenridge Elkins stories which were deliberately broadly comic. Or at least he wrote characters who were as amoral yet honorable in their way as Conan.

There are also the El Borak stories, in which a gunfighter from Texas ends up in Afghanistan somewhere around the time of the First World War (which is depicted like something from a Kipling story, only with more people getting their heads lopped off) and gets into all sorts of blood-soaked adventures.

Not really here.  Political thread if you think it has political overtones;  this doesn't appear to have those.  Extra! Extra! for general stories like this...like the man who stole the forklift and deliberately ran over a woman in the process.  This thread's for cases when we can say "how can someone be so STUPID as to do THAT?" or the like.  This case, from what I've read...simple google search brought it up...appears to be bullying...nothing more, altho that in no way is intended to be dismissive.  The girl who struck the kid has been ID'd, arrested, and charged with FELONY assault...so it's no joke.

I just did edit/remove it, my apologies for taking this long.

The falsehood there is at the end of the statement.  Some people DO care...a very great deal.

I get what you're saying, tho.  I try to avoid those people, but it's not always possible.

I meant 'some people' in the sense of 'I don't get some people'. It's worse here as I thought I knew them.

Only if he wrote everything out in Latin, and used Roman numerals.

The git better HOPE he gets out of the country before they catch him.  I suspect the sentence will lean to the max;  the Italians take their monuments very, very seriously.

Agreed, though elsewhere I've seen some people sniffing over 'five years just for writing a pair of names on some old stone wall nobody cares about anyway'. Some people.

Tiger's inspired me to look at a bunch of old characters from Creatures of the Night, Ultimate Supermage and Supermage Bestiary. I hope not just to transcribe them into 6e but maybe refine the concepts a bit. Certainly add "Story Seeds" for each character or group -- it forces me to think beyond one role or story for each character. Several are already complete, or nearly sp. When I have enough revised characters, I'll pitch the project to Jason Walters.

Thanks for lighting a fire under me, tiger!

This is great news! I'm already looking forward to what you do with them.

Just as I'm looking forward to seeing whatever organizations Tiger reworks for 6th Ed.

I'd like to keep Hunter's Moon for myself, please. I do have a list of possible smaller projects reworking/updating old material; one of them has the working title Mystic Enemies: Cults. I figure, Hunter's Moon, Vril Society and Shadowfire's black lotus cult. Ouroboros could be expanded into a supplement of its own. They'd be less work than the "Shared Origins" series, which is a not-insignificant consideration. Especially if I follow Steve Long's lead in his Martial Enemies series and don't attempt character illos, 'cause I am not an artist.

But I've also wondered if there would even be a market. I've been here for years, and it's not as if I've been besieged with requests to learn more about any of these groups. There could be. For instance, it transpired in my campaign that Shadowfire does not lead the world's only cult of Darkness. The connection did not appear in play, but it's there. Shadowfire either did not know the connection, or he ignored it. But the Black Bodhisattva is not ignoring him.

    Dean Shomshak

Mr. Shomshak, I can only say that I remember all of those groups, as well as your writing for Hero Games from 4th edition on, and I would love to see more information of any or all of those groups. Especially the Hunter's Moon and Ouroboros. Even the related Dragon cults mentioned in the 5th Ed. Mystic World like the Sons of Kingu and the Bone Children would be something I'd buy.

Have you considered the time frame in which you want to set Red Doom? Because with history as part of the Soviet Union, today they'd be... well, as old as many of us here.  :(

Now I imagine a pair of geriatric superhumans, one American and one an old-school Communist, trying to have one last battle to settle it all, as their kids frantically try to stop them from killing themselves.

(But considering the nature of the thread, I must also remind people that these products are not official parts of the CU. Easy to integrate, but not official.)

    Dean Shomshak

They're still great pieces of writing. I love all three. Thanks for creating them.

Let's see, Super Agents introduced a few which weren't carried over to 5E or 6E: RAVEN, Starguard International, Near Space Defense. Raven was modified (including dropping the all-caps) for Justice, Not Law for Dark Champions 4E. Special American Tactics (SAT) was introduced in the old Deathstroke module, elaborated in Super Agents, and redefined and updated to 4E in Hero System Almanac II.  Dean Shomshak came up with some interesting supernatural orgs: Ouroboros and the Vril Society in The Ultimate Super Mage, and Hunters Moon in The Super Mage Bestiary. Ouroboros also got a dedicated villain team, "The Chosen of Abraxas," in Digital Hero #4.

Details for any of the above available upon request. I'll see what else I can think of. :)

I'd like to see all of those groups get written up for 6th Ed.

Humm...Darkon would be a good issue to put stats for both Blonde Bombshell and Professor Pomegranate, both who never had stats written up for.

Then again it wouldn't actually be a Forgotten Enemies then, would it.

Sparkler. Considering the entire everything happening in Mexico and South America, and especially Mexico, you can do a lot with her. You can do a section about using her in a more political way, or a more standard way.

I'd like seeing write-ups for any and all of them.

If we do the entire "everything Timemaster" issue, here would be how I do it.

    Original Classic Enimies Timemaster.

Timemonster: a version of Timemaster who got overwhelmed by tempral power and now is a time traveling being of temporal power, doing things like sending Bulletproof into the future.

The Crono Kaiser: Self proclaimed ruler of the time stream. Very high powered. Not necessarily pure evil, but places himself and his existence above everyone and everything.

Time Guardian: Thinks himself a tempral vigilante. The closest we would come for Timemaster being a superhero.

These all sound like great ideas to me.

  12. I've seen the 'Universe Bundles' being sold in the site store for about $10, with for instance the Universe History Bundle containing Champions Universe, Champions Universe: News of the World, and Champions Worldwide. Just so I'm clear, does this mean the actual game stats/PDF of the original 5th Ed books are included, or is it something more basic?

To be extra sure: I'm referring to the sets like this:

    Thanks for any help.

    *cough*  "I have coronavirus!"

*punch*  "I have anger control issues."

One friend of mine told me that was exactly what he was going to do if it happened to him. Knowing him I believe it. This is a guy who once faced down and faked out a pair of Mafia enforcers who wanted to teach him a lesson in manners long enough for him to get out of the country.

Under the current circumstances, maybe we should bring back some public flogging for those idiots.

Though, given the kind of people they are, I worry they might enjoy that.

I've heard of a few cases where some teens "pranked" people by coughing on them and yelling, "I have coronavirus! -- Just kidding, hah!" I was also told that in several of these cases the teen was beaten up. And a few others have been arrested. Apparently deliberately coughing/spitting/sneezing on someone right now, even if you're just pretending to have the virus, is seen by the FBI as a potential terrorist act.

This is like the people who got caught licking food at the grocery store and putting it back.

"We're infected and giving it to other people"

    CES

More or less locally (Pennsylvania Coal Region) we had at least one woman go through a supermarket deliberately sneezing and coughing on the food while yelling 'I have the coronavirus!' to the tune of destroying $35,000 worth of groceries. When the cops came she laughed and said she was lying about the coronavirus. They arrested her anyway.

  16. Thanks to everyone who answered my question here. I'll have to come back later when I have more time to read through these properly. I was also blanking on some of the original power write-up -- I was thinking of it as 'he catches fire and can burn people while it lasts' not that he can melt bullets. Though you'd think that if he got hot enough to melt bullets before they touched his skin, touching or being touched by him would be painful.

  17. I have another oddball superpower design question.

I just got Mister Watts' Golden Age Champion book, and in checking out the time-lost characters he mentions in it I found this guy, the Man o' Metal. I'd like to try doing a power like his 'metal skin that bursts into flames whenever hit by fire or electricity'. I'm mainly using 5th edition rules here.

I'm guessing that one power advantage it would need is Trigger, since he apparently can't activate it on his own but has to get zapped with fire or electricity first. And of course Damage Shield. If anyone has any other ideas for how to model it I'd like to hear them.

    Thanks everyone.

    Couple of questions:

Can I snag those colorized images, and if so, to whom do I credit the colorizations?

If you want to use them go right ahead, but I cannot for the life of me remember where the images came from.
