  2. Re: CHAMPIONS VILLAINS -- What Do *You* Want To See? I hear you have a brilliant, modest art director working on this. If he could keep all of a character's relevant info to a single page, that would be amazing.
  3. Re: Toolkitting for Day after Ragnarok Sounds fun to me, and I've done it before. Nice way to compare the strengths and weaknesses of differing systems in a set environment. As long as they don't conflict you can then pick-and-choose and kit-bash together your own "ideal" system. Day after Ragnarok, eh? Guess no one is playing Thor.
  4. Re: CHAMPIONS VILLAINS -- What Do *You* Want To See? "I would have these impertinent intruders gone from my sight. Release the Grond Troops!"
  5. Re: Help name that superhero group The Hail Marys. Neighborhood Stopwatch. Superhutaree. Band-aids. Security Blanket. The Supercalifragilistic Expedicious.

  7. Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen Buffy's too predicable. What about Willow, Angel or Riley? Or Xander? No Jack Ryan? No Spenser? No Easy Rawlins? No 80-year old Professor Henry Jones? What about Lestat? Pretty easy to stay in whatever genre you choose or cross it up something fierce. I liked RexMundi's novel idea and HooliganX's appointment TV team.
  8. Re: CHAMPIONS VILLAINS -- What Do *You* Want To See? Under the Bio section of villains I would like to see a field of Known Associates, listing some GM-friendly suggestions on who has worked worked together in the past. Little, informal teams-of-the-moment things and such. Who knew Black Star and Lady Blue dated briefly and operated as Black and Blue, before Slick did what Slick does and it all fell apart? Known Antagonists could be fun too, so you could exploit the old comic trope of "enemy of my enemy is my friend." I would be tempted to replace the "team" book with this field of suggested pairings rather than hardcoded lineups. Your work probably needs to match up to the Champions Online and CU lineups though. But just like you nabbed and shifted some members of Terror Inc as new members of Eurostar, a brilliant move IMO, others might benefit from some suggestions and also some idea of what pairings might be explosive. Hey, I once put Foxbat, Wyvern, Leech and Bull(dozer) on the same team and great fun was had.
  9. Re: Simplified Endurance Management? Only worry about END expenditures during the Turn summing greater than the character's REC (or break it down to REC/SPD,) because the post-12 will recoup it all anyway. Your typical 4 SPD and 8 REC hero can run and punch all day, and you only have to keep track of the extraordinary efforts like pushing to jump over lava. Now if you keep the pressure on you do have to keep track of that net loss of END over time because they might not have it in them at a crucial moment. And if they get their bell rung and have to operate on the meager reserves you get back when you get your wits about you again, well, resource management (and scarcity) is the source of drama. IMO, minimizing END in HERO cheats you out of a tool for enhancing tension. Eliminating it entirely, without expending points for 0 END Cost on all your END-using powers, breaks the game.
  10. Re: New Gamers D&D used to crossmarket into things like dear, departed Omni and Games Magazine and also into comics. Anyone else remember the Willingham storyline adverts?
  11. Re: New Gamers Appreciate all the concern about the casualplayer. Not a newb, but it's the thought that counts. I don't think there is an appreciable part of the population that doesn't know what an RPG is anymore, not after MMORPGs. Might find it quaint that no computer is necessary. However I share the concerns that HERO is contenting itself with converts and strays. Seems to have been a conscious choice for HERO to be marketed as the master class of gaming, but that constrains you to recruiting from those that did their journeyman gaming elsewhere. Having been a former store owner, I know the power and profitability of Magical Grandma Money, that poor bewildered shopper with a vague idea of her relative's hobby but wanting to find a gift that will make their eyes light up on opening. PS238 HERO brilliantly fit this need but HERO 6th ain't it by a long shot.
  12. Re: THE HERO SYSTEM BESTIARY: What Do *You* Want To See? This is a must buy.
  13. Re: Yet Again: Please Help Name My Character "My name is casualplayer and I am not smarter than a fifth grader." Just flew out of San Fran yesterday. Boudin sourdough bread, Gallo hard salami, no Rice-a-Roni but I love the stuff. Keep it coming!

  15. Re: Acronyms Personally I call OCV "awk vuh" for short. Doc's a minimalist and simplifier, guys. Whattaya expect?
  16. Re: Duplication vs Multiform... If the character can act and perceive in two places at once, then it's Duplication. If he can't do both in two places at once, then it is not. A body just lying insensate on a gurney while your mind is in a robot body is not an advantage or a Power for the meat left behind. There are a hundred different ways to do this. Want another? TK and Clairsentience, through a Physical Manifestation to represent the robobody. Any weapons or gizmos bought Indirect to represent that the Power source is the robobody rather than the character. TK lets you do STR effects, Clairsentience lets you be aware of your locale wherever your robobody might be and if the Physical Manifestation is destroyed you just fire up another and send them back into the fight.
  17. Re: Acronyms So you find OCV offensive?
  18. Re: THE HERO SYSTEM BESTIARY: What Do *You* Want To See? The Bestiary is reference for antagonists, Followers and Multiforms and needs to be written and composed keeping all of those in mind. It can't just be a GM's book and sell well; it has to have player appeal.

  21. Re: Female Master Villains What if all this time Rakshasa was actually female? That's a level of commitment and duplicity that you would want in a master villainess.
  22. Re: 4th-6th VPP Question Aside from grinding the game to a screeching halt if the points are allocated on the fly, what's the big deal about allowing MPs to be purchased using VPPs? Since the OP said he would be shopping Gadgets & Gears for the most part, what does it matter if he half-phase whips up a 70 pt MP gun with 5 fixed slots accounting for 105 points of his Pool and can now shift functionality within the MP without necessarily incurring a half-phase investment? This is being asked to the whole thread, not just you Chimera12.

  24. Re: THE HERO SYSTEM BESTIARY: What Do *You* Want To See? Can we get a pronunciation guide so I, and others, don't say Asian beasties' names like a gaijin? Or Celtic names like someone with an inadequate amount of phlegm?
