  1. Re: I'm in the market for a house.... Ask the GM if you can buy the 'secret and cool' parts of the base, and have a normal building 'attached'. After all, I live in a 1 bedroom apt, and its 740 sq ft. krieghandt
  2. Re: Negative stats? Actually, buying a horror creature with -body, then turning it loose on the party. Hmmmmmmm. Every time it was stunned it would appear dead, until the stun was recovered. Now, stun would need to be replenshied by an outside party, giving the party 2 ways to stop it. Yep, meets the horror requirement, stoppable, but uneffected by normal means. Krieghandt
  3. Re: Need a name for a new Talent No one fires a bow unless they're cold. It takes about a second to draw and loose a quick shot. Getting the arrow onto the string while dodging is the hard part. The other problem is hit location, your basically are hiding behind your left arm and hand. That makes it the easiest to hit body part. And parrying with your bow is BAD. The quote is " a drawn bow is 9 tenths broken". Add a cut or crushed fibers and it comes apart in your hands with a bang (seen it, quite "exciting"). So it shouldnt be ruled "illegal" to fight with a bow in HtH, but the GM should explain the results in graphic detail. Most players arent going to sacrifice their fave bow or left arm to get full DCV. So 3 points for dodging seems reasonable, since its mainly against other ranged weapons. (you could also add a segment of time to it, like a haymaker, to repersent getting the arrow onto the string)
  4. Re: Luck System: Whimsy Cards Torg cards for teh win
  5. Re: Monte Cook's Arcana Evolved The Trolls in Tauran in my campaign are the forefathers of Giants in his world. His world begans when the Trolls leave Tauran, and return to defeat Tarath. Changes his history somewhat, but hey, its my campaign Krieghandt

  7. Re: Chainmail Bikini Effects Nothing funnier than chainmail sunburn. Well, to those not sunburned. Krieghandt
  8. Re: Buying up Char in FH Actually, if you want a Herc character, but want to buy skills first, AND can justify the increased stats, then I call that part of the creation process. But I didnt add that above, as its more GM caveat then not. An example would be a severly injured warrior begining the game. His str and con will go up with xp, as he heals "long term". But not his dex, pre, ego, etc. The penalty is to keep mister theif from buying 25 str after he sees what the warrior can do with a 2-h sword. And I hadnt thought of the Sampson angle, thats pretty good. Krieghandt
  9. Re: Buying up Char in FH I like to do an aggresive char cost after creation, +1 penalty per point, accumulative. ie, character starts with a 12 str. to raise to 13 it would cost 2 pts, 14 3pts, 15 4pts. I also double the cost after the penalty is added, for NCM. So our hero above would be paying 20 pts for his 20 str, or 53 total pts for a str of 20. I think if you think EGO is to expensive, just drop the price from 10 - 20 to 1 cp, then 3 cp after 20. Krieghandt
  10. Re: A new look at shields I find weilding a properly balanced (key word there) sheild to be less tiring than swinging a weapon. Center grip sheilds are harder on the lower arm and biceps, but with pratice arent that bad. I wouldnt want to weild the ancient greek sheilds tho. One thing no one mentions, is the majority of fighting manuals use the sheild as a bashing weapon. This may also be another reason for metal rim linings. Bucklers are especially used in this manner. To resolve the DCV/PD issue, I rebuilt the to hit tables. The ones in the book are for shooting someone, not trying to get around a sheild. But having 5 or 6 to hit tables is getting awfully close to "ChartMaster". Krieghandt
  11. Re: Heroes of the Turakian Age You mean we'll have to guess what the evil minded GM has planned too? COOOL
  12. Re: Heroes of the Turakian Age since I cant play my game at the moment, I vote for Spoilers Spoilers Spoilers
  13. Re: Campaign/World Building Help If you can find a copy of Aria's Worldbuilder, that has an awesome system for building everything from counties to full empires. Secret is to "read between the lines" and only roll for stats you dont care about. Good luck finding it tho (Last Unicorn Games was the publisher) Krieghandt
  14. Re: Stat Inflation One system I havent seen listed is the one I use. Characters cant always afford the stats they need at creation, so they suffer from "battle wounds" (str and con loss) or such, until they can buy up their stats, and find the needed healer/trainer to help them. After they hit their concept in a stat, I charge +1 pt for each increase, accumaltive. ie, dex 15 -16 is 4 pts, 16 - 17 is 5 pts, and I double the total cost at 20+. You can expect some increase in your players stats, but your academy mage wont be passing Conan in the str department any time soon. Nor will you need to be "the bad guy"; if your mage wants to be as strong as Ahnold, he'll pay through the nose to do it. Krieghandt
  15. Re: Master List of Distinctive Features Has to do with horse riding. After a long hard ride, you are supposed to do a cool down and then groom the horse till dry. If you dont, it'll cramp, be irratable, etc. Krieghandt
  16. Re: Turakian Age: Why should I buy it? Actually, I dont care for the multitude of add ons, as it simply clutters up what I want to do. I like TA, but I'm adding in some of Monte Cooks Arcana Unearthed material ( Trolls will become Monte's giants after the main crisis). The best part is you can remove entire races without to much effort, and play vs. race x campaigns, including having the humans as the bad guys. It does take some work to choose the campaign area, and get it ready for play, but it will be the way you like it when your done, not the way somebody at a game company thought it should be. Krieghandt
  17. Re: Superleap UAA??? You could make it weaker, by saying str cancels out UAA movement char pt vs base power pt. Thus it would take 2 str to hold on with 1" flight and 20 with 20" flight. I would also cancel damage the same way.
  18. Re: Fantasy coinage The reason for the Secret Service IS counterfitting. Ever hear the quote "queer as a $3 bill"? During and after the Civil War, there was so much funny money, that it actually devalued the American currency. With our present neo-fiat money, knowing someone is actively removing the bogus bills keeps the confidence in the money high. Of course, if you remeber the late 70's, the problem of a goverment over printing money will be clear. Krieghandt
  19. Re: Turakian Age with no Kal Turak I plan to run TA with my own magic system (VPP based) and leave Turak a scheming workaholic the first go around, then after he dies and comes back, make him the BBEG. Since a group of trolls will have migrated off continent, this leads to a Monte Cook alternate history, with trolls taking the place of giants. Krieghandt
  20. Re: Ambidexterity and two-weapon fighting. You missing one of the more powerful effects of hth combat with 2 weapons, the sweep (bind) and attack. Bind the opponents weapon(s), and strike him. Or block and strike. or disarm and strike. or grab and strike. I dont have Fred with me, but if thats "not allowed", then the house rule would be, 2 WF allows 2 weapon/hand manuvers, sweep only allows a pair of attacks. Dont forget, the 2WF removes the offhand penalty, so that bind/block/disarm is going to be effective. And with a 1/2 DCV, your players are going to need some OCV based defenses. But I wouldnt allow a MA without a WF: 2 WF, and then it would be just the MA, no sweep or second attack. As to defend the penalty in the original argument, in real life, most people have an attack hand and a defense hand, and when they are forced off hand, theire skill does go down noticably. Krieghandt
  21. Re: Campaign Speculation: please read, comment Personally, I wouldnt bother with killing communications. Messages dont interfere with production quotas. Losing workers does. And having immigrants upsets the usage stats. So the AI arent "Evil", just keeping things tidy. Remeber, well fed populations dont go for all out revolt, they just want something "better". And being squished by crab like spiders on Mars is definitly not better. So your rebels will be small in numbers, and odd in thought, being repressed by "properly concerned" upper management, out to protect the masses (and their cushey jobs), with full control of the propaganda machines. Skysheild would be a few large sattelites with a myriad of small, even miniture sattelites covering the near to far orbits.
  22. Re: The great armour race... One thing I havent seen mentioned, that works well against armored folks, especially in martial art campaigns, is grappling. Amor isnt renown for keeping shoulder joints in place when they are being twisted. And all those pt spent on combat defense are wasted. And definitly use LTEs. By the by, the new armor encumberance rules are about right for reality. It isnt that hard to wear the stuff. Even in 106 degree heat. Krieghandt (of Pheonix AZ)
