  1. Re: "Grond smash!" and other Grond plots Grond clones There are several Grond sightings around the city - all at the same time! All the city's hero groups and individual heroes are called in by the mayor. The vast majority of these Gronds are sub-intelligent, non-speaking and somewhat weaker than the real thing. Only two of the Gronds stand out. One is Grond who is both angry at the imposters and curious as to what is going on. The other is a relatively intelligent faux Grond that beseeches the PCs to help him. He states there is a timed self-destruct device inbedded in him and he needs it surgically removed. Will the PCs take him to a hospital to assist? If so, the doctors find several other things wrong and keep him under observation (he will then be fine in a few days). All the other faux Gronds end up dying, freaking out the real Grond, who the heroes must calm down. Now, the big question: Would you as a GM allow a player to introduce his PC, being a Grond clone, this way if he used only a 350 point version? This is a modification of a Grond plot seed from CKC, p.154. Telios produces Grond clones from captured tissue; alteration is that one is a success that becomes a player character.
  2. Re: Mister Magnum for review Umm... umm.... Umm... yeah, *might* may a DC character... maybe try there? I had to look over the character several times, all the "**"s kept running together and made no sense other than a distraction; however, the two areas I could concentrate on somewhat were the Multipower gun and the Skills area. For the multipower, don't you think you did overkill on the RKAs? (No pun intended.) I mean, you have FIVE RKAs that are pretty much the same. Maybe you could save points if you just gave it a Variable Advantage (p.178 5E HERO System)? Also, you paid for one gun/weapon, but gave your character Two Weapon Fighting. You'd either need to buy another weapon just like the first, or save the TWF points for something else (unless 5E allows for that). For the skills, other than everyman, you only have one noncombative skill, streetwise. Also, you took the Weapons Familiarty for your "gunjiutsu" (?)martial arts with Handguns and Submachine guns, but your MA looks like a HTH style. I would get rid of those to give you a couple of extra points. If you offered this character in *my* DC campaign, I would defintely make you change these aspects. You character seems designed soley for a quick kill and nothing else. (Of course, it's not my campaign.) Also -and this is just my opinion- since you didn't create any disadvantages yet, to me it doesn't seem like you've put thought into any depth of the character, only that you wanted a killer. Finally, you have next to no defenses! Despite your 13 DCV, you're going to get hit. One decent energy blast and you'll be stunned, one decent killing attack and you'll be dying. My suggestions: 1) Get rid of all the asterisks; 2) rewrite your weapon; 3) spend points on noncombat skills (maybe contacts too), COM, and STUN, 4) get some armor (save points on OIF, Activation), and then 5) Resubmit your idea in the Dark Champions genre; they'll be able to help more than me.
  3. Re: Title for the next HERO villains book Too true, though you'd have to change the punctuation. Maybe either: Why be normal. (Basically, an explanation.) OR Why? Be normal!
  4. Re: from little plot seeds, mighty games do grow: Share you ideas! I like this. Question, though, would you run your PCs with this as a chance to help out, or would you have your players play the Champions while you played the Challengers? I figure if you did the latter, you could always include an aside in your game when the even takes place. (I say this because I used to have my old roommate run NPC heroes while I ran the villains. This way, I wouldn't bias the outcome with what I'd *think* would happen. Instead, I'd have a scenario [or two, or three] that I could use until I got a result I thought went best with the campaign.)
  5. Re: Grond Ooh, very nice! I didn't notice Evelyn in either CE or CKC, did you make her up, or was she written somewhere else? Either way, I like it a lot. Maybe the PCs catch up as Grond is scaling a building. Sort of the King Kong nostalgia (King Grond!). On a side note, I was just watching LotR:Return of the King with the subtitles on and noticed the orcs chanting "Grond!" as they moved the battering ram towards Minis Tirith. It turns out the battering ram was named after Grond, Hammer of the Underworld. I looked back in the book and there's about five paragraphs dedicated to this. Very cool!
  6. Re: Title for the next HERO villains book Why Be Normals? (Come on, Bob, you should have thought of this one!) Average Citizens Filing for Dependents Hmm, let's see. Back to villain acronyms. Federations, Organizations, Enemies (Maybe add Sociophaths?)
  7. Re: Title for the next HERO villains book CIRCLE Creepy Independent Raiders Constantly Looking for Excuses
  8. Re: Title for the next HERO villains book Enemies for Rehire Not only would this link Enemies for Hire back to the new CU, but you could do a lot of lower powered villains with small write-ups instead of villains that have two or more pages of history. Just a thought.
  9. Re: Title for the next HERO villains book Ooh, very naughty! Or a book on dependents: Kindred Imbeciles Declare Dumb Occupations Moms And Dads, DNPCs (MADD) Ladies And Useless Guy Helpers
  10. Re: Title for the next HERO villains book Once the alliterations are done, how about some acronyms? Hmm, I've already done a mediocre BAD, and then joking EVIL and MORE, (post 30), but let's see: Boogeymen, Aliens, and Demons = B.A.D. Villains in Leagues Extraordinaire = V.I.L.E. Okay, maybe more later.

  13. Hello all, I was wondering if anyone could help with some Grond plots. There are some great ideas on the from little plot seeds, mighty games do grow: Share you ideas! thread, which I've added here. But let me know if you have some other originals or if you have some that are related or follow-ups to those posted here. (I'm stating who wrote the plot and their post, but summing up their full post.) Enforcer84 (post 12) Grond controlled by grey collar; Foxbat intervenes; stop Grond save Foxbat. Grond and Giganto battle over the right to be the most powerful being on the planet. Lord Liaden (post 88) In isolated forest, Grond rampages lumber company; heroes intervene, discover Grond protecting legendary Sasquatch; what will the heroes do? Rerednaw (post 109) Binder recruiting fresh blood; Grond applies Zakueins (post 119) Menton controlling Grond accidentally releases Grond's super-intellect (30+) gets ko'd. Grond shows up with 'brick' gand robbing banks intelligently Twilight (post 120) (follow up to 119) Grond wearing 1930's gangster outfit w/cigar & fedora "Grond smash, schee" Tech (post 139) Rich kid gets caught cheating on art-contest; encounters Grond who wants place to stay; trade-off to help kid get back in contest Death Tribble (post 182) Grond vs Ripper; WWE anyone? Death Tribble (post 194) Grond smashes L.A. premiere of "The Hulk" movie; there's only one green-skinned Goliath! Kirby (hey, that's me! post 228) Grond rampage; stops for Ho-Ho's, Twinkies, etc. Eventually, Foxbat hears of this and tries to coerce Grond into crimes Kirby (post 238) (follow up to post 88) Grond *is* a lumberjack Grond sighting in downtown; heroes discover Grond is actually a construction worker. Kirby (post 239) (alteration of post 139) cheating kid meets Grond; Grond wants to learn art; kid 'sicks' Grond on teacher, but teacher teaches Grond art Kirby (post 240) (follow up to post 194) After incident, Grond hired by Hollywood if PC's escort Grond do community service. An idea I was just thinking of was the PCs vacationing in Hawaii or tropical Island somewhere. While on the beach, lifeguard blows whistle and points to the ocean. Grond is swimming in. He wanted to get away from the discomforts of North America. If anyone else has Grond plots, especially ones you may have used (and how they turned out -good & bad) I would appreciate it.
  14. Hello all, I just picked up CKC and started reading through it. I was very shocked/disappointed with the Eurostar revision (omission?) Did I miss something, or were both White Flame and Pantera omitted from Eurostar history? Was this accidental, a legal issue, or are they mentioned elsewhere? I noticed that Ultrasonique was Le Sone renamed. Man, Pantera was the only member I didn't mind thrashing my character (strange, isn't it?). I guess I'm okay with Scorpia and Feuermacher being in, but what happened to Giganto? I'm not the only one that thinks Gravitar's story just doesn't go well with Master Villain, am I? Her powers don't even seem to represent gravity other than their special effects. Her write-up says she's not a wanton killer, yet she has three killing attacks. Even her plot seeds don't seem that "realistic." I don't know, but to me, Deadweight from Enemies of San Angelo is a much better gravity villain. Also, do we have to keep having the Ultimates? (Great, I'm ranting.) Some I can like as individuals, but I don't care for the team as a whole. And I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority here, but do we need Istvatha V'han and Takofanes? The first is a low-point (surprise there, actually) dimensional conquerer. Why do dimensional conquerors always have a hard time here? And why always Earth? Why don't they start on the moon or another alien planet? Takofanes seems to me like this: Here is an uber-villain that you can't possibly destroy, have fun. I much prefer the Crowns of Krim. My eyes really glazed over The Warlord section. To not just be a rant, I liked most of the rest, especially Black Paladin, Bulldozer, Foxbat, Grond, Howler and Ogre. I'm undecided on Esper. And I REALLY liked the plots seeds for the people. I wonder if my next GM will let me be a Grond clone, or a low-level mutant Grond-hybrid. Now, has there been any other villain and hero sourcebooks? There are some I'm looking for, especially VOICE, Seven Horsemen, Protectors, Freedom Squad, Dr. Wu, etc. (The only other books I have for 5E are: Hero Sys 5E, VIPER, and Champions Battlegrounds.) Thanks for your time.
  15. Re: The Uplifted:Sentient Animal villians 20 Distinctive Features: A monkey (Not Concealable; Always Noticed and Causes Major Reaction; Detectable By Commonly-Used Senses) 10 Physical Limitation: Small (Frequently; Slightly Impairing) 15 Social Limitation: Secret ID Kara Soren (Frequently; Major) Your monkey has a Secret ID? All most of all them died in agony.... Do you mean "Almost all of them...?" Hmm... too crazy for my games; however, if you did Ape in a Cape....
  16. Re: Title for the next HERO villains book <--Moi? Nothing! Never! I don't even drink alcohol. (Yea for teetotalers!) Now, I do love puns and corny jokes. Heck, I even e-mailed my wife at school when we were teaching alliteration (i.e. from stem to stern) with my whole e-mail that way. Something like: (Ahem) All animals against alliteration always agree: antagonizing ain't acceptable. Well, something like that; it was much longer. Now palindromes.... A man, a plan, a canal. Panama. Drowsy sword. Drow sword. Amy, must I jujitsu my ma?
  17. Re: Title for the next HERO villains book I think you're on to something here. Maybe Wizards, Warlocks and Witches? Warlocks, Wizards and Werebeasts? Werebeasts, Therebeasts, Freaks? (WTF?)
  18. Re: Title for the next HERO villains book How about Bandits, Assassins and DEMON: B.A.D. ? Joking names: Entire Villains in League: EVIL Megalomaniacs Ostracized Rightfully Elaborate: MORE
  19. Hello all, I'm new to the 5E Champions, but I do have a few books (5E, VIPER, and Battlegrounds). I have some questions about the Champions drawn from other posts and the pictures in the Champions Battlegrounds book. Who are the champions now? What I've seen they seem to be: Powered armor: Defender? Raven/Crow/Blackbird/Magpie: Looks like either a detective or sorcerer Flying girl in the halter-top/half shirt w/leather jacket? Alien looking lion guy: Has ridges on forehead and shoulders. Maybe a female that looks like a sorceress: Solitare? Who are these new people and basic make-up? What happened to Seeker, Obsidian, Jaguar, and Quantum (and others if Defender & Solitare aren't in)? Thank you for your time.
  20. Re: That Mechanon fella jest ain't right: a roleplay question
  21. Re: from little plot seeds, mighty games do grow Foxbat When and Where? The heroes are either called to investigate a robbery or come upon one during their nightly patrols. They catch the "tail end" of Foxbat (and crew?) as they are stealing some leading edge technology. Foxbat gets away, laughing that the heroes won't foil in his MASTER PLAN, because once he connects these to the rest of the machine in his secret warehouse, his teleportation device will make him unstoppable. The next night, the heroes go looking and find said secret warehouse. Inside is a large platform with a roof about 7-10 feet up. The heroes break in, Foxbat tells them they're too late and he yells for the teleportation device to be activated. One of the agents does so and in the next instant, poof! Everyone in the warehouse has been transported back in time. Options: (all involving Foxbat to have the design manual tucked away with him) 1. The transporter goes back in time, but no one knows how to set it forward. Not for several adventures, at least. 2. The transporter does NOT go back in time, so the heroes and Foxbat must work together to build a new one, much to Foxbat's dismay. 3. The transporter goes back in time, but when Foxbat goes to fix it, he makes it into an actual teleportation device, to the heroes' chagrin. 4. The warehouse gets transported back in time as well. 5. Once the transporter gets fixed, Foxbat tries to leave the PCs behind. 6. Once the transporter is "fixed," everyone is transported back further in time. 7. The teleportation device does work as well. The heroes & Foxbat (and crew) are not just transported back in time, but to another city, state, country or even continent. Time options: 1. Early 1900's, around the Great War or WW2 era. 2. Late 1800's during industrial revolution (Foxbat could make a fortune!) 3. "Cowboy & Indian" days. Foxbat wants to relive these days, even though tv shows & movies weren't exactly accurate. 4. Caveman days 5. Dinosaur days 6. Ice Age - the heroes & Foxbat (and crew) witness an alien ship crash. Some aliens escape the ship before it is buried by avalanche. Mmm, humans look tasty. 7. Group teleported to Great Wall of China during a Hun or Mongol invasion. 8. Group teleported to the Alamo. 9. Group teleported to the Titanic moments before it hits an iceberg 10. Group teleported somewhere appropriate to a PC's background (say French revolution for a French PC, or Napoleon's invasion of Russia for a Russian PC, etc.) Of course, just because the time machine starts teleporting back to the future, doesn't mean they can make it there in one leap.
  22. Re: The Battle of Detroit...an adventure? Hmm... I would have to go with the thought of not involving your heroes, or at least not directly. I would have it happen while your hereos are elsewhere or battling some other villain (distraction?) or villain group. You can always update them on the news. If they wish to get involved (and if they don't know this is predestined), you could always have them meet up with one of Dr. D's lines of defenses. However, if you are very new into your campaign, or haven't started it yet, you could always enter this as *has already happened.* This is my personal suggestion, and nothing says that you can't have Destroyer try again !
  23. Re: Help with team name Okay, last offer now, really. I mean, five posts in a row, sheesh! What is the team's outlook as far as the law goes? Do they skip over laws that hinder crimefighting, or do they disregard the law completely? If it is the latter and they don't care for image, but you want an Avatar-themed group name, go for Iconoclasts, plural, synonymous with nonconformist, rebel, dissenter, and radical.
  24. Re: Help with team name lol! Well, chess is a thinking game that stimulates the brain. Another game that can be used for the same reason and represents four is Quarto! If you get the fifth though, you're either screwed, or the press jokes that the fifth person is the 'spare.' Which works if one person can't make it!
