    Would that be a house rule? Does the book have anything to say on what happens to entangles that miss?
  3. I just finished a character recently who is a street-level vigilante/detective type. Or in two words: Batman Clone. Roy Paul chose a spider as his symbol and became The Brown Recluse, or Recluse. His backstory involves his Uncle having his parents murdered for the family fortune. The Uncle was jealous because he had squandered his inheritance while his brother built an industrial empire with his. The job was bungled and Roy was left alive. The Uncle, not wanting to raise suspicion, was forced to raise Roy and most of the fortune was placed in trust out of his reach. When Roy turned 18, his uncle made his play, and hired some thugs to stage a kidnapping and murder Roy. Roy sat in a basement for a couple of days awaiting his fate. He watched a spider building a web and imagined himself as an insect caught in a web, waiting to be drained. He overheard his kidnappers talking about killing him and he became even more despaired. Then he heard his Uncle's voice just before the door swung open. His Uncle shot him three times and then killed the kidnappers. Either by sheer force of will or some twist of fate, Roy regained consciousness. Climbing the stairs out of the basement was an epic struggle. He fell and climbed them several times before collapsing at the bottom of them. He sobbed and resigned himself to death. Then he saw the spider and started to imagine his Uncle as a big, fat spider draining first his parents and then him. He got angry and started up the stairs again. Repeating to himself, first in a whisper and finally in a defiant roar, "I am the spider." And just before he lost consciousness, he said, "and my Uncle is the bug." Ten years of intense training later, he returned.
  4. I posted this in the Champions Board but thought I'd ask here too. How would you build a web power that is more like a spider's web than Spider-Man's webs. Trigger? Time Delay? I went with 5d6 entangle, personal immunity, trigger, sticky, cumulative, and area of effect (hex). I was thinking about maybe invisible too, like the silk is too fine to see so you walk right into it.

  6. I'd go with the EB and keep it simple. If the player wants a more flexible interpretation of ectoplasm, maybe a multipower with different uses of the ectoplasm. 50 pt multipower slot 1 EB slot 2 TK slot 3 Entangle yadda yadda
  7. Then the PDF is a good thing for you, it's like five pages or something with a brief over view of the system. And when Sidekick comes out, grab it.
  8. A lot of mature reader titles handle super powers in a realistically violent way. The new Squadron Supreme mini had the Batman rip off (Nighthawk? I think) ripping some dude's ears off and he isn't even super powered. So maybe GURPS is the "mature reader" super RPG. I like Hero better anyway. The one GURPS game I played in was a little confusing and could have easily been played with HERO rules.
  9. I did a pretty detailed hand out for my latest campaign. I was playing with all new people, none of whom were familar with HERO. So I started with the front page to the local newspaper. With plot leads a cover story about a new crop of heroes starting to pop up around town. Then I put in a Map of the city with descriptions of all the neighborhoods so the place would feel real. I put in character generation rules and the PDF intro to the Hero System. I think I may have gone a little overboard, one of my friends said it looked like homework. I got the chance to playtest the Sidekick book and I fully intend to purchase it and use it as a teaching tool for new gamers.
  10. Not to mention when each member of team single handedly defeated a super team from the marvel universe. (Generic version of course, but still impressive) Or when Apollo fought the Evil Doctor IN THE SUN. Or when Jenny Sparks killed God. They were just bad, bad people.
  11. You should flesh out your world's mystics first, and introduce the players to some aspect of sorcery so it won't seem like such a startling break from accepted "reality". Maybe the war can start with something completely mundane and directly involve the pcs. Maybe they could move into a new HQ/Apt/House that is secretly some kind of mystical nexus and their renovations call attention to it.
  12. I'd like to run that sort of campaign myself, without so much combat, it could be really tense and cool. PCs going down needing to be rescued by teammates. What combat you had, though short, would be much more interesting.
  13. Seeker I'm new to 5th edition, is there an amusing story to go with Seeker's absence? Or did someone have the revelation that half naked australian ninjas are too cool for Champions and need their own genre book? "Coming in Fall 2005, HALF NAKED AUSTRALIAN NINJA HERO!!!!"

    How would you build a spider power that allowed you to do things like build a web to catch things. Delayed effect? Trigger? I want to see some other ideas for it. Here's what I did: 5d6 entangle, personal immunity, trigger, sticky, cumulative, and area of effect (Hex). Figure the trigger would be walking into the web. Maybe buy it invisible too, like the SFX is the silk is fine, but strong. So you'd walk right into it and get stuck.
  15. Is your black light projector really intended to be v hearing? Thats the default in HD so I assume you just spaced it. Looks good, but did you mention what the C.A.T. stands for?
  16. No, not really, but Jack Hawksmoor once said he'd been "Waiting all day to punch someone in the brains." So someone could infer they enjoy it. It was just a big action series and it was more dynamic to see their fists flying through people's skulls than the standard punch the guy and he falls down. It was a mature reader comic, of course.
  17. I think those write-ups are under powered. The Authority did things that were well beyond standard super hero levels and these write-ups seem to be just average power levels.
  18. (nod) That's a good idea. Are there any super RPGs that do that as a rule?
  19. Anyone ever run or play in something like this? Over the top action (in scope as well as violence) and an almost fascist world view. The heroes of The Authority had no hesitation in "meddling" with normal affairs. They took out unjust dictators, delivered a stern "We'll whoop you, just like everyone else" warning the PUSA, and other crazy stuff.
  20. That's a good one. It's a good book, Bryan Hitch took the Stormwatch series and changed into THe Authority, then Mark Millar had a run and it's been pretty crappy since he finished. Think of it like this I guess: Superman COULD tear a lot of his enemies' heads off. He just restrains himself, these guys do not.
  21. Cap on resistant defenses wouldn't be applicable either. All the hand to hand fighters are pretty much invulnerable. It's like the Justice League, only they tear people's heads off.
  22. Well, option A doesn't work too well. They dismembered the hell out of many, many "Super" people.
  23. In The Authority, several characters are EXTREMELY deadly in hand to hand combat. Caving people's heads in, tearing off limbs, etc. How would you stat this? I guess I'd just do HKAs. But, how would you go about the limbs thing? Maybe use the hit location chart? I think with Midnighter, it's more DC levels in his martial arts than strength. Thoughts?
