  1. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I doubt he cares that much, but none of us rep Steverino often enough. He keeps our hangout open and our hobby available. Rep him well and mightily, you loafers.
  2. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Oh bother - I owned those books a few decades ago. Drat. But thanks for the info. Now - off to the library! and then the paperback exchange.
  3. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... The White Mountains, by John Christopher, 1967 (an old book, sure, but new to me). It clearly is, but does not claim to be, a sequel of sorts to War of the Worlds. The long feared reinvasion occurred, followed by an occupation. Neat book about three boys coming of age by traveling to join the resistance. If it had a sequel I would read it (and maybe it does...) The target age is probably 10-15 or so.

  5. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Wow. We missed some drama while we were gone. Buncha weirdos.
  6. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Well, we're back online at long last. Sunny downtown Montpelier is every bit as beautiful and wonderful as I had imagined. All good so far. Now all I need is an employer in the state.
  7. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Extrapolating. *snicker. snort. chortle. suppress giggling*

  9. Re: Having trouble concentrating the last afternoon before vacation On closer listening, I don't think Freddy Mercury actually sings "I've had my share of fat chicks in my bed, but still I've come through." huh.
  10. Re: A Thread for Random Musings She's a dear friend, but golly she's even more arrogant than I am.
  11. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I was listening to NPR today as I drove north, and I heard Terry Gross interviewing Rob Halford about Judas Priest's new album. Can I be so old that Judas Priest is now on NPR?
  12. Re: Answers & Questions Q: Why is he getting his prostate checked again? A: This petition must be filed in duplicate.
  13. Re: Musings on Random Musings You be nice to yourself. You're the only you you've got, and that's a friend of mine you're disparaging.
  14. Re: Don't be a hater! I think we all pretty much spew randomly here, more or less, without any intention of creating posterity for ourselves in the process. I of course could be wrong. Champsguy has an enviably good friend in you.
  15. Re: Don't be a hater! So, in digital hero there's an article about using superhuman levels of PRE as a kludge for Jedi mind tricks and the like. It's a great idea. I remember participating in the thread where it was originally discussed. I think I remember writing the idea of using PRE/2 as casual PRE, the same way STR/2 is casual STR. It's in the Digital Hero article. That's a good thing. I shared the idea originally because I wanted to share it. I feel pretty darned special having my ideas, or derivatives thereof, or ideas substantially similar to mine, disseminated by DOJ. I think it's really flarging cool. I can't be persueded to think otherwise. My ideas rock! Woohoo! Trying to claim copyright protections for the random spewings on these boards is generally a stupid idea. Sharing ideas willy-nilly and then yelling "copycat!" is likewise childish and feeble. re: C-- and bannination: Sometimes you really do get a second chance to make a bad first impression.
  16. Re: Spider Man Clone How about a squid or octopus? I have a stranded alien law enforcement officer with a distinctly non-human appearance, including 6 tentacles, each one with a pair of eyes on the end. Stretching, entangle (limited range), swinging, 360 degree vision, and a few others related to his alien physiology. Doesn't fit in tights real well, but what the hey. Some whacko with 2 bullwhips? Nah. Back '89, I had a guy with a cybered arms that could shoot out some grapple lines from his palms - good for swinging, an entangle, and a ranged martial grab of sorts - grab someone or something with the cable and real it in. If you add a little cyberware to his head you could justify a danger sense - a sensor suite and a tactical computer with some fuzzy logic to determine probabilities of attack, for example.
  17. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER My mother was an artist, mainly painting with oils, before her death in 1976. I have a few of her paintings. Huge (five foot by five foot), garish, frankly awful abstract things that match nothing and stand out wherever I put them. But they are all I have, so up they stay, saying things to me about her that I can't understand. She was legally blind, which made painting an obvious choice.
  18. Re: Musings on Random Musings Thanks, I think. I have to admit to having a soft spot for the shmoe. I'd like it if he would come clean and take his lumps, to satisfy my urge to understand what would motivate someone to take up such an odd hobby for so long.
  19. Re: A Thread for Random Musings A guy who hasn't posted in 6 months gave me rep last week. Weird.
  20. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Counting coup: On May 3, I came right out and accused Robot King of being Fred Bittick. All but 42 of his posts have since been deleted, (all from a locked thread), and the last time he logged onto the boards was yesterday. hmm... Woot?
  21. Re: Musings on Random Musings While I syampathize with your predicament (and empathize - I'm terrified my book will have no market for similar reasons), I also side with the squirrel (which doesn't happen all the time). Create beauty first, sell it later. Climb one mountain at a time. When I start to worry about getting published, my pen freezes in place.
  22. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Man can I start a thread or what? No one wanted to touch that one. I mean no one. I expected something from the reliables at either end of the political spectrum, but - nuthin'. Que sera sera.
